Coconut Oil and Its Advantages

India has been quite a forerunner when it comes to the use of coconut oil. Most women and men swear by the application of warm oil on their tresses. The general rule of thumb, so to speak, is to inculcate a habit of massaging the scalp at least once a week. The oil is left on the hair for a couple of hours and after a shower, you notice the difference – your hair feels lovely. Aside from the effect that this natural oil brings to the table for your hair, there are plenty of other advantages Let us dwell on some of the benefits of the oil.

Most people do not realize this but coconut oil is quite advantageous while cooking. A reliable brand adds to the flavor. The taste and smell adds texture to an average curry or even chutney. I would suggest that you buy a small bottle or packet. Coconut oil left for a long time tends to get rancid and you do not want to use this at all either on your tresses or in your cooking. If you end up forgetting about the oil in your larder, it will invariably have a foul smell, which means that this needs to be chucked out.

Skin Problems

The general thought process of refraining from applying oil on acne prone skin or oily skin remains on point. If you are not troubled with these problems, and have regular or dry skin, use coconut oil as a massage it after bath. It works wonderfully as a moisturizer on your body. The one note to follow is to ensure that you do not use copious quantities because this is not cream it is oil! Alternatively, you can also massage your body with the oil prior to a nice warm shower and your skin will reap the rewards.

Anti Ageing Benefits

Many women who have been using coconut oil on their bodies swear at the fact that this oil helps cut back the years without having to go under the knife. Given the fact that a good brand is a solution that does not eat away the hard-earned notes, it is worth considering. Of course, as said earlier, if you are riddled with acne or have oily skin, do not use the oil. Check with the doctor and only if you get the green light, go for it.

Cools the Tempers

People who have their scalps massaged with coconut oil regularly do not get into grouchy moods, or so I have heard. Having tried this out myself, I noticed that the scalp massage and a massage on the forehead cools me down when I am grumpy! As mentioned before, if you want something to help you that does not eat up your savings, coconut oil from a reliable brand is the answer. Again, if you have a pimpled scalp or forehead, get professional help from the doctor before venturing here.

A number of people are switching over to coconut oil. There have been claims that the oil aids in weight loss, reducing cholesterol and many other long-term illnesses. I cannot state that this has worked for me, given the fact that I am a hardened foodie. Having said that, there is proof that coconut oil works wonderfully on the skin, hair and aids in cooking.

When there is something new on offer, it can take a while to switch over. The southern part of is home to many coconut plantations. Most South Indians use coconut in curries, side dishes, drinks, desserts, cakes and many more. Coconut milk adds flavor to a simple dish. The milk boiled for a couple of hours gives you homemade coconut oil. Throw away the charred mass and keep the organic oil in a sterilized bottle to use as often as you can. In a nutshell (pun intended), the coconut is a versatile nut that has a number of uses and the oil is amazing.

Racquetball After 40 – How to Beat the Younger, Faster Player

My return to racquetball started six months ago, shortly after my 42nd birthday. After one session in the 4-wall ping-pong chamber, I quickly remembered why I love this game. Action. Speed. Aggression. Strategy. Lateral Movement. Body Slams. Trash talking…Racquetball has all that – plus a great cardio workout. After an hour, I was spent.

The next day, I also remembered why I stopped playing. Ouch. Sore in places I forgot I had. However, within a few weeks of regular play 2X a week – and with a diligent warm up routine – my body quickly acclimated.

I am not a doctor or a professional athlete, but I love to play sports and stay active, and I’ve learned what to do to keep my aging body in the game. If you want to get back into racquetball (and c’mon…I know you do!) here are three areas you need to focus on to keep playing… and winning.

1. Don’t Write Checks Your Body Can’t Cash

The adrenaline of the game can motivate you to make plays that are going to punish your body. The two most common body wreckers are: diving for the ball and running into a wall. Add to that hyperextending your joints and hitting the ball too hard and you have a recipe for a seriously taxed body after your court session. If you play several times a week, these nagging bumps and pulls can turn into serious injuries that will take you significant time to recover. If you’re over 40, you probably have a few more LB’s than you did when you played in your 20’s. Extra weight combined with hard impacts and lunges will lead to either heel bruises, knee strains, or back pulls (or all of them!). I’ve had them, and the only way to recover is usually to do NOTHING for a long time – and that just aint no fun.

Don’t let your pride get the best of you. I’ve lost a lot of playing partners who put up a good fight for one game, but couldn’t come back next week to play again.

Use your head. Stretch out for at least 15 minutes before you play. Precede your stretch with a short jog. Play against the side walls for at least 5 minutes. Practice playing low to the ground – it’s the low lunges that lead to muscle pulls, so warmup that muscle behaviour before you play.

Deal with your post-game battle wounds ASAP. Don’t be a hero and limp around for a week – if you do you’re starting down the path of a long-term nagging injury. Ice it, jacuzzi it, asprin it, wrap it, etc. Get sleep so your body can heal. Take glucosamine for your joints. If you take care of your body, it will acclimate…just don’t expect it to spring back like it did in your 20’s!

2. Gear Up

Goggle, Shoes, Racquet glove and Knee Support. This is your required battle gear.

Yes, goggles can fog up…but eyeballs cannot be replaced. Every time I contemplate peeling off my goggles – I end up taking a shot to the mug. A compressed racquetball hitting your eye socket can suck your eyeball right out. Enough said. Bring 2 pairs and rotate them when one fogs up.

Shoes. You need good shoes, that fit snugly. Don’t grab your ancient nikes – get some new shoes. You don’t need to spend a fortune. Get 2 cheap pairs that you can rotate so the shoes have time to recover. If your ankles are a bit out of practice, you may want to consider basketball shoes for extra support. If you turn an ankle you are on injured reserve for quite a while. Or, you can wrap your ankles before you play. Hey! It ain’t about lookin’ pretty…it’s about winning!

Racquet glove. Keeps your wrist from getting carpal tunnel from straining to grip the raquet. Worth the small investment.

Knee support. I’m not a big guy…170 pounds, 5′ 10″ – and I’m in OK shape. But, I wear knee supports, and I’ll tell you why. Because my knees were taking a pounding. If you want to play hard, you will end up diving for the ball or scrambling off the floor. You’re a warrior – you can’t help it! In the heat of battle, your knees will take the hit, but the next day you’ll be hurting. And each following game…they’ll get worse, and worse. Soon, you’ll have to stop playing for a while. Let’s face it – you’re not 20 anymore. Your body needs time to recover. Plus you need to go to work on Monday and still be a pack-mule for all of your families’ junk! Make sure you have enough body left over for your family!

Don’t show up with velcro knee pads…you’re not laying tile! Simple slip-on, breathable latex type knee supports that aren’t so tight that they restrict movement will help your knees survive.

3. Winning Strategy: Placement & Positioning. Especially important if you’re playing younger bucks that have energy to burn. To conserve your energy, you need to play smart. Playing smart involves placing the ball in the right spot, and positioning your body in the right spot on the court. Hitting the ball hard doesn’t win games. Putting the ball where your opponent is not does. Make the bastard run. Make ’em dive. Make ’em beg for mercy!

Here are a few playing tips I’ve learned that increase your odds of winning.

1. Quiver O’ Serves. You should have 3 or 4 good serves in your arsenal. Vary up your serve. Look back before you serve to see where your opponent is. Hitting into the backhand corner is good, but have it play off the side wall before it lands. Hit one that goes to your opponents ankles – fast. Mix in a dying high-corner lob that you can’t play off the back wall. Include a fast ball wall-hugging backhand. Once you get your opponent striking out on your serve, keep varying it and feed the serves fast. Don’t give them time to get set.

