Effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum

A hyperemetic mother can vomit between four and twenty (or more) times a day for months. If, starting at six weeks, a particular woman vomits an average of fifteen times a day she will have endured several hundred emetic episodes by twenty weeks. Imagine the discomfort of vomiting that much in such a short span of time! The vomiting can be so frequent that the stomach acid erodes tooth enamel. The emesis itself is often bile-filled and blood tinged (the blood usually comes from small tears in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum), and the cycle is self-perpetuating and relentless. In addition to the excessive vomiting, a severely hyperemetic mother suffers from weight loss, dehydration and metabolic disturbances.

Weight Loss

The nausea and vomiting of HG make it nearly impossible for the mother to eat or drink much, if anything. Obviously, if you don’t eat you lose weight. Again, losing greater than 5% of your total body weight is one clinical indication supporting a diagnosis of severe HG.


Fluid, which makes up around two-thirds of a person’s body weight, is vital, because every single process in our bodies occurs in a fluid medium. Surprisingly, dehydration can cause nausea and vomiting, and that’s the last thing a hyperemetic wants more of. Some symptoms of dehydration are lowered blood pressure, headache, blurred vision and fever.

Electrolyte Imbalance

Electrolytes are chemical compounds that break down into such elements as potassium and salt in the body fluid, and they play a vital role in stabilizing body systems. Severe vomiting can cause electrolyte imbalance, which may manifest as a tingling sensation in the hands and feet, general weakness, decreased reflexes or reaction times and other symptoms.

Carbohydrate Depletion and Ketonuria

Carbohydrates include sugars, starches, and fibers. They are the body’s main source of energy, and if carbohydrate levels are inadequate, a person’s body begins to break down fat for energy and may take energy from muscle and even organs. This can disrupt the nervous system.

The central nervous system refers to the brain and spinal cord and conscious motor activities like walking and talking. The peripheral nervous system involves automated functioning such as the heartbeat and digestion. Your body needs energy to function. Carbohydrate depletion causes weariness with a capital “W”, and it can make a three-step trip to the toilet feel like world travel.

Additionally, when the body must break down fat for energy, this creates substances called ketones, which can make the blood too acidic. If your urine is flooded with ketones it is a sign that you are in a period of starvation.

If you are living with the suffering of HG, don’t let your physicians tell you that you’re not sick but only having a baby. You are sick. HG is not a normal pregnancy experience. However, be encouraged; there is good news!

HG and Pregnancy Outcomes

With so much nausea and vomiting, adequate nutrition is obviously an issue. A good diet and vitamins during pregnancy have been so fanatically drilled into society that many of us incorrectly assume that a woman who eats negligible amounts and hyper-vomits for months is going to have a malformed, severely retarded baby if the little one even survives. Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. The body has a miraculous compensatory ability, and a severely hyperemetic woman with sufficient medical care has as much chance at a successful pregnancy outcome as anyone. In fact, some studies have shown that hyperemetic mothers have a reduced risk of miscarriage[12] and no increased rate of birth defects.[13-14] However, alternative nutrition is often considered in cases involving a total body weight loss of 10% or more, in order to prevent low birth weight and prematurity.[15]

Shortening, Butter or Margarine – What is Best for Baking Cookies?

There is so much controversy about what is best to use for baking cookies. You may find yourself scratching your head trying to figure out this dilemma. Which one is healthier to use than the other? With a little research we can solve this dilemma.

First, what is shortening? It is a semisolid fat and refers to a hydrogenated vegetable oil. There is so much controversy about what is best to use for baking cookies. You may find yourself scratching your head trying to figure out this dilemma.Hydrogenation is a process of bubbling hydrogen through vegetable oil, changing its chemical structure. This process turns the liquid to a solid at room temperature and below. Shortening is 100% fat. Butter and margarine contain 80% fat. Hydrogenation produces trans fats, which are the unhealthy fats known to cause heart disease. The advantage of shortening over butter or margarine is its smoke point (higher temperature before burning). Another advantage is its has a higher melting temperature. During the baking process of cookies it helps dough hold its shape longer. This allows the flour and eggs to set, keeping the dough from spreading too much. There are some new shortening products on the market that contain no trans fats or very little.

