Internal Medicine and Its Benefits

In today’s rapidly growing world, health care and medicine remain controversial and important topics. The demand for doctors and health care specialists is always high, yet it takes years of specialized education and training to train these individuals. Medicine and surgery are serious professions, and the individuals who become certified physicians are highly skilled and dedicated. Among the most dedicated and educated physicians are those specializing in internal medicine. These specialists are efficient in the care of seriously ill patients and are often looked upon by other physicians as effective teachers and consultants.

Internal medicine doctors, also referred to as internists, are highly trained physicians specializing in the treatment of adult diseases. Unlike surgeons, who perform operations to repair the body, internists cure internal ailments with the application of medicine. Internists are so highly trained that they are often brought in to work with other stumped physicians, acting as a consultant. They specialize in diagnosing diseases, sometimes multiple at once, and are highly capable of determining the ailments of a patient. Since most internists are used to treat dramatically ill patients, their work takes place primarily in hospital environments.

Internists receive extensive clinical training, though their training varies considerably from region to region. Typically, an internist will spend four years on an undergraduate degree, then four to five additional years in tertiary medical school. From there, an internal medicine specialist goes on to study through a residency training program for typically two years. After this residency is completed, internists will move on to study in a subspecialization. Most internists are trained to practice exclusively on one organ or system, making them much more effective at the care of their particular specialization. This specialization training can take anywhere from three to ten years, depending on the area studied and the jurisdiction.

Subspecialties of an internal medicine doctor include the treatment of all internal health systems. Cardiology deals with treatment of the cardiovascular system and the well-being of the heart, one of the body’s primary organs. Nephrology specializes in care of the kidney. Pulmonolgy is the study of the lung and of respiratory diseases and conditions. Gastroenterology specializes in the digestive tract and the stomach. Most internal medicine is not limited to treatment by application of medicine alone. Surgeries and practices used to treat internal systems can be found in most sub specializations. Nephrologists use a system called dialysis to artificially replace kidney systems. Pulmonologists employ a process known as bronchoscopy in order to see the the internal air passageways of the lung, for diagnostic purposes. A similar tool, an endoscope, is utilized by gastroenterologists to visualize the insides of the stomach and digestive tract. Angioplasty is a cardiovascular surgery where an obstructed blood vessel is widened using surgical tools and procedure.

Internists are extremely knowledgeable about the inner-workings of the body and its systems. A variety of specialized internists are a valuable asset to health care systems. This is in order to provide care for any variety of internal affliction or disease.

The new treatment available for hepatitis b, which quickly get’s rid of the disease: http://www.squidoo.com/hepatitis-cure

Living with hepatitis b can be difficult. It’s the realization that you have billions of little viruses in your liver, which makes you constantly uncomfortable. People with hepatitis b often have a hard time getting to sleep. That’s understandable. The medical industry has a lot of medications, which are prescribed to make living with hepatitis b easier. The problem is, if taken long term, they can have very bad side effects on other vital organs, including the heart.

Australian researchers, have been looking at the reason why the bodies of most people are able to easily fight off the hepatitis b virus, while in a small percentage of people the virus starts multiplying, without much resistance from the body. What they discovered is that the main reason for that is the extracellular matrix, or cell wall, which surrounds every cell, and in the liver it is a lot thinner. After years of research, a cure has been found, which is currently in testing by the medical companies, and will be released in the coming years. Yet another disease which was a big problem in the past, will now be nothing more than a hurdle, which can be cured in days! Until it is introduced, all people can easily apply the cure themselves, as it is completely natural and side-effect free. Living with hepatitis b is no longer necessary!

Flea’s Driving You Crazy? Flea Treatments Discussed

Fleas affect people, dogs and their environments every summer when that frustrating infestation always seems to emerge.

These parasites are dark in color and lack wings, however they are able to jump great distances in comparison to their body. They feed off blood with a specially adapted mouth which allows them to break their host’s skin to feed.

Here’s a fun flea fact – in regards to body and jumping ratio, fleas are second only to the frog hopper for the distance they can jump!

You will find that pressure does not usually kill a flea – it is difficult to squash a flea without it sliding out and escaping being squashed. Flea’s have an exoskeleton which is designed to avoid elimination through squashing. Consequently they are easily able to maneuver themselves into small spaces because of their flatter bodies and smooth exoskeleton.

If you prefer to pick up individual fleas and dispose of them you can use softened bees wax or sticky tape to collect the fleas prior to drowning them. There are much easier, less time consuming methods, however to get rid of fleas.

These parasites can be not only annoying but debilitating to some dogs – we hope that you can find a remedy which suits you here.

One of the most common side effects of fleas is scratching. When the fleas bite the dog’s skin it causes a skin irritation and the dogs will scratch at it to relive the discomfort. Excessive scratching can result in raw skin leaving the dog open to secondary bacterial skin infections developing.

Not only do fleas cause skin irritations, occasionally dogs can also be allergic to flea bites. When a dog is allergic to fleas, you may see hair loss, open wounds and very red skin. When an allergy is present, it becomes important to remove the flea infestation as quickly as possible. When dogs are suffering a flea allergy, the fleas seem resistant to regular topical treatments and for relief it may be necessary to consult with your vet regarding an internal flea treatment.

These parasitic insects can be evident in puppies from birth depending if the mother or their immediate environment is infested.