2. Body Positioning. Generally, with regards to position, try to stay in the middle of the court. If you’re against a wall, hit a cross wall shot so the ball returns back to where you are – which forces your opponent to your wall. Don’t hinder the ball. If your opponent is up front in the court, drive him back with a ceiling-first shot that forces him back. If you find yourself in a corner, get out of it and return to the middle as quickly as possible. Stay in the middle.

3. Wait for the Ball. When you get a good forehand shot, don’t blow it. If you see a lane where you can hit the ball, make sure you are ACCURATE in your shot. If you’re all juiced up, you’ll hit it too hard and the ball will bounce too high, which allows your opponent to recover with a back wall return.

If the ball goes past you, no big. Turn around and play it off the back wall. Play your game, not you opponents game.

4. Find the Achilles Heel. Play a variety of shots early in the game to find your opponents weakness. But don’t experiment when you have a kill shot. Take the kill. Toy with your opponent when you can afford it.

5. Keep the Serve! You can’t score if you don’t have the serve. If you are are returning a serve, it is GAME ON time. Get the serve back at all costs. Don’t let your opponent run up a tab. How do you do this when they have a wicked serve? Learn how to read your opponents body language. Usually a server will ‘telegraph’ their move with a switch of the feet, a turn of the wrist grip, a drop of the shoulder. These little ‘reads’ will give you that extra milli-second to get a jump on that serve and get that SOB out of the server box.

6. Placement, placement, placement. Make your opponent run, scramble, dive. EVERY shot should be hard to return. That doesn’t mean it has to be a kill shot, or a hard hit ball. To place the ball where your opponent isn’t, you need to know where they are! Which leads to my next tip.

7. Watch the ball and watch your opponent. Develop your kung fu senses. If your opponent is scrambling, they are generally going to hit weak returns (except for the occasionally LUCKY kill shot!). Try to anticipate where their next shot is going.

8. And lastly, my favorite tip. If you really want to get better, play at least 2X a week, and play with someone who is better than you! My regular partner beats me pretty much every game. He is simply Ninja good. A huge arsenal of deadly serves. A wicked kill shot (forehand and backhand). And an excellent strategic player. This guy played competitively when he was younger and never stopped. BUT, I’m gaining on him and I’ve beaten him a few times. I prefer a challenge to a win. I also beat other racquetball players easily.

BUT… I don’t recommend getting obsessed and playing 5+ times a week. You’ll beat up your body and burn out your thirst for the game. Find some regulars you can play with and stick to a schedule.

Have fun, cross-train, play hard, and keep those young guys RUNNING!

Can Andropause Be Treated With Natural Supplements Like Provacyl, Invigorex and VigRx

It may be shocking to know that men do suffer from a type of menopause as they get older. Though it is nothing like the dreaded menopause that women experience, men do change as they get older. Andropause in men is caused by the body’s decline of testosterone which is the main male sex organ, HGH, the human growth hormone and various other hormones. This hormone begins naturally decreasing production after the age of 30. It can leave men depressed, confused and upset about the changes that are beginning to occur with their body.

There are some symptoms of the male form of menopause. Some men experience irritability. They become easily upset and may not want to be bothered with anything or anyone. Many men also experience a difference in their sex life. They may have a decreased sex drive or experience erectile dysfunction. Many men also complain that they begin to lose their muscle and gain additional weigh generally around the waist. This is why most men get wider and their belly has the tendency to grow larger. Other symptoms can include depression and sleep problems. Many of these symptoms are similar to those that women experience during menopause. Andropause is not nearly as popular as menopause and the symptoms are not always as visible so most men do not even realize what is happening to their body. They simply attribute the weight gain and feelings of depression to getting older. Most men do not like to admit that they are having problems so they may choose to ignore them. Andropause is also a natural process so it is not dangerous or harmful to men it is simply an inconvenience. Some men who are experiencing increasing problems may seek the help of a physician. Andropause can be detected through blood test and other profiles. Doctors will generally measure the amount of certain hormones like HGH and Testosterone present in the body.

Andropause occurs gradually in men; unlike women men can still produce children. Conceiving becomes much more difficult due to the decrease of testosterone but it is not impossible. Some doctors recommend hormone treatments. Supplements such as Provacyl are simple ways to enhance the production of HGH and rejuvenate the body. Many men love the increased energy and sexual drive that they experience simply from implementing HGH into their daily regimen. HGH therapy can greatly decrease many of the symptoms associated with Andropause. Men experience the same mood problems that plague women and increasing the amount of HGH and testosterone in the blood can help to control these changes. Diet and exercise are also very important when taking HGH supplements. This will help to make sure that the body is healthy.
Replacement therapy carries more risk than traditional HGH supplements. HGH injections have been approved for documented medical patients that possess hormone deficiencies. Men who go this route are taking a big risk. Because HGH injections are very expensive many people try to obtain them illegally. Besides being harmful to one’s health they can also lead to legal trouble. Supplements such as Provacyl, Invigorex and VigRx plus are non prescription products that are safe for everyday use. They are affordable and they will help decrease the symptoms of Andropause. It is funny to think of men suffering from menopause when they do not have a menstrual cycle but it is all a part of the aging process.

Natural Medicine Gives Hope for Women With PCOS

In today’s world, many women know what PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is, and this is due to the increasing prevalence of this condition around the world. While PCOS carry such a name due to the fact that there are many small cysts found in ovaries of women with this condition, there are also certain other symptoms and signs that might disturb their healthy life; infertility, symptoms of hormonal imbalance and irregular menstruation are few of them. These multiple small cysts disturb the hormonal cycle, which results in a serious hormonal imbalance. Also, with the time, this disease increases the risk of diabetes and heart diseases. This is why PCOS is a serious matter when it comes to women health.

Unfortunately, allopathic medicine, as well as western medicine, does not have a cure for PCOS other than the 500mg Metformin pill which is prescribed for every woman with this condition. We see that Metformin is a medication that is prescribed for two conditions; during Diabetes Mellitus type 2 and during PCOS. It is quite obvious that this medication is not very specific in treating or terminating this condition, which changes a woman starting from her appearance to her daily lifestyle.

While for many, the most effective treatment for PCOS is defined as the eating certain healthy foods, controlling the weight and doing regular exercises, in Ayurvedic medicine, we have a better definition. Actually, we have a better answer for this condition and it is a real cure that completely heals PCOS.

These medications are not artificial or synthetic. They are a complex of extracts from natural herbs, fruits, and seeds. There are several Ayurvedic herbal supplements to treat PCOS and they are;

1. Polycys

2. Cystomin DS

3. Femdays

4. Myo-inositol

5. Bacopa Medicated Ghee

6. Spirulina

7. Moringa Oleifera

Each supplement contains a blend of several herbal extracts or a single, very powerful herbal extract that has multifunctional abilities. These natural capsules participate in balancing the hormonal levels of women who suffer from PCOS. They improve and normalize the levels of LH/FSH ratio and maintain the menstrual cycle. At the same time, they also participate in maintaining other hormones of the body that are indirectly influenced by the female hormones at some level. These supplements can prevent irregular menstruation, heavy bleeding, and severe pain during menstruation while promoting the fertility. Acne, unwanted hair growth, and oily skin, which are due to increased levels of testosterone during PCOS, can also be effectively reduced with the use of this supplement.

Although there are many changes in the body to worry about during this condition, an increment of functional body stress and inflammation can also be noted. This is a result of broken balance between female and male hormones. But the herbal extracts in these Ayurvedic supplements play their natural wonders by increasing the level of female sex hormones and decreasing the levels of male sex hormones.

It might be surprising for you, how natural extracts from some well-known herb, fruits, and seeds can be the only answer we have got for PCOS so far. But it is true, and it is working. Hundreds of women already testify their health experience and their journey in getting back their normal lives just with the use of these supplements. According to them, the most amazing part is that these are natural medications and therefore, they do not have to worry about any side effects, unlike in any western medications!