Second, what is margarine? Margarine is again made from vegetable oils and contains no cholesterol. Margarine is high the in good fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated), but contains some saturated fats. Some margarine is worse than others. Hydrogenation solidifies the margarine. The harder the margarine the more trans fats it contains. Trans fat raise levels of bad cholesterol and lower the levels of good cholesterols, which makes it worse than saturated fat. Tub margarine is lower in trans fats than stick margarine.

Third, we all know that butter is created from a dairy cow’s milk cream fat. Being that, it is animal fat, which is loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol. Butter and margarine are equal in calories and fat. Each contains about 35 calories and 4 grams of fat per teaspoon. Butter is believed to contain traces of hormones and antibodies fed to the dairy cows. On the bright side butter contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

OK, now that you are confused now more than ever let’s compare. Margarine is better than butter when it comes to our heart, but falls flat in the flavor department. Butter also adds a creamy texture. Shortening helps to keep your cookies from deflating or spreading out, but again it does not enhance the flavor. In fact shortening has no flavor. If you are a fluffy cookie fanatic use half shortening and half butter. You get the raised cookie with the buttery flavor.

Finally, what should you use, salted butter or unsalted butter. Salt in butter acts as a preservative, so butter won’t turn rancid when left out at room temperature. The down side is you are adding extra salt to your recipe. The problem with reducing salt in a recipe to substitute for salted butter is different brands of butter has different salt contents. The rule of thumb is when using salted butter reduce the salt added ½ teaspoon per cup of salted butter. The purist baker will always use unsalted butter. That way they can be in control of the salt being added to the recipe. Salt in butter is also believed to add flavor, overpowering the sweet butter taste, and mask butter odor.

When it comes right down to the decisions between shortening, margarine, salted butter or unsalted butter is a personal preference. But at least with information we can make an informed decision. The best way to decide what is best for you is experiment. Try different ways to bake cookies and have fun. As they say, “The journey is the best part of the trip.”

My Womb Healing

An Introduction to Womb Healings


In the Fourth Spiral of the Womb, the womb accelerates into a deeper physical and biological shift. Awakening is a physical and neurobiological phenomenon, as brain, spine, chakras and organs change their frequency and cellular geometries. The same occurs to a womb. New cells appear and old ones die and transform as new cell configurations and geometries arise; birthing pains, cramps, actual physical expansion of the womb, womb discharges and other phenomenena arise. Chemicals and hormones change their flow, brain patterns change, and your cells start to separate out from each other, revealing more and more space within; a space that allows more love to manifest and be felt.


” I received a call from my doctor saying that they had the results from my last smear test.  They informed me that I had severely pre-cancerous cells at grade 4.  They called this condition discaryotic cells, and the first step in treatment is called a Calposcopy.  Grade 5 is the highest and this means operation immediately!  So grade 4 is taken very seriously, and action must be taken fast if the womb and cervix is to be saved.

My husband and I set out a course of deep and immediate healing. I received a complete overhaul over the next 3 weeks; I was on a mission to save my womb! I changed my diet to 100% organic raw foods, as well as drinking the most highly potent green vegetable juices I have ever tasted! My husband also put me on a detailed course of womb healing which involved womb pulsing, light transmissions, and sexual healing of the 7 Gates.

I received three womb pulses from him, which were painful. He is a big man, and I am a petite woman, and his weight pulsing up and down over my womb caused a re-adjusting of my spine. I have a very curvaceous spine that really is not such a good thing.  His weight and pulsing straightened my spine, but not without me screaming in pain releasing deep memories of being trapped and “held” in a form of prison. This was the first step.

The second step was to receive 3 light transmissions specifically to heal the womb, which wiped me out completely. I did not feel any physical sensations, just an absolute black out; I was gone! These transmissions were designed to clear the womb of any negative cellular activity, and are available to anyone. My husband knew and affirmed to me almost every day that my womb would be healed completely, and that the abnormal activity was a result of the deep openings and healings that my womb was experiencing so rapidly since we met and initiated this deep process on every level.

I also connected with the Arcturians who are a race of beings from the planet Arcturus.  I have worked with them many times before in the past. They are a highly intelligent group of healing energetic surgeons, and have the ability to remove energies deep within the bodymind and soul. I was communing with Lord Arcturius every other day, receiving various light transmissions, sacred geometrical activations, and removal of old cells and energies from within my womb, cervix, lower spine and ovaries. Personally, I was turning my awareness every day into this area, connecting, communing and visualizing a golden light of healing and high frequency cleansing.