When fleas are evident, you almost always also see flea dirt. This is a combination of dried blood and dirt found on the dog. The presence of flea dirt is a sure sign of flea infestation. As soon as flea dirt on the dog’s skin is noticed, the dog owner should start with the plan to eradicate these external parasites. Flea dirt can be removed with a mild cleanser used on the dog and its living environment. You may find that an oatmeal based cleanser works best if your dog is suffering from a particularly bad flea dirt.

Scratching is one obvious side effect of fleas, however dogs with an infestation can also suffer skin inflammation and hair loss. Not many dog owners are aware of the fact that a severe flea infestation can also result in anemia and in very severe cases the blood loss can result in the death of the dog.

Removing the fleas from the dog’s body and its environment will help to wipe out the flea infestation. Fleas only attach to your dog while they feed, they are usually found living in dirt or dark moist areas. They can live in dirt around the dog’s environment and lay dormant for up to six months.

The first step to reducing your dog’s fleas is to bath your pet in a quality flea shampoo. If you are still concerned you can use a fine tooth comb and remove additional fleas which may not have drowned. A flea shampoo kills adult fleas – maintain regular flea baths to help keep the flea infestation at bay. Eggs and larvae would not have been killed by the flea wash – only adults.

In your plan to eradicate the fleas you must also focus on the dog’s living environment. Vacuuming the house thoroughly will assist you to remove fleas and their eggs – however you should be sure to discard the bag or at least its contents straight away. If you are still concerned, place a strip of a flea collar into the vacuum bag. Vacuuming will generally not be sufficient to remove all the fleas. Chemical sprays and insecticides are usually needed to ‘bomb’ a room and eradicate the remaining larvae and eggs.

You should also consider the outside environment. Spray the yard with chemicals formulated to kill fleas. If you are seeking to make your home flea free there are a variety of anti-flea chemicals available. However, dog owners are cautioned against over usage of these chemicals as the pet can get sick if exposed to these chemicals repeatedly.

Use hot soapy water and more flea shampoo to wash the dog’s toys, crate and bedding to be sure to get rid of the dogs fleas. If you would like to ensure that your dog remains flea free after you have eliminated the infestation a monthly flea prevention dosage is readily available.

Many people are turning to natural remedies to eliminate dogs fleas. Toxins used to treat fleas are becoming stronger – simply because the flea’s resistance is improving. There is a growing concern over how far should we go in the war with these pests.

In a normal pet household you may see one animal suffer more seriously than another. The condition of your dog’s skin can impact on the level of flea infestation the dag will have. Healthy skin is more difficult for fleas to penetrate, a dog which has an open wound or skin irritation is more likely to attract fleas simply because the fleas are attracted to the blood and broken skin – meaning less work for the fleas to extract their meal. Improving the quality of a dogs diet and improving their skin can in turn help to reduce their flea infestations.A fish oil capsule per day in a medium sized dog can greatly assist a dog to improve their skin condition.

After washing your dog with a natural flea shampoo you may find that a final rinse in a lemon water will assist in keeping the fleas at bay. Fleas dislike citrus and the juice of a lemon in the rinsing water can be a natural deterrent. Fleas find the odor of citrus unappealing and this can assist to repel the fleas from residing on your dog.

Adding crushed garlic cloves to your dog’s meal can also act as a deterrent to fleas – the smell goes through to their skin and the smell is repellant to fleas. A zinc supplement can also assist your dog to maintain healthy skin and lessen the impact of dogs fleas.

Fleas are a part of owning a pet – seldom will you be able to eradicate them completely. Natural remedies do take longer to take full effect, but they have their place in helping to treat your dog and the flea infestation which seems to emerge every summer.

We Separated And My Husband Moved Out, But He Says Our Marriage Isn’t Over – Why?

I sometimes hear from wives who are confused and frustrated by the mixed signals that their husband is giving off during a marital separation. Often, the wives are trying to prepare themselves for the worst. They sometimes figure that they have to be realistic so they admit, even to themselves, that their situation is not a good one. But often, when they share this admission with their husbands, he either denies that things are over or he sends them mixed signals, which can make an already frustrating situation even worse.

I heard from a wife who said: “my husband moved out about six weeks ago. He has pretty much avoided me for most of the time we’ve been apart. He hasn’t reached out to me and he’s only called a couple of times concerning things that have to do with our children. I had pretty much accepted our marriage was over. When he dropped the kids off the other day, I mentioned that we should probably start preparing them for a divorce or the end of our marriage and my husband looked at me and said ‘what makes you think our marriage is over?’ I was stunned. I said ‘well, typically when people live apart, it’s over.’ He had no response and he hugged me when he left. Then he called me a few days later and asked to meet for coffee tomorrow. I don’t get it. He showed no interest whatsoever until I alluded to the fact it was over. Then he denied it was over and now he seems a little interested again. Why the mixed signals? I was preparing myself for it to be over. And I don’t want to get my hopes up, but if I’m being honest, I’d like to save my marriage.”

There are many reasons that you might get mixed signals from a previously uninterested husband during the separation. I’ll offer some possible reasons in the following article.

He May Not See The Separation In The Same Way That You Do: Sometimes when men ask for time away to think or they ask for a little space, this is truly what they mean. Now, it’s normal to suspect that some men ask for space when really, they have every intention of asking for a divorce eventually. But this is not true in every instance. Some men really do want some space and, after they’ve taken it, they start to have some doubts or some change of heart.

Perhaps The Thought Of The Separation Being Permanent Has Just Become Real To Them: It was probably no coincidence that as soon as the wife said the words “prepare for divorce” or “the end of our marriage” suddenly the husband began changing his tune. Sometimes, hearing these words make things seem more dire, immediate, and real. And there are times when he suddenly realizes that perhaps he doesn’t want for it to be over after all, or at least he wants more time to think it through before just throwing in the towel and calling it over.