Fermentable Fiber For Functional Foods

The title’s abuse of alliteration is meant to draw attention to an often ignored and misunderstood nutrient category with growing scientific evidence for significant health benefits. Fiber!

Most consumers associate fiber with bowel regularity, an important function of normal body physiology. We all know it’s healthy to be regular but there are more subtle and important roles fiber plays in our health and protection against disease.

Defining Insoluble and Soluble Fibers

Sources of dietary fiber are usually divided into categories of “insoluble” and “soluble” fibers. Both types are present in all plant foods, with varying degrees of each according to a plant’s characteristics. Insoluble refers to the inability to dissolve in water and soluble indicates a fiber source that would readily dissolve in water.

As you will soon see, those definitions are too limiting, especially because soluble fiber undergoes active metabolic processing via fermentation that yields end products with broad, significant health effects.

To conceptualize insoluble and soluble fibers, consider the segments of a plum (or prune). The plum skin is an example of an insoluble fiber source, whereas soluble fiber sources are inside the pulp. Other sources of insoluble fiber include: whole wheat, wheat or corn bran, flax seed lignans, and vegetables like carrots, celery, green beans and potato skins.

One of the most versatile sources of dietary fiber is the husk (hull) of seeds from psyllium grain (Plantago ovata), a fiber source with clinically demonstrated properties of lowering blood cholesterol when it is regularly included in a human diet. Psyllium seed husk is 34% insoluble fiber and 66% soluble fiber, providing an optimal division of both fiber types that make it a valuable food additive.

Fermentable Fiber

The American Association of Cereal Chemists defined soluble fiber this way:
“…[T]he edible parts of plants or similar carbohydrates resistant to digestion and absorption in the human small intestine with complete or partial fermentation in the large intestine”.

There are several key words in this statement that inspire analysis and comment for considering fermentable fiber. Let’s break it down.

• “…edible parts of plants…”
oThis phrase indicates that all parts of a plant we eat – skin, pulp, seeds, stems, leaves, roots – contain fiber. Both insoluble and soluble sources are in those plant components.

• “…carbohydrates…”
oComplex carbohydrates, such as long-chained sugars also called starch or polysaccharides, are excellent sources of soluble fiber.

• “…resistant to digestion and absorption in the human small intestine…”
o Foods providing nutrients are digested by enzymes and acids in the stomach and small intestine where the nutrients are released and then absorbed through the intestinal wall for transport via the blood throughout the body. A food resistant to this process is undigested, as both insoluble and soluble fibers are. They pass to the large intestine only affected by their absorption of (insoluble fiber) or dissolution in water (soluble fiber).

• “…complete or partial fermentation in the large intestine…”
o The large intestine is comprised mainly of a segment called the colon within which additional nutrient absorption occurs through the process of fermentation. Fermentation occurs by the action of colonic bacteria on the food mass, producing gases and short-chain fatty acids. It is these short-chain fatty acid—butyric, acetic, propionic, and valeric acids—that have such significant health properties.

Short-chain Fatty Acids

Short-chain fatty acids are absorbed through the intestinal wall into portal blood (from the intestine to the liver) that transports them into the general circulation. Particularly butyric acid has extensive physiological actions that promote health effects among which are:

o Stabilizing blood glucose levels by acting on pancreatic insulin release and liver control of glycogen breakdown

o Suppressing cholesterol synthesis by the liver, thereby reducing blood levels of low-density lipids (LDL cholesterol) and triglycerides responsible for atherosclerosis

o Lowering colonic pH (i.e., raise the acidity levels in the colon) which protects the colon lining from cancer polyp formation and increases absorption of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron

o Stimulating production of T helper cells, antibodies, leukocytes, splenocyte cytokines and lymph mechanisms having crucial roles in immune protection

o Increasing proliferation of colonic bacteria beneficial for intestinal health—bifidobacteria and lactobacilli (providing a probiotic value)

o Improving barrier properties of the colonic mucosal layer, inhibiting inflammatory and adhesion irritants

To summarize these effects, fermentable fibers yield the important short-chain fatty acids that affect blood glucose and lipid levels. They also improve the colonic environment and regulate immune responses.

Regulatory Guidance on Fiber Products

Americans and Canadians consume less than 50% of the dietary fiber levels required for good health. Recognizing the growing scientific evidence for physiological benefits of increased fiber intake, regulatory agencies such as the US FDA have given approvals to food products making health claims for fiber. In clinical trials to date, these fiber sources were shown to significantly reduce blood cholesterol levels and so are important to cardiovascular health.

The Soluble (fermentable) fiber sources gaining FDA approval are:

o Psyllium seed husk (7 grams per day)
o Beta-glucan from oat bran, whole oats, oatrim or rolled oats (3 grams per day)
o Beta-glucan from whole grain or dry-milled barley (3 grams per day)

Other examples of fermentable fiber sources used in functional foods and supplements include:

o Inulin
o Fructans
o Xanthan gum
o Cellulose
o Guar gum
o Oligofructose
o Oligo- or polysaccharides

Consistent intake of fermentable fiber through foods like berries and other fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, seeds and nuts is now known to reduce the risk of some of the world’s most prevalent diseases.

These diseases include:

o Obesity
o Diabetes
o High blood cholesterol
o Cardiovascular disease
o Numerous gastrointestinal disorders (constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis and colon cancer)

Treatment of Ovarian Cysts: Shrink Them Until They Disappear and Never See Them Again

Do you have a problem with ovarian cysts?  If you do, I have very good information for you that you will not hear at the doctor’s office.  Many women believe that the only treatment of ovarian cysts is with medication, usually some kind of hormonal pill or birth control pill.  Aside from the harmful side effects of this medication, it does not prevent cysts from recurring.

The other option you are usually given by your doctor is surgery to remove the cyst.  The truth is that ovarian cysts will normally disappear by themselves in time.  But they can be very painful.  So a doctor will also usually prescribe pain killers to alleviate the pain.

What if I told you that there is a much better treatment for ovarian cysts that does not require harmful medications, pain killers or surgery?  By treating the symptoms of ovarian cyst with natural remedies at home, you can not only start alleviating the pain right away in a matter of minutes, but you can also get to the root of the problem, instead of just treating the symptoms.

You can relieve the pain by placing a heating pad over your pelvic area and taking Tylenol.  Drinking water and increasing your fiber intake will also relieve your pelvic area and take off the pressure which causes pain.

Ovarian cysts are caused by an imbalance in your body usually caused by stress and out of balance hormones or insulin levels.  This is what you need to address with natural remedies to shrink existing ovarian cysts until they disappear and at the same time stop the recurrence of these cysts.

Natural treatment of ovarian cysts is simple.  There are specific kinds of diets that address these conditions and get to the root of the problem that is causing your ovarian cysts.  Adopting a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle can keep you healthy and pain free for years to come.

You Should Know Facts Before You Decide to Have Pregnancy Terminated

You're sure you're pregnant, and this was not among your plans. Now you feel fear, confusion and offense and are absolutely unaware of what to do further. It's very hard to turn out to face unplanned pregnancy. You deserve to know all facts before you make a decision. Law gives you right to be informed about such important decision. Let's learn about a new life that is developing inside of you and the abortion itself in more details. Remember, there's always positive ways in this situation.

Abortion is not a simple medical procedure. For many women this is an event, causing serious physical, emotional and spiritual changes. Majority of women, suffering from after-effects of past abortions, say that they would like to be told about all facts before they decided to have pregnancy terminated.

Remember that basic burden because of after-effects of abortion will fall on you. If your boyfriend or parents make you having your pregnancy terminated quickly, explain them that you need to think over everything. Try to involve them in the process of learning the situation, to find a positive way. And remember, you have a right to keep this pregnancy.

Probably, you treat this unplanned pregnancy as an obstacle in your life. But you should know that there're always lots of variants to solve problems. Look closer and you will see them. Remember, many women found necessary help in such situation and made positive decision.

