In the newer version of the Maruti Alto the rear seats are foldable giving a new dimension to the earlier version. The fabric of the seats available in the New Alto is different and definitely better than the previous one. The sticker badging has been provided at the rear side and the company logo on the boot giving a more stylized look to the car. The heater and ventilator rotary type air conditioner does a good job.
The wheel rim design has been changed for the good. The dashboard is again simple and plain but given in 2 tone colours. It has been given with a stiff chassis that makes the driving experience all the more enjoyable. The colours in which the New Alto is available are Blue Blaze, Ecru Beige, Superior White, Fire Brick Red, Silky Silver and Midnight Black. The design patterns and the colour scheme have worked magically on the car.
Engine and other specifications
The new Alto boasts of an excellent mileage of 19.7 kilometres per litre. The top speed being a good 138 kilometres the maximum power given out by the BSIV Compliant engine is 47 Bhp@ 6200 rpm although it remains to be a little 796 cc. The displacement of the engine is 3-cylinder, F8D with maximum torque of 62Nm@ 3000rpm. The 0.8 litre engine has an acceleration of 0-100 in 17.7 seconds much better than the one before.
The car is capable of seating 5 individuals at a time. The size of the tubeless tyres is 145/80 R12 and the suspension Mc Pherson Strut, Gas filled coil spring shocks. The kerb weight of the vehicle is 6900 kilograms. The New Alto has 5 manual gear system with electronic power steering and front disk and rear drum brakes.
Brake boosters are a new feature in this car. The bumpers are usual as before with being black in colour. The seat adjustment system is manual. The speedometer has a new design with a digital fuel meter. The engine immobiliser and the tail lamp cluster are new add-ons. The Catalytic Converter makes the car eco friendly.
Drawbacks of the car
Altered with new design and other features the engine is still a meagre 800 cc not being suitable for expressways. The car is still suited only for city needs. The Maruti New Alto is definitely a step ahead of its previous version, very affordable, economical and easy on maintenance car for a small happy family.