How To Proceed When Your Husband’s Saying It’s Not Over And Is Frustrating You With All His Mixed Signals: I know that you may well want to call your husband on this or demand more of an explanation, but try very hard not to over react. Often, mixed signals are better than being served with divorce papers. And they are often a sign that he still has conflicting feelings, which can be a good thing. You’d rather he have conflicting positive feelings than decisive negative ones.

I know it’s tempting to demand that he explain himself or clarify, but in my experience and observation, doing so puts you at risk for him giving you the clarification that you were not hoping for, especially since you are pushing or rushing him.

It’s often better to try to have as much patience as you can, but it’s also understandable that you want and need to address this. A good compromise might be something like: “I was kind of surprised the other day when you said our marriage wasn’t necessarily over. I know that you are sorting a lot of things out and may have conflicting feelings. But I was glad to hear you hear you say that it’s not over. Because it’s not over for me either. Maybe if we are patient with one another and move slowly, we will begin to see come progress and things will continue to improve and become more clear. In the meantime, I hope that we can continue to see each other with the kids and present a united front for them.”

In this way, you aren’t putting any pressure on him and you are reassuring him that he’s not the only one with conflicting emotions. You’re also setting the stage to see more of him (in positive terms) in the near future. This will often help your cause so much more than demanding answers or accountability for his mixed signals.

How to Take Your Fashion Modeling Career to the Next Level

If you are reading this article, you probably are a model, who wants to step up your fashion modeling career to the next level. We have the answers, but it’s not going to be sweet and easy.

We list some of the most important lifestyle changes and steps to take if you are serious about succeeding in this industry (Warning: Not for the faint hearted).

Strict Dieting

This is the first and foremost lifestyle changes to make. The top models such as those from Victoria’ Secret put complete dedication into eating healthy. They do not eat processed food at least 95% of the time, and stick to whole, real foods with low-glycemic index. They strictly follow the diet of eating heavy (carbohydrate-rich diet) for breakfast followed by subsequently lesser quantities of food throughout the day.

Typically a breakfast consists of lean meat, eggs, oatmeal, assorted vegetables; the main target is to get complex carbs and proteins early on in the day. Lunch consists of mostly vegetables and light steamed meat, most importantly carbohydrates are consumed little to none. Dinner consists of vegetables and soups, with some healthy meat. Snacks throughout the day consist of natural sugars and low salt; mostly snacks are assorted fruits (healthy sugars) and nuts (salt-free). Furthermore, a strict following of at least 8 glasses of plain water a day, and cutting out alcohol (Okay maybe you can have a drink once in a while, but no binging).

Some fashionistas such as Kat Von D and Madonna pride in a vegan diet that is free of all kinds of eggs, meats, and dairy. You can look up on their diets and how it is linked to good skin and overall health.

Strong exercise regime

If you want to be fit there are plenty of exercise regimes out there, but our favorite one for women is that of Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr, who exposes her fitness regime and dietary plans on Women’s Health and Fitness Magazine, and an excellent article by Huffington post on fitness plans for male models who should be focused on bodybuilding and toning of their muscles

Know your target market

As you intend to step into the fashion industry, you should also think about what target market best suits your look. For example in America there is an advent of plus-sized models, because they are more representative of regular, everyday women in America. As such, there is a need to think about the market that best suits the look and style you have to offer. You may have started out in your own home country, but as you decide to pursue a long term career in fashion modeling, there derives a need to think of international possibilities to advance your career.

Sign on with a model agency

If you are currently freelancing, a good way to step up your game is to sign on with a credible modeling agency that will spearhead your career. As a freelancer, you have the ability to undertake multiple contracts with various modeling agencies. You will thus be able to make a more informed choice on the modeling agency that will best work with your interests. Signing on a year’s contract or similar to that like, will mean getting more opportunities with bigger clients, and representing the agency on the international stage as well. As a model you have everything you need looked after, and you can focus your entire attention and energy into your job.

Pursue further studies in Modeling

Gaining industry knowledge and expertise in your specialized field and area will never be a disadvantage. A professional qualification in modeling will prove your capabilities as a model, and give you an edge as you progress in the modeling field.

Finally as Rihanna puts it, “work, work, work!” is the only real way to progress in the field and there is no substitute for hard work. Keep striving, getting more jobs, landing more opportunities and clients, while you have the beauty and energy to do so, and you will definitely progress far in a fashion career.

12 Cancer-Causing ‘Elements’ Found In Our Home!

When I jokingly told my friend about 12 common categorized ‘cancer causing elements’ found in some homes, my friend was in disbelief! She couldn’t accept these facts that there are cancer-causing elements found in our own home… Let’s have a look at all those cancer-causing elements basically found in our home!

[1] Vanishes, Industrial coatings, Paints and their solvents and Glues

These are generally found in newly completed or renovated homes where most of them are freshly applied to walls, floors, ceilings in bedrooms, sitting rooms, kitchens and even our bathroom.

A very distinctive sign of all these home finishing coatings will be the unbearable odor when applied inside or outside the house. Decaying plasters after decades will also be cancerous. The worst is that we spend more time at home, thus increasing certain risks.

[2] Electrical appliances

Most electrical appliances produce small or slight radiation and is never healthy towards those who are constantly exposed to them. What are these electrical appliances? Television sets, video players, computers, hand phones and the main switch just to mention a few.