During pregnancy your organism passes through many changes. Most popular signs of early pregnancy are insomnia, sickness, heightened susceptibility of breast, frequent urination, tiredness and sudden changes of mood.

You can trust to majority of pregnancy tests, however, you need to visit a doctor, to confirm it.

Your doctor may lead or send you to ultrasound investigation, to confirm pregnancy. This information is important in any case, regardless of whether you think about abortion or keeping pregnancy.

Signs of pregnancy:

Delay of menstruation

Sickness and retching

Increased sensitivity of breast

Frequent urination

Sudden changes of mood

Cervix of the uterus – lower opening in uterus.

Embryo – human life in the initial stage of development.

Fertilization – combination of male sperm with female ovule, forming a new human life as a result.

Fetus – developing prenatal baby with human constitution.

Full-term pregnancy – term, after which prenatal baby is ready for birth (about 40 weeks after last menstruation or 38 weeks after fertilization).

Last menstrual period – a day, when last menstruation began before fertilization. This is a date, since which calculations of pregnancy and age of prenatal baby are made.

Trimester – 3 months interval, which is used for determination of three, following one after another, stages of pregnancy: 1st trimester (1st-3rd months), 2nd trimester (4-6th months) and 3rd trimester (7-9th months).

Uterus – muscle female organ, in which prenatal baby is developing.

Beginning of life – At the moment, when fertilization takes place, the peculiarities of a baby are already present and determined, including sex, hair and eye color.

9 weeks (7 weeks since conception)

During this term a baby's heart is already beating for a whole month

16 weeks

In this age a baby responds to loud sounds

22 weeks (20 weeks since conception)

In this age you can see a baby's eyelashes

This operational abortion is carried out on early stage of pregnancy (up to 7 weeks). Muscles of cervix of the uterus are stretched with the help of metallic rods-dilators until opening is wide enough to allow abortive instruments come in uterus. Doctor attaches a special syringe to a tube (it is inserted in uterus) and a prenatal baby is evacuated.

Vacuum-aspiration with following scraping

During 6-14 weeks after last menstrual period

During this procedure a doctor opens cervix of the uterus with metallic dilators or thin sticks that are inserted hours before the procedure itself. A doctor inserts tube into uterus and attaches in to pump. A pump grinds a baby's body into parts and evacuates them from uterus. Such abortion is called Dilation with following scraping. In this case doctor can use curette (roundish knife), to scrape parts of baby's body from uterus.

Dilation and ablation

During 13-24 weeks after last menstruation

This operational abortion is carried out during second trimester of pregnancy. As a developing baby doubles in size between 11th and 12th weeks, his body is too big to be crushed by pump and pass through tube. In this case cervix of the uterus should be opened wider, than during abortion of 1st trimester. So, sticks are inserted a day or two before abortion itself. After cervix of the uterus is opened, a doctor takes out parts of baby's body with forceps. To take out a baby's skull, it is crushed with forceps beforehand.

Dilation and extraction

Since 20 weeks after last menstrual period

This procedure takes 3 days. During first two days a cervix of the uterus is dilated and a woman is given antispasmodic preparations. On third day a woman takes a medicine, provoking delivery. After delivery began, a doctor carries out ultrasonic investigation to determine the location of baby's legs. Clenching legs with forceps, a doctor takes baby out, leaving only head inside. Then, he makes a hole in a skull and lets contents out. A skull is broken and a baby is taken out from uterus completely.

"Mifegin", "Mifepristone", "RU 486В" during 4-7 weeks after last menstruation

This mediated abortion is carried out during 30-49 days after last menstrual period. As a rule, a woman should visit a doctor three times for this procedure. "Mifegin" is given to women, who return 2 days later, to take second medicine – "Misprostol". A combination of these 2 chemicals provokes to rejection and ejection of a baby from uterus.

As a result of abortion, many complications may appear: pain in lower part of belly, spasms, sickness, vomiting and liquid stool. In spite of the fact that in major cases cases there are no serious after-effects, complications may appear in about one of each 100 abortions on early term. And also in one of each 50 abortions on late term.

More serious complications are:

Intensive bleeding

Some bleeding after abortion is normal. However, there's a risk of serious bleeding, especially if the uterine artery is broken. When this happens, a woman needs blood transfusion.

During abortion bacterium can come into uterus. Result – infection. Serious infection can lead to stable high temperature during several days, which requires long hospitalization.

Incomplete abortion

Some parts of baby's body can be left in uterus. As a result, bleeding and infection may appear. For example, "RU 486" does not work in one of 20 cases.

Allergic reaction to medicines

Allergic reaction to anesthesia during abortion can lead to convulsions, heart attack and sometimes death.

Laceration of cervix

Cervix of the uterus can be cut or broken by abortive instruments.

Scars on internal membrane of uterus

Tube of suction apparatus, curette and other instruments can leave scars on uterus membrane.

Perforation of uterus

Uterus can be transfixed or broken by instruments. Risk of this complication increases with duration of pregnancy. If this happens, a serious operation, and in some cases hysterectomy (amputation of uterus) are necessary.

Damage of internals

When a hole or gap forms in uterus, this may lead to a damage of adjoining organs, such as bowls and urinary bladder.

In extreme cases complications after abortion may lead to death. Excessive bleeding, damage of organs and walls of uterus and negative reaction to anesthesia are especially dangerous. These complications happen seldom, in general 20 cases per year.

Doctors are still investigating a question about possible connection between abortion and breast cancer. However, here're several important factors:

Bearing pregnancy till childbirth creates protection against breast cancer in organism. This protection is not gained, in you make abortion.
Because of abortion a sudden decay of hormone estrogen takes place. This fact makes breast cells treated to breast cancer.
Majority of researchers indicate to a significant connection between abortion and breast cancer.

Scars and other damages as a result of abortion may lead to sterility or complications while further desired pregnancies. For those who had first pregnancy terminated, a risk of miscarriages increases.

In 1994 a magazine National Cancer Institute determined: "Among women, who become pregnant despite once, a risk of breast cancer increased 50% for those, who had pregnancy terminated".

Some women feel serious emotional stress after abortion. This may begin during first days after abortion, and sometimes many years later. Here're some factors, which passing of symptoms of Post-abortion stress depends on: age of woman, circumstances of abortion, term of pregnancy, and also religious views of woman.

People have different understanding of God. Regardless of your belief now, spiritual side of abortion describes attentiveness. If you have your pregnancy terminated, this may influence not only your mind and organism, but also attitude to God. What does God want for you in this situation? In what way does God see your prenatal baby? These are important questions, which you should think over.

Sense of guilt

Offence and malice

Thoughts of suicide

Worries during anniversaries of abortion

Sexual dysfunction

Problems in relationships

Excess alcohol

Drug addiction

Psychological changes

You have a legal right to choose. You real responsibility is to find out ways for making a positive decision.

Here're several opportunities:

Choice of keeping pregnancy is a difficult choice. But with support of kind people, lessons for parents and other possibilities many women find help for themselves and choose this way.

You can give your baby for adoption. In USA there's about 50,000 of such cases per year. This decision, based on love, often is made by women, who were thinking about abortion before.

"I could not give all the necessary things for my baby. The best decision in my life was to find a loving family for her, which could grow my daughter. She loves her family and she loves me too. Gave her the best. "

Sometimes it looks like turning out facing unplanned pregnancy is insuperably difficult. That is why it is so important to know where to go for help. Try to talk to a person, who you trust: priest, father of a baby, parents or, possible, just with a good friend.

Have You Been Injured by Lead Paint?

Lead poisoning is an extremely serious issue that can have truly catastrophic consequences for families with young children. In the majority of cases of lead poisoning, children were afflicted with the condition because they ate something that had lead paint on it, they sucked on lead paint chips, or they breathed in lead paint dust. This is due up until the year 1978, lead based paints were legal to use, and were widely used throughout the United States. This means that there is a high possibility of lead paint being in the majority of residences through the country.

