Every rally ends. It’s a sad fact of the market. Stocks don’t rise in a straight line. Every bull market has a bear market.

I know I’m not telling you anything that you don’t already know, but I think sometimes we forget that eventually the party is going to end, and no one wants to be stuck with the bill when it comes due.

My first experiences with the stock market were in 1999 when I started working for a big brokerage firm. There was a constant buzzy excitement in the air that left you feeling like anyone could become a millionaire in a short time period. People were constantly giving up the usual nine-to-five gigs to become day traders. Tech initial public offerings (IPOs) were rolling out almost daily and immediately shooting to triple-digit gains despite the companies having zero profits and mountains of debt.

It was like going to a frat party. Everyone was drunk on this market.

And then we reached September 2000… and everything started falling apart. The market put in new low after new low for months until we finally tagged a bottom in 2002. The S&P 500 lost 50% of its value from its highs.

The S&P 500 didn’t return to that high again until October 2007 – and then promptly lost it all again at the start of the Great Recession.

Am I saying that Wednesday’s sharp pullback is the start of a new bear market for stocks?

Nope, absolutely not.

I am saying that this week’s pullback is a friendly reminder that stocks aren’t the only game in town. Properly diversifying your portfolio can ensure that your nest egg doesn’t get mauled in the next bear market. Diversification is your edge.

Syphilis is a caused by Spirochetal bacterium treponeme pallidum, a spiral shaped organism. It is a disease that is transmitted through sexual contact. The disease passes through 5 stages. Each stage brings about a different manifestation. These changes and manifestations are the symptoms of the disease.

Primary, Secondary, Latent, Tertiary and Neurosyphilis are the stages of the disease.

1-Primary syphilis is the first stage of the disease. Acquired through sexual contact, a small lesion appears on the point of contact after about 10 to 90 days after the incidence of an unprotected sex. Often, the penis, rectum or the vagina become the point of a skin lesion. This lesion persists for about 4 to 6 weeks and generally goes unnoticed by the patients. The lesion heals by itself but can lead to a swelling in the lymph node.

2-Secondary syphilis comes to fore after the primary infection. It happens within 6 months. A symmetrical non-itchy rash is usually the beginning of the second stage. The rash, which is reddish -pink in color appears on the extremities and trunk. This rash can appear on the soles of the feet and hands. Lesions with Mucous content are also a symptom. Other common symptoms of a secondary syphilis are fever, malaise, weight loss, headache and meningismus. From this stage on a person becomes contagious as the lesions are infectious for each one harbor active treponemes.

3-Latent syphilis does not have clinical evidence. This stage is again divided into early and late latent syphilis. Syphilis which is less than 2 years from the initial infection is called early syphilis. Late latent syphilis is considered to be above 2 years. This stage does not necessarily show any symptoms. Patients in this stage may or may not proceed to other stages.

4-Tertiary stage occurs after about 10 years from early contact. It may also take upto 50 years. Characterized by gummas, which are tumor-like soft balls. They can appear anywhere in the body. These gummas or otherwise called granulomas, if left untreated can lead to Neurosyphilis. Other symptoms in this stage are loss of sensation, personality changes, hyperactiveness, emotional instability and cardiovascular congestions and complications.

5-Infection affecting the central nervous system is termed as Neurosyphilis. An infected patient can proceed to be a Neurosyphilic at any stage. This stage is common among patients infected with HIV.

Treatment: Penicillin remains the only first choice treatment available to treat any manifestation of syphilis. Oral tetracycline and doxycycline is given to patients who are allergic to penicillin. However, there use is limited and little is known about its effectiveness.

Your outlook is more positive when you are well. When there is a lack of overall wellness then the rest of your day to day experiences seem to feel more challenging; you may not be getting the most out of your life.