[3] Water-borne cancer-causing elements that comes from our water taps

Tap water is always chlorinated to kill germs and bacteria. We need chlorine but we need not drink the chlorine inside the water. Moreover, there are heavy metals, other contaminants, possible

toxins that one is not aware of. In the process of washing, cleansing, cooking and drinking, many have unknowingly consumed dirtied water that might be cancer-causing in the long run.

[4] In your kitchen, in your bathroom..

Some toothpaste, shampoos, soaps, body shampoos, washing powder do contains unexplainable cancer-causing elements. Most of these are manufactured without scientific backup and lack of quality control. So, take great care to buy only reputed branded quality products which are backed up with scientific proofs. Read the labels outside the products, its expiry date and know the basic ingredients it is made. .

[5] Insecticides to keep away mosquitoes, cockroaches and other insects

If they can kill small insects, it can also poison people slowly too when exposed for a long period of usage of the said chemicals. Moreover, it is not safe for young kids and the aged.

[6]In your bedroom

Poor ventilation in enclosed bedrooms, lacking of sunlight and fresh air will create poor quality air. Contaminated air will cause a lot of health problems. Great care should be taken as to maintain clean and fresh air in the bedroom.

There are certain contaminants in the air that will cause cancer. Free radicals from polluted air will attack our body DNA and immune system unmercifully.

[7] Improper cooking utensils

Aluminium pots, non-stick pans that gets worn out and gets thinner after constant use can cause havoc in our body when these metals and unknown chemicals are consumed with our foods cooked using them. Sad to say, it cannot be easily excreted from our body. The worst fear is that it goes into our blood streams. Cooking gas when inhaled will also cause health problems.

[8] Unsafe food containers, food storage compartment

Some housewives are ignorant about using safe food containers, when microwaving and cooking. Some food containers are not suitable for storing hot foods, especially plastic and rubber.

[9] Your supplies of canned foods, preserved foods, sauces and stale foods kept too long,

Some canned foods are full of cancer-causing elements. Moldy foods are never advisable for consumption too. Foods rich in fats that become stale is cancer-causing too. Beware of stale groundnuts! It is the fat that cause it to be cancer-causing.

[10] In your wardrobe

Dark deep colored lingerie and underwear….. Those underwear that are wore day and night, close to our sensitive body parts … dyed by certain dyes can be cancer-causing. A word of advice, don’t buy or wear dark colored lingerie or underwear, especially black.

[11] In your cardboard

You might keep some medicines, pills, cough solution in your cardboard. You might also be in some form of medication. Some drugs are only found to contain carcinogens after a period of trial and error. What a big guinea pig we have become!

[12] In your dressing room

Some skin care products and cosmetics might also contain cancer-causing elements too. Beware of some skin care products who never emphasized on safety and quality control. Be smart to opt for preventive measures which are still the best!

What all of us fear is pollution and contamination. Polluted air, water, environment and food or drinks will cause cancer in the long run when the free radicals create havoc in our body system. Too much toxemia and acidosis will ruin our normal cells. From there, cancer is born….

Preventing Kidney Stones After Kidney Stone Surgery

It is a well-documented fact that even after surgical removal of kidney stones, up to 50% of patients may have recurrence within 5 years. Therefore, some preventive measures must be taken in order to avoid kidney stones in the future.
In the longer term, a daily urine output of at least 2 liters is advisable in all patients with stone disease. Fluid intake should therefore be about 3 liters per day—more if the climate or the patient’s occupation causes much sweating. Suitable measures should be implied to correct any known cause of stone formation. Preparations containing vitamin D must be avoided, even milk intake has to be reduced.
Idiopathic hypercalciuria can be helped by reduction of sodium intake (low salt intake) and by the use of a thiazide diuretic. Reduction of calcium intake is not recommended unless it is very high, as it may lead to a negative overall calcium balance and reduction of bone mass which ultimately makes bones weaker, also reduction of calcium intake causes increased oxalate absorption and excretion.
Citrate excretion can be increased by daily administration of potassium nitrate or potassium bicarbonate. Alternatively, lemon juice may be a very good dietary source. Hypokalemia should be prevented as it leads to a reduction in citrate excretion.
In patients with recurrent oxalate stones, foods and some liquids rich in this salt, such as rhubarb, spinach, tomatoes, strawberries, chocolate and tea, should be avoided. Persons who have passed several uric acid or urate stones benefit from allopurinol, 100-300 mg daily, depending on renal function. Allopurinol also has a place in treating calcium oxalate stone disease, since urates may contribute by acting as a nidus (nest) for stone formation.
Phosphate-containing calculi are formed only in alkaline urine; hence acidifying the urine by giving ammonium chloride may be effective. In contrast, cystine and urate stones may be prevented or sometimes dissolved, by giving sufficient sodium bicarbonate to make the urine persistently alkaline, and ensuring a high urine output of 2-4 liters/day. When these measures fail or are unacceptable to the patient, treatment with D-penicillamine, a chelating agent, in a dose of 1-1.5 gram daily may be tried, although it is frequently associated with significant side effects.
In case of struvite stones, which are actually magnesium-ammonium-phosphate stones and quite common in women with recurrent urinary tract infections, protease inhibitors are advised. Frequently, struvite stones are large staghorn calculi, and urine pH is high. These stones are formed due to infection with urease producing organisms such as Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus and Mycoplasma but not E. coli. Therefore, struvite stones are also called as Infection stones.