While the paint can no longer be bought or used, the paint that was used prior to 1978 is now beginning to break down, and leave behind chips, dust, and other particulate matter. If ingested, the dust and chips can cause lead poisoning, especially in small children. Even small amounts of lead can cause significant health damage. Since children are smaller in size, they are more negatively affected because they then have a higher amount of lead concentrated in their bodies.

What's even more disturbing is that there have been a number of toys and children's products that have been in the news as of late, because of having high levels of lead. This is an extremely serious issue because products for children are often placed in the mouth leading to direct exposure with the substance.

There are a number of things to be on the lookout for if you suspect your child may have been harmed. The following symptoms are associated with lead poisoning: constipation; Brain injuries; A reduced IQ; A slowing of body growth; Injuries to the nervous system; Headaches; Problems with hearing; Convulsions or seizures; Mental retardation; Kidney damage; Coma; And death.

If you suspect that your child has been exposed to lead, and may have been poisoned, it is critical that you seek prompt medical attention. Medical professionals will evaluate the child to determine if the symptoms being experienced are due to lead. If the child has been poisoned, there are two main courses of treatment. The most common treatment for children is a specialized diet that helps to rid the body of lead by providing balanced nutrition with proper amounts of minerals and vitamins. If this does not help the situation, chelation therapy may be ordered. This type of therapy involves the child taking chelating agents. These agents draw the lead out of the blood stream and remove it from the body through the urine.

There are also cases where children have been poisoned with lead because of poorly maintained rental properties that they have stayed in. In these cases, the owner of the property did not keep up with general maintenance and paint may be flaking off the walls. When this is ingested or inhaled, the child may become sick. There are a number of cases of children who have been diagnosed with lead poisoning because of having lived in a location at some point during their developmental years that had lead paint.

Because of the fact that lead paint was legal up until 1978, manufacturers could not be held liable. This theory has been proven time and time again with failed lawsuits. That being said, there are still a number of people that can be held accountable should your child become poisoned with lead today.

In the event that your child was poisoned with lead from a rental property, you can possibly hold the landlord and / or any remodelers accountable. Because renovations are expensive, landlords may knowfully cut costs and hire contractors who will not properly handle the area to ensure lead paint is contained. This will give you recourse against both the landlord and the contractor. In the event that the landlord takes on the renovations him or herself, only that party will be able to be held liable.

In the event that your child was harmed because of a toy or children's product that contained lead, you still have a strong claim, and you will be able to hold the manufacturer of the product accountable for any injuries and medical expenses you have incurred as a Result of the poisoning.

If you or someone you know has suffered because of a child being poisoned by lead there are a number of different actions you can take. The best thing to do is to contact a personal injury attorney who specializes in this area of the law immediately. He or she will evaluate your claim, assess its validity, and help you determine the best way to proceed.

Since most personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis, you will not have to pay anything upfront, or worry about how to fund your claim as it progresses through the legal system. Because these cases are quiet complex, and states differ a great deal in their requirements, it is extremely important that you seek legal assistance to help protect your child and your family.

There is a variety of different types of compensation you may be able to receive for your injuries. If your child was harmed while living in a rental property, and the child has undergone a complete medical evaluation that backs up your claim, the law is quite favorable. Landlords may be required to pay for all of your medical bills, the expenses for having the property tested, the cost of having to clean up the property, as well as any future expenses for care for your child. There are even cases where the landlord will be forced to pay your rent at a new location while the case is proceeding through the system.

For children who were harmed by lead paint in children's products or toys, manufacturers will have to pay for all past, present, and future medical expenses, as well as punitive damages in many cases.

There is simply no reason for children to be harmed by lead paint in this day and age. Contact a personal injury attorney as soon as possible to help ensure your rights are properly protected.

Acute Liver Failure Symptoms, Treatments and Possible Repercussions

Acute liver failure is an uncommon and rare health disorder in which the quick weakening of liver function consequence in the condition known as coagulopathy. This type of liver failure is usually diagnosed more in young people and it has very higher rate of mortality.
Acute liver failure is a major term used for both fulminant hepatic failures as well as for subfulminant hepatic failure (or late-onset hepatic failure).Fulminant hepatic failure is the development of encephalopathy within one-and-a-half month of the onset of symptoms in a person with a formerly healthy liver. Subfulminant hepatic failure is the used to refer to those patients with liver disease for more than five month before the growth of hepatic encephalopathy.

Typical signs and symptoms of acute liver failure

  • Jaundice: Most of the time present but not always
  • Hypotension and tachycardia: This condition occur because of low systemic vascular resistance
  • Encephalopathy
  • Hematemesis or melena: This condition occur because of upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
  • Right upper quadrant tenderness: Not always present, but in some cases
  • Modification in the organ span: May be little because of hepatic necrosis or can be large because of heart diseases like heart failure, viral hepatitis, or Syndrome like Budd-Chiari
  • Cerebral edema: May lead to symbols of excessive ICP (intracranial pressure) for instance: – papilledema, hypertension and also bradycardia
  • Ascites: possibility of hepatic vein thrombosis with fast growth in the attendance of fulminant hepatic failure accompanied by stomach disorders like pain

Liver Transplant India

These are some typical symptoms of liver failure.

However, signs and symptoms of liver failure are always different in all patients. The most essential step in the evaluation of persons with acute liver failure is to recognize the cause, as some conditions require instant and particular medical treatment and affect prognosis. All sufferers with medical or laboratory indication of moderate or complex acute hepatitis must have instant diagnoses of prothrombin time (PT) and suspicious assessment of psychological condition. PT prolongation or psychological condition transforms is foundation for hospital admission.

Treatments for liver diseases are completely depend on patient present medical condition and type of disorders. Most of the time liver transplantation is suggested as it is essential to save a life of a patient suffering from liver failure. However, the most significant aspect of treatment for acute liver failure is to give excellent intensive care and support, including protection of the airway. Medicines are essential to prevent further damage and controlling disorders.

Some Major Health Problems Which All Should Be Aware Off

In planning campaign, the entire field of action, appraises its strong points and its weaknesses and then concentrates his efforts where the dangers seem greatest and the possibilities of success brightest. Let’s examine these and then direct our attention to those conditions which offer the greatest hope of improvement.

“Influenza” and “grippe” are terms used to designate acute infections of the respiratory tract in which constitutional symptoms are more pronounced than in the common cold. Although coryza frequently accompanies influenza and grippe, the latter conditions are characterized more particularly by headache, sudden onset, backache, fever, chills, prostration, sore throat, and cough. The fatality rate from influenza is low, most patients recovering in three to four days, but cough and weakness may persist for some time.

Just what is the relationship or the difference between grippe and influenza is not clear. The symptoms and physical findings are similar. In general, however, the term “grippe” is usually used to designate the relatively mild infections which occur with greater or less frequency almost every winter, while the term “influenza” is used for the more severe infections which occasionally occur in epidemic form.

Influenza, or grippe, is an acute infectious disease. At different times various germs have been considered its cause. Recent work of Andrewes, Laidlaw and Smith in England and Francis in this country has proved the cause to be a filterable virus. These workers, using filtered nasal secretions from patients with influenza, have succeeded in infecting ferrets, mice, and human volunteers. This is very important, but of even more immediate practical value is the vaccine which Francis has developed for the prevention of influenza. In general it seems to reduce the occurrence of influenza among vaccinated persons to about one-third the rate among the un-vaccinated. Unfortunately, however, the general usefulness of this vaccine is limited by the appearance of new strains of the virus against which the vaccine is ineffective.

Lacking a completely effective preventive vaccine, we must also utilize general measures to combat this disease. The virus of influenza is highly ineffective and is transmitted from person to person by means of discharges from the nose and mouth.