Throughout this three-week period I was experiencing such turbulent levels of anger, frustration and resentment. I was furious and wanted to consume the world in my destruction. I felt so over-looked and dis-regarded. I wanted to smash, tear and rip apart all that is unreal and all the hidden agenda’s within people and myself.  In one of my diary entries I wrote that “I wanted to tear off people’s heads and rip apart their ego’s.  Why in a place of such beauty, do I experience such ugliness?”

I was savage, and felt that by feeling this way I had become a waste of a precious life. I was seeing hell in the midst of heaven.  These turbulent emotions were commonplace for me for most of this time. Every time I dropped down into a pit of despair, the very next day I would experience a divine healing wave of gratitude, an unspeakable forgiveness and healing. It was a rapid rollercoaster of intense healing.

All these reactions were what the womb was healing.  My womb had taken all these bodily emotions and mental states, transmuted them, and in the process the biology of my womb had become “abnormal”.  I would imagine that it had indeed!

After these three weeks of intensity, I found a hospital in France where the staff spoke good English, and was admitted to receive a Calposcopy. This was a relatively painless experience, but when the pain was felt, it was deep and emotional. I was torn apart that I had led myself to be in this position. Slices of my cervix were being dissected, with no anaesthetic what so ever.  Being an extremely sensitive soul, I felt the emotions of being neglectful of my sexual relations, irresponsible and impulsive.  In a word I felt sadness, deep and silent sorrow.  Here I was, legs open with a stranger using a light and microscope to look inside my cervix, whilst he gently removed parts of me with a knife.  Every cut brought a wave of remorse and sadness.  My husband sat beside me holding my hand as I sweated and cried. He had the grace to tell me to speak to my womb first and let “her” know what was going to happen, and why.  God bless the doctor, he was a kind and sweet man, and incredibly gentle.  He was so worried that he was hurting me, but no he was not hurting me. I was, and had been.

I was assured that this would not impair my ability to conceive children, and should the worst happen, only parts of my cervix would be removed.  I was in a lucky position as it had been caught early. Sadly, many women can leave it too late between smear tests, and if so, it could result in the cervix and womb being removed if cancerous cells have taken root. I wish this on no woman, as it is so much a part of who we are IF we remember it.

As soon as I left the hospital I cried deeply, as I finally felt all the forgiveness that so desperately needed to be released through me.  I intuitively knew that this situation had been caused because of all the womb work I was doing, as well as the healings that were taking place with my husband whilst making love.

The biopsy went off to the laboratory, and I was assured that in 5-8 days time I would have the results.  8 days later, these results did not come. 2 weeks later I called again and still no results were forthcoming. Finally, 6 weeks later (!) the doctor at the hospital told me that the reason why the results took so long was because my cells were tested again and again. Because I was already at grade 4, it was taken very seriously, and they were expecting to see something … yet they just couldn’t understand why my results kept coming back negative. Grade 0! I was clear and free!

So I am a living testament to the power of the womb.  All of this would not have been possible without my husband, his teachings, Lord Arcturius and of course my most wonderful womb and the sheer power of my soul.  And the same is possible for you, and all women. There is no need to have your womb taken out: it can be healed through natural means, as women throughout the ages have done.’

It has to be said that womb healing is a very physical phenomena. Many occurrences can take place, which can even be detected and confirmed by the medical profession. It is a biological change, as well as a consciousness shift. I noticed that some of these shifts included:

  • Bleeding constantly for two months, and/or irregular menstrual cycles
  • A polyp, or growth inside the yoni / womb
  • pre cancerous cells at dangerous levels
  • actual physical muscular sensation, painful at times, of the organ of my womb and pelvis stretching and expanding open
  • feeling of blocks / old numbness dissolving and actually  being felt whilst making love, and the carving open of spaces within the yoni and womb physically, emotionally and spiritually
  • seeing and experiencing different aspects of my womanly self being found, discovered, excavated and opened
  • random points of sharp, electrical pain in the ovaries as opposed to the deep, dull ache of the womb
  • lower back pain in the space behind the womb opening in deep, throbbing aches
  • increased sensitivity to anyone approaching the womb and wanting something from me
  • sadness at anyone apart from the Beloved touching your most precious, open and innocent space
  • actual contractions from within

All of these can and will happen when the womb opens and ignites: when it becomes alive. It is also a mark of womb consciousness becoming integrated with the soul and bodymind.