Disability Tax Credit For De Vivo Disease

In people with De Vivo disease their brains do not receive the right amount of the molecule called GLUT1 or Glucose transporter type 1. The GLUT1 ensures that the human brain gets the right and enough amount of glucose needed for its function. The lack of this molecule leads to insufficient amount of glucose in the blood, which in turn will not be able to transport the adequate amount of glucose to the brain. This will then lead to a blood brain barrier resulting in mental retardation and neurological problems.

Cause of De Vivo disease

The cause of this disease is the onset of blood barrier in the body. The glucose in the blood is being barricaded from getting into the brain and if the brain is not able to receive the glucose, there will be no glucose molecules to be transported in the body. This will then result in De Vivo disease.

Some of the symptoms of De Vivo disease are

— Delayed development

— Small head

— Seizures

— Low glucose level particularly in cerebrospinal fluid

— Ataxia

Complications of the disease

The most common complication is post spinal headache, which often leads to nausea. It is also characterized by delayed development or intellectual disability wherein the person has slow developments. Speech difficulties are to be expected as well. The disease is very rare and only 1 out of 10 people acquire the disease. That is why there are not too many resources about the disease and it is not widely talked about.

Disability tax benefit

De Vivo disease is really hard and a person who suffers from this needs to undergo therapy and ketogenic diet which can help with the seizures and ease the other symptoms as well. It is very obvious that a person who has this disease will not be able to study or work. However, there is a solution to that problem. You will be able to get a disability tax credit with the help of Canadian Disability Corporation (CDC). To benefit from the disability tax credit all you have to do is pass some requirements and your application will be evaluated by the professionals. The CDC is known for their fast compliance to those who wish to apply for the tax credits in order to get the benefits that will really help them a lot financially.

When Morning Sickness Becomes Extremely Severe, it is Known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum

When morning sickness becomes extremely severe, it is known as hyperemesis gravidarum.

So, this article will explain the definition, causes, people who may suffer, symptoms, risks from it, treatment, etc of hyperemesis gravidarum.
In the US: Hyperemesis gravidarum occurs in 0.5-2% of pregnancies, with the variation in incidence arising from different diagnostic criteria and ethnic variations. Studies have found an admission rate of 0.8% for hyperemesis gravidarum and an average of 1.3 hospital admissions per hyperemesis patient, with an average hospital stay of 2.6-4 days.
Nausea and vomiting are common in pregnancy, occurring in 70-85% of all gravid women. Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe and intractable form of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. It is a diagnosis of exclusion and may result in weight loss; nutritional deficiencies; and abnormalities in fluids, electrolyte levels, and acid-base balance. The peak incidence is at 8-12 weeks of pregnancy, and symptoms usually resolve by week 20 in all but 10% of patients. Uncomplicated nausea and vomiting of pregnancy is generally associated with a lower rate of miscarriage, but hyperemesis gravidarum may affect the health and well-being of both the pregnant woman and the fetus.
Causes of Hyperemesis gravidarum
The precise causes of Hyperemesis gravidarum remains unknown as well and Researchers are continuing to study hyperemesis gravidarum in the hopes of finding the exact cause of the disease. There are some causes which will increase the risk of suffering Hyperemesis gravidarum. These causes include:

1, High levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). Levels of this pregnancy hormone rise quickly during the early stages of pregnancy and may trigger the part of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting.

2, Increased estrogen levels. This hormone also affects the part of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting.

3, Helicobacter pylori. A research study in Obstetrics &Gynecology reported that 90% of pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum are also infected with this bacterium, which may sometimes cause stomach ulcers.

4, Thyroid imbalances

5, Vitamin B deficiency

6, Gastrointestinal changes. During your entire pregnancy the digestive organs displace to make room for the growing fetus. This may result in acid reflux and the stomach emptying more slowly, which can cause nausea and vomiting.

7, Psychological factors. Stress can often make you physically ill. The anxiety that can accompany a pregnancy may trigger acute morning sickness.

8, High-fat diet. Recent research shows that women with a high-fat diet are at a much greater risk for developing hyperemesis gravidarum. Their risk increases five times for every additional 15 grams of saturated fat (such as a quarter-pound cheeseburger) they eat each day.
People who are at the risk of HG

Those with the following characteristics are at a higher risk of HG:
1, being obese

2, being of young maternal age

3, carrying twins

4, having previous hyperemesis gravidarum
How to recognize HG
The symptoms of HG typically begin around the sixth week of pregnancy. Usually, symptoms disappear around the 20th week, however, in about 5% of women, symptoms can continue throughout the third trimester.

The most common symptoms of HG are:

1, Persistent, excessive vomiting or the urge to vomit. Vomiting is considered excessive if it occurs more than three or four times per day and prevents you from keeping down any food or fluids for a period of 24 hours.

2, uncontrollable vomiting

3, vomiting blood or bile

4, vomiting after eating or drinking

5, vomiting not related to eating

6, severe weight loss (at least 5% of pre-pregnancy weight) over a 1-2 week period.

7, increased heart rate

8, shivering

9, extreme fatigue

10 increased salivation

11 dehydration

12 nutritional deficiencies

13 Lightheadedness or fainting.

14 Infrequent urination.

15 Pale skin.

16 Jaundice.
How HG can affect you and your baby
HG is a serious illness that can pose potential health complications. If left untreated, hyperemesis gravidarum can lead to continued weight loss and malnutrition, which may become life threatening. The illness also causes extremely poor quality of life. If vomiting continues, there is a risk of developing liver or stomach complications. The disease is also associated with an increased risk of gallbladder disease.