Measures to reduce contact with infected persons should be observed, despite the fact that they are not completely effective.

The great danger from influenza is not the disease itself but the pneumonia which so frequently complicates it. This may develop in spite of all precautions, but it is most frequent among persons who remain up and about while ill. Consequently, the most valuable advice which can be given to patients with influenza is “go to bed when you have any fever and remain there until thoroughly recovered.” Other measures are helpful but should be prescribed by a physician in accordance with the needs of the individual patients.

Pneumonia can hardly be considered a single disease, for it may be caused by various germs and it acts differently at different periods of life. Although always serious, pneumonia is rarely fatal to persons in the prime of life. In infancy and old age pneumonia is largely a terminal process; that is, it is the actual method by which death comes to a large number of individuals previously weakened by infectious disease, by injury, or by the lowered vitality characteristic of extreme youth or extreme age.

Pneumonia is an inflammatory process of the lungs which causes a portion of one or both lungs to be filled solidly with serum, red blood cells and leucocytes. The cause of pneumonia is a germ most commonly the pneumococcus, the streptococcus, or a virus, although the tubercle bacillus, the staphylococcus, etc., may occasionally be responsible.

Pneumonia caused by the streptococcus is usually secondary to some other disease, such as measles, whooping cough, or influenza, and produce small areas of inflammation scattered throughout the lungs. These areas of infection begin around small branches of the bronchi and are frequently spoken of as bronchopneumonia. The prevention of such pneumonia depends primarily upon the prevention or, failing that, the early and adequate care of the primary disease. The experience showed that the pneumonia rate with influenza was much higher among soldiers in field than among those who were promptly hospitalized. Children with measles or whooping cough should be carefully protected from all contact with persons who have colds and from conditions which will tend to lower their resistance. There is no specific serum treatment for streptococci pneumonia, but the new antibiotic drugs give excellent results in most cases. All pneumonia patients should have adequate medical and nursing care.

Pneumonia caused by the pneumococcus, of which there are a considerable number of different types, frequently involve one or two lobes of the lungs at a time and so are called “lobar pneumonia.” Bronco Pneumonia, however, also may be caused by the pneumococcus. This pneumococcic pneumonia is considered as primary pneumonia, although patients usually report having had a cold before the onset of the pneumonia. It seems that, even with virulent pneumococci present in the nose and throat, some temporary lowering of the resistance from fatigue, alcohol, chilling, malnutrition, or a cold is frequently necessary for an actual pneumonia to develop.

Pneumococci are disseminated with the nose and throat discharges of patients and of healthy carriers. In fact, during seasons of pneumonia prevalence there are many more healthy persons carrying pneumococci in their noses and throats than there are actual cases of the disease.

One attack of pneumonia does not confer a permanent immunity against subsequent attacks. On the contrary, there seems to be an increased susceptibility to the disease after one attack. Vaccines have been tried at various times for the prevention of pneumonia, but no definite value for them has as yet been established.

In the treatment of certain types of pneumococcic pneumonia, definite progress was made through the development of a specific serum treatment. If given early in the disease, this serum reduces the death rates of the particular type of pneumonia for which it is applicable by 20 to 30 per cent. Still better, however, are the results obtained with the sulfonamides, penicillin, and aureomycin. In large groups of patients these new drugs have reduced the fatality rate from pneumonia by as much as 80 to 90 per cent.

For the prevention of pneumonia one can suggest only general measures for the avoidance of anything which tends to reduce vitality, such as dissipation, loss of sleep, fatigue, overwork, worry, poor or insufficient food, alcohol, colds, and excesses of all kinds. More care than is usual should be given to acute minor respiratory infections such as colds, influenza, bronchitis and sore throats. Persons with these infections should be isolated in bed during the acute stage and stay there at least as long as there is fever. Pneumonia should be considered a communicable disease and patients with pneumonia should be isolated in order to reduce the spread of infection to others.

Cancer as a cause of death has a natural tendency to increase as more people reach the cancer age, but so rapidly have cancer deaths mounted that it seems that there may be an absolute as well as a relative increase in its rate. This increase, however, may be checked to a certain extent as more and more people present themselves for medical care at the first onset of symptoms such as the following which are, or could be, due to cancer:

1. A sore that does not heal normally, particularly about the tongue, mouth, or lips.

2. A lump or thickening, especially in the breast, lips, or tongue.

3. Bloody discharge from the nipple or abnormal bleeding from any of the body Openings.

4. Progressive change in the size or color of a mole or wart.

5. Persistent indigestion.

6. Persistent hoarseness, unexplained cough, or difficulty in swallowing.

7. Any pronounced change in usual bowel habits.

Improvements in cancer treatment are giving encouraging results. Surgery and in carefully selected cases, x-ray and radium are proving increasingly effective. Reliable clinics report that 20 to 30 per cent of the cancer cases which they treat are living and will after five years or more. In no disease is early diagnosis more vital to successful treatment.

Heart Disease

A few years ago heart disease assumed first place as a cause of death for people of all ages, and in spite of better diagnosis and treatment it is still on the increase. This is discouraging but not quite as hopeless as it might appear on first thought. Approximately 35 per cent of heart disease is due to infections involving the heart muscles and valves, 45 per cent to degenerative processes, 10 per cent to syphilis, and 10 per cent to a variety of other causes.

Rheumatic Heart Disease

Rheumatic fever, or so-called “inflammatory rheumatism,” is an infectious disease of the body as a whole but with a tendency to affect most severely the joints and the heart. Rheumatic fever contracted in childhood is responsible for 25 per cent of deaths from heart disease up to the age of fifty years. It occurs only in humans, with first attacks most common in children between five and ten years of age. It is more frequent in cooler climates and in urban communities, more in whites than in Negroes, slightly more in females than in males. There seems also to be a definite familial susceptibility to rheumatic fever and a significant relationship between its occurrence and malnutrition and poor living conditions.

Surveys indicate that approximately 1 to 5 per cent of school children have rheumatic fever at some time or another and approximately 60 per cent of children infected give evidence of heart involvement, permanent damage being most frequent to the valves. Repeated attacks occur in about half of these who have had first attacks and about one-fourth of the patients, particularly girls, develop chorea, so-called “St. Vitus’s dance,” as a complication.

The cause of rheumatic fever is a type of streptococcus. The initial attack frequently is preceded by a cold, scarlet fever, tonsillitis, or some other acute respiratory infection. Transmission is from person to person either directly or indirectly by means of hands, drinking glasses, etc. Individual susceptibility varies greatly. The majority of persons are resistant to rheumatic fever even though they get throat infections with the strain of streptococcus that cause this disease.

Efforts to control this serious and widespread disease must depend, until our knowledge of its cause is more exact, upon general measures such as isolation, the adequate care of patients during the acute stages of the disease, a properly safeguarded and regulated convalescence, attention to problems of poor housing and malnutrition, and the discovery early in life of children whose hearts have been damaged. This means the widespread careful examination of school children. Existing damage to the heart cannot be repaired but the functional condition of the heart can be determined and the children’s future lives planned with intelligent consideration of the physical limits which their damaged hearts impose.

Valvular heart disease, other than rheumatic, usually occurs as a complication of some infection such as scarlet fever, tonsillitis, pneumonia, or abscesses at the roots of teeth. This type of heart disease can be reduced; in fact, it is being materially reduced by the prevention and better care of these infections.

Degenerative Heart Disease

Less encouraging is the outlook for the heart disease which, like apoplexy and certain types of kidney trouble, is an end result of the stress, strain, and degenerative processes which have been slowly undermining the circulatory system. Over many years our most useful measure in the treatment of these diseases has been rest-rest from the stress and strain of worry, of overeating, of physical activity rest which the individual failed to provide until his body’s reserves were exhausted. The hope for a reduction of these degenerative processes is not entirely a forlorn one, since the American people seem to be taking a more sane and intelligent attitude toward living. Many are beginning to ask themselves whether the mad race for material success and “keeping up with the Joneses” is worth the price. As more and more decide that it is not, they will get more joy out of living and will postpone senescence with its disintegration of vital tissues.