Our chakra system has 3 main energy Locks, known as granthis in Sanskrit. These 3 energy locks are found in every human being, and are a key part of yoga and meditation practices. For the Womb is where we give birth from; to ourselves. The womb is the light generator of the body, and the creator of Joy. When they are clear and activated we connect with the full un-bounded expression of life, healing age old wounds in both the male and female consciousness.

What is a Sinus Cyst?

Having a sinus cyst is fairly common. They are present in as many as 10 percent of healthy individuals. Most of sinus cysts are benign. On rare occasions, the cyst may become infected. For some people with cysts, they might not feel any symptoms at all, while others may feel facial pain or difficulty in breathing. Additional symptoms are continuous nose drips, difficulty in breathing and a decline in your sense of smell.

Sinus cysts, or nasal polyps, are soft and pearl-colored growths that develop in the lining of the sinuses. They can form in singles or in multiples that are clustered together. They are usually caused by a prolonged inflammation of the nasal passages. Symptoms of allergies and asthma can also lead to polyp formation.

When polyps are small, they don’t usually cause any problems. People are only alerted of their existence when they start to experience the symptoms.

Some symptoms to watch out for are:

•           Shortness of breath

•           Difficulty in breathing through the nose, leading to mouth breathing

•           Loss or reduced sense of smell

•           Stuffy and runny nose

•           Chronic sinus infection

•           Headaches

•           Snoring

•           Nasal discharge

•           Sensation of fullness in the face

Any condition that causes inflammation of the sinuses puts you at risk of developing a sinus cyst. These conditions include:

– Chronic sinusitis

– Cystic fibrosis

– Allergic fungal sinusitis

If you are sensitive to aspirin or non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, you are also most likely to develop sinus cyst. Age is another factor. Sinus cysts are more likely to show up on people over 40 years old. Children below 16 who exhibit the symptoms of having sinus cyst should be tested for cystic fibrosis.

Treatment and Prevention

To prevent formation of sinus cysts, it is necessary to treat the underlying conditions and manage the symptoms. Here are some guidelines that we can follow:

•           For people who suffer from asthma, allergies or chronic sinusitis, avoid indoor and outdoor allergens to reduce nasal congestion.

•           Treat bacterial infection by undergoing antibiotic treatment.

•           Control allergies through intake of antihistamines.

•           Saline nasal irrigation is extremely helpful in relieving nasal congestion and eliminating mucus.

The most common treatment for sinus cysts is corticosteroids. It is either injected directly onto the polyp or sprayed in the locality to reduce the cysts temporarily. However, side effects include nose bleeds, headaches or sore throat.

Oral corticosteroids can also be prescribed. It is often taken for a few weeks only due to its severe side effects during long term use such as headaches, weight gain, upset stomach, mood changes and difficulty in sleeping.

If medication fails, surgery is also an option. Polypectomy cuts the polyps away using a suction device. Endoscopic surgery removes the polyps and opens the part of sinus where polyps tend to form. Both surgeries are outpatient procedures.

However, the treatment options mentioned do not offer any guarantee that you will be cyst-free. In fact, sinus cysts often return. This is why it is better to focus on prevention instead.

An Untreated Yeast Infection Can Be Dangerous

No one likes to get a yeast infection. But aside from the uncomfortable symptoms you experience, there are more serious dangers that may arise from an untreated yeast infection. So while most yeast infections usually clear up on their own, it may be wise to err on the side of caution and seek proper diagnosis and treatment.

And they’re not just for women! Although much less prevalent, men can also get yeast infections. The treatment is usually similar, too, with topical anti-fungal ointments and creams being the first line of treatment. Despite the fact that these over-the-counter remedies are marketed primarily to women, they are safe and effective for men as well.

If you are asymptomatic or the topical treatment is not effective, antibiotic prescription drugs are also a viable treatment. In addition, information on natural remedies, such as eating yogurt or using boric acid suppositories, is widely available on the internet. However, some of these suggestions may be unsafe, so be sure to research them well before beginning any treatment plan.

But don’t delay in choosing a treatment option! It’s advisable to begin treatment immediately and to continue treatment until you are certain the infection is gone. The longer you wait, the more time the fungus has to spread. Your symptoms may increase in number or intensity. And in the worst case scenario, you may even develop more serious complications if you leave a persistent infection untreated.