Though serious, hyperemesis gravidarum does not appear to pose any severe complications for your baby. If treated immediately, most babies are born completely healthy. However, if treatment is not pursued, there is an increased risk of going into preterm labor or having a baby with a low birth weight. Certain drug treatments given to mothers with hyperemesis gravidarum have been known to cause defects in baby.
Treatment for HG
Treatment for HG is to reduce nausea and vomiting, replace fluids and electrolytes and improve nutrition and weight gain.

It is important to contact your health care provider if you are experiencing severe nausea and vomiting. If properly treated, there should be no serious complications for you or your baby. Your health care provider can tell you whether your case is mild or severe. If it’s mild, you should change your diet by eating more protein and complex carbohydrates, such as nuts, cheese and crackers, and milk. It’s best to eat these foods in small portions, several times throughout the day. You should also avoid eating fatty foods, drink plenty of water, and get as much rest as possible. (For more suggestions, see our morning sickness article). Your doctor may also recommend taking antacids and an antiemetic (anti-vomiting) medication.
Medications your doctor may prescribe for severe cases include:
1, Antihistamines, which help ease nausea and motion sickness.

2, Vitamin B6, which helps ease nausea (if you’re unable to take it orally your doctor can give you an injection).

3, Phenothiazine, which helps ease nausea and vomiting.

4, Metoclopramide, which helps increase the rate that the stomach moves food into the intestines.

5, Antacids, which can absorb stomach acid and help prevent acid reflux.

6, Corticosteroids (such as Medrol)
Severe cases of hyperemesis gravidarum require hospitalization. Once there, you may receive intravenous fluids, glucose, electrolytes, and, occasionally, vitamins and other nutritional supplements. Your vitamin levels may also be monitored since women suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum are often deficient in thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, vitamin A, and retinol-binding proteins. Remember, pregnant women need to maintain a much higher level of calories, protein, iron, and folate than nonpregnant women. Your health care provider will talk to you about the sufficient levels and how to maintain them.
Anti-nausea drugs and sedatives may be given, and you will be encouraged to rest. After receiving intravenous (IV) fluids for 24 to 48 hours, you may be ready to eat a clear liquid diet and then move on to eating several small meals a day. You will be monitored by your health care provider after you leave the hospital, and be readmitted if problems continue or recur.
Some women opt to use natural treatment methods to handle side effects of the illness. Acupuncture, acupressure, and hypnosis have proven to be effective treatments, and produce no side effects in baby.

Hyperemesis is the second leading cause of hospitalization in pregnancy, second only to preterm labor. Additionally, many women experience significant psychosocial morbidity, occasionally interfering with assumption of the maternal role and rarely leading to termination of the pregnancy. Women with hyperemesis gravidarum are often encouraged to work with a counselor since emotional problems may not only contribute to this condition, but may result from it as well.

All About Vaccinations In The Immigration Medical Examination

Most green card applicants find that the Immigration Medical Examination can be one of the most excruciating part of the entire journey of immigration. But with the right guidance one can go through it without much of a problem.

Vaccinations are an important part of the Immigration Medical Examination.

WHY ARE VACCINATIONS REQUIRED?

An amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act in September 1996 requires that any person who is in the process of seeking an immigrant visa to show evidence that he has received vaccinations against diseases that are preventable by vaccines.

WHICH BODY DETERMINES THE REQUIRED VACCINATIONS?

The Secretary of Health and Human Services is the body that regulates the Immigration Medical Examination process.

WHAT ARE THE VACCINATIONS REQUIRED TO BE TAKEN?

As recommended by the U S Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices green card applicants are required to take vaccines. The immigrant’s vaccine history, medical history and age will determine which of the vaccines need to be administered.

List of vaccine-preventable diseases:

• Mumps

• Measles

• Rubella

• Polio

• Tetanus

• Diphtheria

• Pertussis

• Haemophilus influenzae Type B

• Rotavirus

• Hepatitis A

• Hepatitis B.

o Meningocococcal disease

o Human papillomavirus

o Varicella

• Pneumococcal pneumonia

• Influenza

• Zoster.

WHO IS SUPPOSED TO PAY FOR THE VACCINATIONS?

Payment for the vaccinations depends upon the panel physician or Civil Surgeon. Some Civil Surgeons include the cost of some standard vaccinations in the total cost of the Immigration Medical Examination there are some doctors who charge for every extra vaccination in addition to the cost of the Immigration Medical Examination. It is advised that the applicant for the Exam checks up with the Civil Surgeon before he or she shows up for the appointment.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT IN ORDER TO SHOW PROOF FOR THE IMMUNIZATIONS?

If the applicant has already been vaccinated before for certain diseases and wants to avoid being re-vaccinated then the applicant needs to bring in a personal vaccination record or copy of the medical record with entries that have been made by a physician or appropriate medical personnel to the Immigration Medical Examination.

Before the applicant appears for the Exam the applicant should ask the family doctor for a copy of the immunization record.

SHOULD ALL VACCINES IN A SERIES BE RECEIVED BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE US?

It is not required for visa applicants to have received all doses of every vaccine before they leave their country for the United States. What is important is that they should have received at least one dose of the recommended vaccine and as many as possible before they leave the country. Once they arrive in the United States they can finish the series.

What To Do If You Have IBS And Diarrhoea?

One symptom of bowel dysfunction is diarrhoea. Diarrhoea is when food passes through and out of the bowel very quickly.