Acute Respiratory Infections

The acute respiratory infections are major causes of illness at all ages but take an exceptionally heavy toll of life in infancy, Pneumonia and colds have been considered. Influenza is still unsolved. Each of these diseases is especially serious in infants and presents problems of control distinct for this age period, Exposure to respiratory infections transmitted from one person to another through the air or by means of the bands can hardly be avoided by older children and adults, but not so with infants. Infections must be carried to them. This is usually done by well-meaning parents, brothers, sisters, or other relatives. If possible, persons with “colds” should not be permitted to go into the rooms of infants, nor should they prepare or handle their food or drink. The danger of infection can be reduced also by thorough washing of the hands with soap and hot water before touching the child or its food and, if one has a cold, by covering the nose and mouth with a piece of gauze, linen, or muslin.

Diarrhea and Enteritis

This so-called “summer complaint” of children, although greatly reduced in recent years, still remains a prominent cause of death of children under ten years of age. Food and drink are responsible for most of these infections. Hence, adequate care in the selection and preparation of foods and better sanitation in their handling are all that is necessary to eliminate them. If parents will only make use of available information concerning the preparation and care of infant foods, many children’s lives can be saved.

Measles, although frequently considered trivial, is a serious disease in infancy. In fact, the possibility of death from measles is seventeen times as great if contracted by a child less than one year of age as by a child of six. This difference points the way towards, which efforts to combat measles may be directed. Complete prevention of a disease which, own in its early stages, is highly communicable, is impossible unless a specific immunizing agent against it can be developed. But postponement of the disease until school age when it is relatively without danger should be attempted and in many cases can be achieved.

The cause of measles is a tiny germ spread by discharges from the nose and throat. Early symptoms resemble an ordinary cold. It is in this stage that measles is most highly contagious. Hence, measures for the protection of infants against acute respiratory infections in general will also reduce their exposure to measles.

In addition to such general procedures there is available a specific preventive measure which can be utilized by physicians for the protection of children known to have been exposed to measles. This is the injection of blood serum, whole blood, gamma globulin, or placental extract from one who has had measles some time in the past. Blood from one of the parents may be used for this purpose.

The principle involved is to give the infant some of the protective substances which have been present in the blood of persons who have recovered from measles. If such injections are given within five days after exposure, the disease is usually prevented; if given from the fifth to the eighth day, a mild form of measles may develop but complications are rare. Injections given after the eighth day following exposure usually have little or no effect upon the course of the disease.

If a child gets a mild attack of measles after such injections, a permanent immunity will result. On the other hand, complete protection is temporary, although usually long enough to safeguard a child during a current epidemic. The following year the child will again be susceptible, but each year that an attack of measles can be postponed means a material reduction in the danger to the child.

Whooping Cough

Whooping cough, which caused the death of almost as many American children as diphtheria, measles, and scarlet fever combined, is the most distressing as well as one of the most serious of the diseases which occur in infancy. It is caused by a known germ which is present in the secretions from the nose and throat.

The early symptoms and in some cases the only symptoms, are those of a common cold. Hence, infants can be protected against infection only if they are safeguarded against exposure to colds or acute respiratory infections. Although vaccination against whooping cough was tried for some years with questionable success, recent studies with new vaccine are giving very encouraging results. Many of the vaccinated children are completely protected and the majority of those who do contract Whooping cough after vaccination have it in a much milder form than un-vaccinated children. In addition, a hyper immune serum is proving valuable both for treatment and for temporary protection. These immunizations seem to other new hope of protecting our children against one of the most dread diseases of infancy.

How You Can Support Your Immune System

Media coverage of some acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has incited fear among the American public, emptied Chinatowns all over North America and stopped much of the travel between the US, Toronto, Canada, China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. While SARS is an urgent concern for the World Health Organization, a larger worry on the horizon for the world health agency is the flu – the long awaited influenza pandemic.

The flu pandemic has historically occurred at 25-30 year intervals and its destruction has been cataclysmic. The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, for example, killed more than 40 million people worldwide (670,000 Americans alone). The most recent flu pandemic stuck 35 years ago and killed more than 4 million people. SARS, by comparison, has caused less than one thousand deaths and is much less infectious. Dr. Klaus Stohr, the head of the influenza program at the World Health Organization who is also leading the agency's fight against SARS said in a Wall Street Journal interview, "We are not prepared for the destruction of a flu pandemic … SARS will be something To smile about, "he said.

Regarding the likelihood of a major flu pandemic striking in the near future, Albert Osterhaus, a Dutch scientist involved in pandemic preparedness in Europe said in the same Wall Street article, "It's not a matter of if, but when, this will happen. Am far more scared of a flu pandemic than I am of SARS. " The flu, SARS and other communicable diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis are the twenty-first century's major heath challenges.

Overcrowding and global travel have increased the risk of diseases spreading unchecked. However, the real threat lies in a virus's ability to undergo small changes or mutations that evade people's natural immunizations or commercial vaccinations. Similarly, the widespread use of antibiotics in poultry and meat producing industries has enabled bacteria to become stronger and more resistant. According to some critics, even our current medical practices of over-prescribing antibiotics may contribute to the rise of "super-bugs"!

When these "new" microbes strike, they move quickly and wipe out victims, leaving a wide path of destruction. The West Nile and Ebola viruses, for example, both have at least a 90% mortality rate.

Do not panic. You can prevent or minimize your chance of contracting infectious diseases both at home or while traveling. Some of my recommendations are common sense:

Wash your hands frequently

Avoid touching your face

Eat well-cooked foods

Maintain a distance from someone who is sick

Avoid crowded and poor ventilated places

Sometimes you can not help but travel on airplanes, meet with someone who may appear to be sick, eat out at a restaurant or be in a crowded place. Therefore you must make sure that your immune system is functioning at a peak level. This involves avoiding activities that would weaken or deplete your immune system and engage in immune strengthening and supporting actions. Below I have issued a checklist of things to avoid:

Stress and negative emotions

Sleep deprivation

Overwork and over-exhaustion

Diet high in sugar, caffeine and refined products

Under or over-exercise

Frequent use of antibiotics, steroids or immuno-suppresant drugs

Many people who were exposed to SARS, Ebola, the West Nile virus or the flu virus never came down with the infection. The reason is simple: Their immune systems are much stronger and better equipped to fend off the viruses than those who came down with the illnesses. I have outlined below actions to strengthen your immune system:

Reduce stress and maintain equanimity

Get plenty of rest and sleep

Pace yourself at work and in your life

Eat a healthy diet consisting of high fiber, low fat and at least nine servings of vegetables and fruits each day

Moderate daily exercise including cardiovascular and light weight training

Avoid drugs and chemicals whenever possible

Take herbs and vitamins that have been shown to optimize the immune system

Extensive studies of ways to strengthen the human defenses have been carried out for centuries in China, producing a wealth of knowledge on Chinese herbal medicine and its effect on the immune system. While there is currently no cure for SARS, the Chinese Government Health Authority recently released its recommendations for preventing SARS. These recommendations consist of Chinese herbal medicine formulations as prophylactic agents against SARS. They are herbs that have been found to contain anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and have immune boosting qualities. Some are effective in increasing the white blood cell production in your body (they are your defense troops), while others increase lymphocyte activities such as killing foreign invaders, etc. Fundamental principles of Chinese medicine are, of course, "Treating disease before its occurrence", and "Strengthen the defenses to prevent sickness."