For one, allowing the infection to spread will make it more difficult to treat, in the event that the infection does not go away on its own. To put it simply, the more the fungus multiplies, the more there will be to clear up. You may end up needing to take antibiotics, when you could have stopped the infection with a topical cream if you had acted sooner.

If you wait too long, however, even antibiotics will not be able to reverse the complications that could occur. Your general health is compromised when you have an infection because your body must use extra energy to fight it off. This may mean your body will not absorb nutrients as effectively, which in turn further stresses your immune system and leads to even more susceptibility to infection.

In addition, unchecked levels of yeast may irritate the intestines and lead to “leaky gut syndrome, ” in which food particles from the intestine are released into the blood stream. Many complications can arise in this situation. In any instance, having foreign bodies in the bloodstream will cause the liver to work overtime, thus potentially contributing to the development of various liver diseases. It may also lead to the development of sepsis, a blood condition that causes severe swelling in various parts of the body and can be fatal.

So if you have a persistent yeast infection or if they are a frequent occurrence, you should seek treatment as soon as possible. If getting rid of the annoying symptoms isn’t motivation enough, knowing the risk of complications should do it. Don’t gamble on an untreated yeast infection.

Stop Panic Attacks – 3 Practical Strategies

This article will offer three practical strategies to stop panic attacks when they begin. Remember – there is a moment when "normal" levels of worry and stress begin to escalate to something more acute and dangerous. As you notice this escalation beginning, using one (or more) of these techniques to stop panic attacks may help reduce the anxiety and stress you are experiencing.

Strategy One: Exercise – The key to this strategy is adrenaline. Acute stress, anxiety, fear – these release adrenaline into your body. This flood of adrenaline triggers several responses such as rapid heart rate and the tightening of muscles. These bodily reactions to adrenaline are experienced as a heightening of distress.

Aerobic exercise burns off the adrenaline fast. So when you feel anxiety rising – exercise! Aerobic exercise has to do with increasing heart rate in a controlled and healthy way, and methods include such things as jogging, bike riding, rope jumping and fast-walking.

Strategy Two: Relaxing Music – Most of us have known since childhood the power of music to affect feelings, which in turn affects state of mind. When you sense anxiety (as stress, fear, panic, etc.) building, find your favorite "safe spot" and queue up your favorite relaxing music. Make yourself as comfortable as possible. Do whatever you can to create a safe and relaxing environment (candles? Low lighting? Pillows?). Turn the volume to a comfortable listening level. Then settle in, close your eyes, and let yourself relax into the music.

Strategy Three: Sex – Careful with this technique – this is not a good idea for some people. Sex can actually increase stress and anxiety in certain individuals, and if that's true for you then it would be better to use another method until such time as sex no longer causes the very symptoms you're trying to relate.

However, if the thought and experience of sexual performance does not stress you out, it can certainly have the opposite affect! Given that you have a willing partner who is available, sex can be a great way to relax and make you forget what you were getting about. Much like aerobic exercise, sexual activity can burn off excess adrenaline, and in the process treat the rapid heart rate, tightening of the muscles, and other results of adrenaline that lead to distress and anxiety.

In my conversation with parents, I have come across excuses such as ‘they love desserts’, ‘my child craves for pizzas’ and so on. Children are not born with love for pizzas or donuts. They learn about these only when we expose them to TV commercials and/or munch on such items in their presence.

It is not quite possible to completely avoid children from developing interest in unhealthy food stuff like French fries and pastries. However, with a little guidance and patience, we can control the eating habits of our kids. Remember healthy breakfast is the first step towards improving children’s health.

By gorging on junk food, elders foster unhealthy eating habits in their offspring. Coffee – It Isn’t All Bad!

The debate has raged for many years, and it will probably continue for years… is coffee good or bad for your health? While the jury may be out, here are some findings that indicate coffee is not all bad.

Coffee, as we all know, is high in caffeine, and caffeine is suspected of increasing blood pressure and heart rate. The medical fraternity have long suspected that coffee drinking might therefore contribute to higher rates of heart disease. However a recent study by researchers at the Harvard University School of Public Health found no significant increase in the risk of heart disease or stroke among men who drank up to four cups of coffee a day – a finding supported by the Kaiser Permanente health care organization in California.

The same outcome was found in women where data collected from more than 85,000 women over a 10-year period produced no evidence for any positive association between coffee consumption and risk of heart disease for women consuming six or more cups of coffee a day. That’s a lot of coffee!