When does diarrhoea occur? Diarrhoea is usually a reaction to food poisoning. You have eaten food which is full of bugs; the body’s defence mechanism is engaged and the food is expelled from the body as fast as possible.

Diarrhoea may also occur when you are tense or scared. Ancient man was born with a flight or fight response. What this means is that when ancient man faced dangers that could kill him, the body produced adrenaline which either helped man run away or have the courage to face the danger. Humans today still have this defence response. These days it is stress, pace of life and the like that causes us to produce adrenaline rather than facing Woolly Mammoths. The effect of adrenaline on the body is to speed up bodily functions including the gut; remember exam time or your driving test? You may also notice that your breathing is quicker, that you can’t relax as easily as you used to or that you’re more rushed to fit everything in. If your bowel is reacting to stress then you need more than a change in diet. You would need to relax more. This could mean taking up yoga, meditation, hypnosis or a more physical activity such as running.

If your stool is frequent and loose then it might be an idea to take a break from food and just drink fluids [not tea or coffee] for a day. It is thought that over cooking white or brown rice until it is a pulp is also easy on the digestion. Rice is a very mild food on the bowel, which is why you will find that on any exclusion diet, rice is still allowed. Linseed is also useful in reducing diarrhoea as it acts as sponge by absorbing excess fluid in the bowel.

Turning to medicines should be a last resort. Medicines have their place in the treatment of illnesses but an eastern philosophy is useful to adopt here which is cure the cause not the symptom. If you are suffering diarrhoea, then your body is telling you that it is using diarrhoea to heal itself. Taking medicines now, like Imodium, may block the healing process. In addition it is possible that by taking a drug that prevents diarrhoea you end up with constipation.

If you suffer alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhoea then seek a cure for the constipation first as the diarrhoea maybe a by product of constipation. The lining of a constipated bowel maybe contaminated with toxins such that the body uses watery stools to flush the toxins away.

If your bowel symptoms persist, you must see your medical doctor. Do not self diagnose as your pain may be a sign something more dangerous.

Arthritis Aids – Products to Make Life Easier For Seniors

Anyone who suffers from arthritis understands how difficult everyday tasks can be. Luckily, there are arthritis aids that help make life easier for seniors. One such task that can be extremely difficult is cutting your food. Along with being frustrating, not being able to do this is a shot at a person’s pride. To avoid this from happening, there is a cutlery set that makes you able to cut food with one utensil. It combines a knife and a fork so you can cut the food and eat it with the same utensil.

Having arthritis gets in the way of doing simple things that most people take for granted because they do not even realize that there are some people who cannot do them. One example is closing an umbrella. People do not realize how difficult it can be until you have arthritis yourself. There are one button umbrellas available as arthritis aids that open and close with just the push of a button. Another product that you can use to make your life easier is for hygienic purposes. Holding bath tissue can be difficult with arthritis, so there is a product that holds it for you, and then you just have to hold the rod with the toilet tissue on it.

Getting dressed also becomes a challenge when you have arthritis because of all the buttons and zippers involved. To make this easier, you need the following arthritis aids. There is a button hook that makes that challenge so much easier. There even is a device that helps women put on their bras easier. You no longer have to worry about the difficult reach when you use this product. There even is a device that transfers your traditional earrings into clip on earrings. This makes it so much easier to accessorize your outfits.

Another one of the many arthritis aids that make life easier for seniors is for turning keys. Because keys are so small, they can be difficult to grasp when you have arthritis. There are devices you can attach to your key that are large, so they make it simple to turn a key. You can use these for your home or your vehicle. There also are jar openers and pen holders that make those everyday tasks doable again. Having arthritis does not have to interfere with your everyday life when you use the many aids available today.

The Things I Learned From My Anxiety & Panic

Water Can Make Me Feel Better

It’s funny, I found this out completely by accident. When a panic attack or that pretzel anxiety would hit I would strike back with a tall glass of cool water. The dizziness and tension in my neck would usually go away within minutes.

Exercise Isn’t For Jocks

I was never athletic. I was one of the girls who did the minimal workouts in high school. When my Doctor suggested that it might help my anxiety I had to test it out. She was right! Today if I am having a stressful day I head over to the gym or go outside for a little burst/interval training. About five minutes into my workout I am sweating and the stress is melting away. So much better than hitting the sugar for comfort.

Breathing Can Stop a Panic Attack

Did you know that deep belly breathing will start the relaxation response in your body? Great thing is no one even has to know what’s going on. Feel that tension or a panic attack looming? 10 deep belly breaths nice and controlled can send the Panic Monster Packing.

Not Everyone Is Out For Our Best Interest

I couldn’t even count the people who didn’t understand my anxiety or thought I was crazy for working on getting it out of my life. Now who’s laughing? You have to do what you think is the best for you. It does not matter if it’s firing a doctor, distancing yourself from a negative friend, or monitoring your books and media – your mental health is the most important thing. Don’t forget the news is not a public service. They make lots of money by instilling fear into the public every day. The scarier the better for them.

Anxiety Can Go Away

This is something I wondered for a long time. Was it just the way the rest of my life was supposed to be? I knew in my heart I couldn’t live that way. I refused to! I rattled my shell, made my healing the most important thing and found freedom. I am just a regular woman with lots on her plate, if I can do it I know without a doubt you can too!

Faith Can Really Give You Focus

In a world where people focus on the negative all the time we need some hope, inspiration and guidance. I found that it was really helpful in my journey to think I had someone on my side helping me carry the heavy load that wanted the best for me. Whatever your faith is now is a great time to plug in and get involved. Helping others too is a great way to heal yourself!