So, let’s look at the four key components of wellness. Physical wellness is the most tangible and finite component. You know when you don’t feel well. It may be just the common cold or it could be a serious illness. Think about a time when you weren’t physically well. It affected the rest of your life, be it for a short or an extended period of time. Work wasn’t as easy to do—if you could work at all. Day to day responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, running errands, and paying the bills felt like a huge undertaking. You probably didn’t want to see friends or do something fun with your family. Any plans that you may have had (and really been looking forward to) were, most likely, out the window. You can see how not feeling well physically runs over into every other area of life.

Things get a little fuzzier here as we talk about mental wellness. This can be somewhat of a grey area because mental health might mean different things to different people. Connection to this higher power, belief that there is something greater out there provides great comfort as we go through the trials and tribulations of living in the physical world.

Wellness, as a whole, can be defined by the quality of your life in all its aspects. You can look at each area of your life objectively and tell if you are well in that area. How to Get Rid of Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is a very common infection that can cause a baby’s skin to become sore, red, scaly, and tender. In most cases, the rash occurs because the skin is irritated by diapers that are too tight; soiled diapers that are left on for too long; or certain brands of detergent, diapers, and baby wipes.

If the rash is caused by a contact or allergic dermatitis, stop using any new soaps or detergents that may be causing the rash.

To treat a diaper rash, you can do many of the same things, but try to avoid vigorous rubbing of sore areas. A squirt bottle and then gently patting your infant dry can be less irritating. Next, after allowing him to completely dry, let him air out a little longer if possible, and put a generous amount of your favorite diaper rash cream or ointment to completely cover the rash. You can repeat this at each diaper change and see your Pediatrician if the diaper rash isn’t getting better after a few days.

The best thing is to prevent your little one from getting this in the first place, but even at our best attempts she will probably at least have one or two in her first year of life. Your goal as a mom will probably be to minimize the chances the best you can. Again, since babies have different skin types, you should probably find a diaper that is friendly to her skin as well as leaks. After this step, you will want to keep her as dry as possible and this does not mean checking to see if she is “wet” every 10 minutes. This means if you use baby wipes at every change, to pat her dry with a cotton towel or let her air dry before closing the diaper. A 12-year study of 330,000 obese men and 420,000 obese women, revealed that premature mortality rates for morbidly obese men were twice the normal: 500 percent higher for diabetics and 400 percent higher for those with digestive tract disease. In severely obese women, the mortality was also increased two fold, while in female diabetics the mortality risk increased eight fold and three fold in those with digestive tract disease. Another study of 200 men aged 23-70 years with severe clinical obesity, showed a 1200 percent increase in mortality in the 25-34 year age group and a 600 percent increase in the 35-44 year age group. Average cancer mortality rates are 150-500 percent higher in obese patients.

What Are The Health Benefits of Surgery?

According to the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), weight reduction caused by gastric reduction surgery improves longevity and reduces rates of premature death. What Are The Health Risks?

Generally speaking, the health complications of bariatric surgery divide into three classes. First, during the operation itself, patients are subject to the normal health dangers of any serious surgical procedure. Post-Operative Health Problems of Gastric Bypass

Post-operative health dangers of bypass procedures like roux-en-y or biliopancreatic diversion include: (1) Corrective operations. About 15-20 percent of bypass patients require follow-up gastrointestinal operations to correct complications (eg. hernias). These follow-up operations tend to carry higher risk of complication and death. (2) Dumping Syndrome. Caused by overeating or over-rapid eating, dumping, is not a real health danger, but symptoms (nausea, faintness, sweating and diarrhea) can be distressing. (3) Risk of nutritional deficiency. To begin with, its success depends entirely on patient compliance with post-operative guidelines. And pressures to overeat do not disappear after surgery. If patients adhere to instructions, they tend to lose weight without regain. If they “cheat”, they tend to regain most of their weight loss and may end up in a worse condition than before. Second, due to cost and availability issues, bariatric surgery can only ever treat a tiny percentage of the population who are severely obese. Third, we lack long term feedback on the success of these operations. For these reasons, it seems that bariatric surgery is no easy solution to our obesity epidemic.