This is not to say that there aren’t physical effects to coffee drinking. Caffeine does excite brain cells, and this in turn improves concentration and reaction time and reduces fatigue. In fact, caffeine can increase the speed of rapid information processing by 10%. A study in 1993 clearly demonstrated that caffeinated coffee had a beneficial effect on alertness and improved performance in a variety of tasks. Caffeine also has a beneficial effect on asthma by reducing the severity of attacks. Two studies found that three or more cups of coffee a day reduced the prevalence of asthma and this is further supported by improved ventilatory function in exercise-induced broncho-constriction – although this required over five cups of coffee a day!

Interestingly, it has been found that increased activity, alertness and efficiency are associated with a decline in levels of depression and anxiety. Two independent studies noted a significant inverse association between coffee drinking and the risk of suicide. Further research into the possibility that coffee drinking may decrease depression is certainly needed.

Although, caffeine is often singled out as the chemical in coffee that has the most impact on our health, coffee has a complex chemical composition. One beneficial characteristic of coffee is that it contains compounds with antioxidant properties. Polyphenolic compounds known as flavonoids are common in plants and are known to have disease suppression benefits. What is most interesting is that the roasting process increases antioxidant activity in the beans. Although the beneficial role of food antioxidants is a relatively new research area, this is likely to become more important in years to come.

Yet too much caffeine can lead to irritability and restlessness along with an increase in urination. Talking of this, kidney stones are extremely painful and in a study of some 45,000 men with no history of kidney stones it was found that increased consumption of regular and decaffeinated coffee, tea, beer and wine were linked with a decreased risk of stone formation. The same effect was found in a study involving 81,000 women where caffeinated coffee and wine were found to be significantly more effective than water in helping women avoid kidney stones.

Coffee also has several metabolic effects that could reduce the risk of gallstone formation. According to a study conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), drinking coffee is associated with a 40 percent lower risk of gallstone disease in men. Men who drank four or more cups of regular coffee per day had a 45 percent lower risk profile.

The link between coffee and cancer is probably more weighted in favour of coffee. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with some 131,000 Americans being diagnosed with cancers of the rectum and colon on an annual basis. Now there is some convincing evidence for a protective effect of coffee against the development of colon cancers. A recent review of over 15 studies on coffee consumption and colorectal cancer from 1960 to 1990 found the risk of colorectal cancer to be 24% lower among those who drink four or more cups of coffee per day, than among those who rarely or never drink coffee. Researchers in Sweden also found that “…coffee consumption appears to be protective against colon cancer, and tea against rectal tumors”. The most likely explanation for lower risk of colorectal cancer among heavy coffee consumers is the enhanced colonic activity induced by coffee, and the inhibition effect on the cancer-causing effects of various micro-organisms by anti-mutagenic components in coffee and caffeine.

Coffee is also commonly used to “lift” hangovers and to get going “the morning after”. However it might be more useful to drink it before having the party…as in the past decade, research in the United States, Japan and Italy has shown that the consumption of coffee has a strong protective effect against cirrhosis of the liver. Drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day was associated with an 80% reduction in risk for cirrhosis of the liver, compared with those who don’t drink coffee at all.

On the subject of losing brain cells, Parkinson ‘s disease, a progressive nervous disease occurring generally after age 50, destroys brain cells that produce dopamine and is characterized by muscular tremor, slowing of movement, weakness and facial paralysis. Research into the relationship between caffeine consumption from a variety of sources and the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, has shown that moderate consumption of caffeine reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease in men and women.

In fact, men who drank four to five cups per day of caffeinated coffee cut the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease nearly in half compared to men in the study who consumed little or no caffeine daily. Women who consumed between one and three cups of caffeinated coffee per day also cut their risk nearly in half of developing Parkinson’s disease when compared to women who drank less than a cup of coffee per day – but this apparent benefit was lost at higher levels of intake.

Finally, while some people believe that coffee can induce acid reflux, recent research has found that coffee consumption has no effect whatever at inducing heartburn in healthy people. Even for those individuals with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, coffee consumption was found to have only a minimal effect.

Is coffee all that bad? Probably not…in moderation. Indeed, many studies identifying beneficial effects also noted the loss of these effects at high consumption rates. So, enjoy your three to four cups of coffee a day…on average you’ll be just fine!