Supplements Really Are Worth It!

I always thought that supplements were expensive and a waste of my money. When my Nurse friend Patrice recommended that I try balancing my body and offering it more support I thought “I can’t spend that kind of money.” I reluctantly gave in. I could show you my Daily Healing Journal from those days – the changes really picked up when my body had what it needed and I could focus on reprogramming my mind. It really shocked me how sometimes a vitamin deficiency can have anxiety, depression and panic symptoms. Why don’t doctors look into that before handing out medicine that can cover up those symptoms? I wanted to become my own Health Detective and make Health my Hobby. Why was I feeling like this? When we head to the doctor’s office and receive a prescription we head directly to the pharmacy and hand over our money every time. We always make allowances in our budget for that money, why do we make excuses for gym memberships and supplements? Those are two things that really changes the way I felt and handled stress.

I Needed To Be Treated Like a Child

When we are small little children we are put on routines, only focusing on the present moment. We don’t analyze the past or worry about what’s happening tomorrow. We are only concerned with our current needs. Before bed we are given a routine – a bath, brush our teeth and a happy bedtime story. That way we know what comes next and our minds and bodies are able to relax. Mom handed us our favorite bear or blanket to comfort us and off to sleep we went. When did all of that change.? I learned I needed to focus on the moment, put routines in my life, stop multi-tasking and Nest every night before bed.

I Deserve All The Best In The World

Who said the one who is overlooked and not cared for is happiest? I don’t believe it – that person was me! I was overworked, overtired and a mess! I learned that if I was going to have a marvelous life I had to make it that way. I needed to pamper myself, love myself and take care of myself as if I was another person. I deserved it!

We are creative, emotional, loving people. Sometimes that’s great and sometimes that’s our biggest flaw. This can be the biggest experience of your life. Think of it as a birth – labor is always the hardest part, but the light is coming. We are all here to guide the way and offer you inspiration and motivation everyday! We love you lots and know “Egg”actly where you have been.

Hypothyroidism

Are you having trouble losing weight?  You may have Hypothyroidism

If you would like to increase your thyroid function, increase your metabolism, and support a healthy cholesterol metabolism, order the “Thyroid Helper” now.

What is the thyroid and how does it work?

Thyroid is actually a type of gland located in the human. Its shape is like a butterfly and the wind pipe wraps around it.  The thyroid gland works just like a small factory that uses iodine to produce thyroid hormones. These hormones help to regulate the body’s metabolism and affect the body’s growth process, development, and mental function among other things.  If it is slow (hypo), it is called hypothyroid.  If it is fast (hyper), it is called hyperthyroid.  Today we will discuss hypothyroid.  If you have hypothyroidism, it can be harmful and should be brought to the attention of a physician because it might lead to some health related problems.

What are the symptoms?

 Low Metabolic Rate                                          Mental Fogginess

Constipation                                                     Hair Loss

Fatigue                                                             Dropping/Swollen Eyes

Tiredness                                                         Slowing of Bodily Processes

Tinglling Extremeties                                        Yellow Bumps on Eyelids

Swelling in the Lower Extremeties                    Slowed Heart Rate (Bradycardia)

Intolerance To Cold                                          Dry Skin

Yellow-Orange Skin                                          Slugginess

Weight Gain                                                     Forgetfulness

Difficulty Losing Weight                                    Dry, Coarse Hair

Fluid Retention                                                 Cramps

Chronic Drowsiness                                          Depression

Excessive or Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding (Menorrhagia)

Breastmilk Production in Women Who Aren’t Pregnant

Specific Aches and Stiffness in Muscles and Joints

What should I do if I have the symptoms?

Most people will have multiple symptoms.  If you experience these symptoms, contact your doctor and have a thyroid test done.  A key step is to determine if too high or low a Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) level or a lack of T3 hormone is preventing you from feeling well.  You may lack the ability to convert T4 to active T3.  So, be sure that they not only test the TSH but also the T3 and T4 levels.

So, your first step for you is knowing your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level, and other key thyroid levels such as T4 (Levothyroxine) and T3 (Liothyronine).  These levels allow you to help gauge where your doctor is in terms of treatment, and give you a common point of discussion.  More doctors are beginning to believe that a TSH of around 1 – 2 (in the low end of the normal range) is optimal for most people to feel well and avoid having hypothyroid or hyperthyroid symptoms.  Some people feel terrible at 4-5, and at .2, but pretty good at 1 – 2.

For some people, you can still have hypothyroidism at a cellular level with the symptoms although your TSH level may be normal.  This may be due to conversion problems, inadequate T3 hormone, or other factors.

They will probably prescribe medication.  Many times they will prescribe Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothyroid, and Unithroid medications which only deals with the T4.

Request your doctor to provide you with a prescription that is a combination of T3 AND T4

OR

Request that your doctor has the pharmacist to make up a T3/T4 combo as per the doctor’s specs.

What can I do to help myself?

There are different things that you can do to help yourself.  I have experienced issues with my Levoxyl not working.  Although my TSH levels were normal and fluctuated, I still had a major amount of the systems which the doctor failed to related to the hypothyroid and I just didn’t feel well.

I found that it was easier to take matters into my own hand once I understood what the problem was.  So, I ordered “Thyroid Helper”, which is a more natural product to help my thyroid… and… it works.  Also, while the others are made from the glands of pigs or have stimulants in them, this one doesn’t.

If you would like to increase your thyroid function, increase your metabolism, and support a healthy cholesterol metabolism, order the “Thyroid Helper” now.