The recommendations are listed below:

Lu Gen (reed root), Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle flower), Lian Qiao (forsythia fruit), Chan Yi (cicada shell), Jiang Chan (silkworm), Bo He (peppermint), Gan Cao (licorice)

Cang Zhu (Chinese atractylodes rhizome), Bai Zhu (white atractylodes rhizome), Huang Qi (astragalus root), Fang Feng (siler root), Huo Xiang (patchouli), Sha Sheng (silver beech root), Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle flower) ), Guan Zhong (dryopteris root)

Guan Zhong (dryopteris root), Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle flower), Lian Qiao (forsythia fruit), Da Qing Ye (Isatis leaf), Zi Su (perilla leaf), Ge gen (Kudzu root), Huo Xiang (patchouli) Cang Zhu (Chinese atractylodes rhizome), Pei Lan (ornamental orchid), Tai Zi Sheng (pseudostellaria root)

Persons who jobs (health workers) or relationships may bring them into contact with someone with potential SARS are advised to take the following formula:

Da Huang (Chinese rhubarb root), Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle flower), Chai Hu (bupleuri root), Huang Qing (skullcap root), Ban Lan Gen (Isatis root), Guan Zhong (dryopteris root), Cang Shu, Yi Yi Ren (Job's tears), Huo Xiang (patchouli), Fang Feng (siler root), Gan Cao (licorice)

We can not rely on the government or a world health body to protect us from communicable diseases, nor should we. In a world grown ever more connected and fast-paced, the risks of disease transmission are greater with each passing day. However, individuals have the ability to protect themselves and loved ones by being proactive in ensuring optimal health and immune function. As frightening as the prospects of SARS and the flu pandemic are, we are far from being helpless. With the steps that I outlined above you can take minimize minimize your immune system and increase your immune functions. You do not have to be a sitting duck waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Healing Crisis Brings Both Personal and Planetary Growth

It is the nature of the human soul to constantly move forward to into greater challenges, expansion and awareness. Our soul always desires new levels of growth, whether it be here on the physical plane or through the moving into a non-physical reality.

The primary job of the human personality is that of trying to survive in physical form and get our physical and emotional needs met as best we can. Parts of our personality want to change and grow, and other parts of us want to cling to that which has worked for us in the past, even when it is no longer working.

Tension between the parts of us that want to grow and change and the parts that want to remain safe with that which is familiar is responsible for prompting or creating what is known as a 'healing crisis'.

Humanity as a whole is making an evolutionary leap in consciousness right now. This forward movement of the collective consciousness is being experienced as a healing crisis at the planetary level; As well as, at the individual or personal level.

As we evolve and expand our consciousness, both individually and collectively, old forms that were created no longer fit. These old forms must fall apart to create space for expansion and more flexible forms to support us in our new level of consciousness.

It has been my experience, and seems to be the same for others, that initially it takes a personal crisis of some kind to bring about real change and growth in our lives. . . A crisis such as a financial setback, an accident or illness, ending of a relationship, loss of a loved one. You can probably remember how a period of confusion and pain thought about by some event in your life has absolutely led to greater understanding and awareness, or possibly you new and better opportunities.

Sometimes we may be feeling comfortable and content in a pattern that is no longer vital, unaware that our soul. . . Which always welcomes and seeks forward motion. . . Is ready to guide us to a new level. Or, we may be feeling stuck and frustrated, wanting to make a change, but not quite willing or able to do so.

When this happens we unconsciously create some kind of physical, emotional, mental or spiritual crisis that shakes us out of the old and extremely takes us into the new.

These healing crises are always uncomfortable and can often bring us much pain and fear. It can feel as if our entire life is falling apart and our world is in danger of coming to an end. We may feel powerless and empty inside.

Our response to a healing crisis can vary greatly, both according to who we are and in reaction to other influences that may be affecting us at the time.

Fortunately, as we progress in the evolution of our consciousness and gain more understanding of the growth process, we usually do not have to learn through a severe crisis. We pay attention to and learn to respond to the subtler clues that the Universe gives us in telling us that it is time for a change.

Even though it usually becomes easier to surrender to and trust our various growth processes more, it can still be frightening, painful and difficult to some degree. So, we need to always have great compassion for ourselves when experiencing a healing crisis. . . And for others who perhaps are also having this same experience.

In addition to wars through, on a global level we see the healing crisis process in the changing and falling apart of political systems and institutions. All this might not seem very positive at the time it is happening. So, we must always remember that in the evolution of our consciousness, the old and outgrown system or way of being has to fall apart to make room for the new and more expansive and flexible way.

Today we are in the challenging middle stage of a healing crisis on a worldwide level. We are realizing that a lot of things in both our lives and globally no longer work for us. It is time to make changes and let go of the old form of being and doing. . . To begin to be open to what our soul wants and needs for it's growth and to help continue the evolution of consciousness in humanity!

So, you may ask. . . 'How do we do this'? 'How do we create real and positive change for ourselves and in our world'?

The simple answer to these questions is this. . . We change the world most effectively by changing our own consciousness through our own growth and transformation. We do this by changing the way we think. We do this by raising our energy vibration so that we can attract like and positive energy to us, as we project positive energy to others.

Remember, each one of us is an integral part of the collective consciousness, and at an energy level we are all connected. We each have a subtle, yet powerful, effect on those with what we come in contact and on the collective mass consciousness. When we as individuals grow in consciousness, the mass consciousness begins to shift accordingly.

The following quote which has been attributed to Mohandas Gandhi says it well: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world!"

What Exactly is Passing of Kidney Stones?

For a patient who is suffering from kidney stone, there is a treatment for passing of kidney stone. The constituents, location and the dimention of the kidney stones affects the spontaneous passage of stones. Kidney stones that are less than 4 mm in diameter and lie in the lower ureter region, have a 90% change of passing. In contrast, stones greater than 6 mm in diameter have only a 20% chance of passing spontaneously.

The Surgical Treatment contain following types of surgery for passing of kidney stones. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, which is called as ESWL. In this shock wave treatment, a particular machine is used by the doctor to send shock waves in a straight line to the kidney stone. So that waves helps to break the large stones into small pieces and then these small pieces flow and exerts from your urinary system of your body in the form of urine. Second method is percutaneous nephrolithotomy-lithotripsy; third, one is Endourology which is endoscopic removal or manipulation and Open surgery.

Medical study states that 95% of stones can be removed without an incision employing the first three surgical treatment procedures. The technique, risk, benefits, success and potential complication vary, thus I would advise you to discuss these with your urologist. ESWL is one of the most popular techniques today. It works by using shock waves to fragment your stone into small pieces (sand-like) that pass freely through the urinary tract. The urologist looks directly into the ureter during the endourologic procedures, and manipulates and retrieves the stone with small instruments. Both of these procedures are low risk, highly successful, and usually done as day surgery on an outpatient basis.

Passing of kidney stones does not form again in our urine. Without proper treatment, after a stone has passed, or surgically removed or disintegrated by ESWL, the rate of recurrence is approximately 50%. On the other hand, with proper surgical and medical treatment the recurrence rate can be reduced to 10% or less. However, in order to select proper medical management after treating urinary calculi it is imperative that the individual undergo a thorough medical evaluation of the urinary stone.

Urinary stone medical evaluations go through following stages of that patient. These stages are detailed medical history, physical examination, urine and blood test, kidney x-ray and ultrasound.

There is only possibility of kidney stones to wash out . These kidney stones can not be dissolved in our urine. Many types of of kidney stones are made up of calcium and hence they cannot be dissolved easily; however, stones caused by uric acid and cystine are easily dissolved.
There are various natural, home remedies, which are used as preventive measures for removing kidney stones. These remedies are drinking of 8 to 12 glasses of water per day. For preventing the kidney stone from formations, you have to develop a habit of taking plenty of fluid in the form of water and fruit juices. This is one of the helpful natural remedies for kidney stones. This utilization of water in acute level helps to break the stones for melting steadily with urine. A balanced diet which should be free from calcium supplement. A proper stone medication from doctor and close follow-up by your doctor.
