As mentioned that severity of this disease may differ from person to person, so, doctors divide it in different categories based on the severity. For instance, a person will be having mild xeroderma pigmentosum if he will be having light brown freckles on his face only. However, a person will have moderate xeroderma pigmentosum if he will be having dark brown freckles on other parts of the body along with face.

Finally, there come people with severe xeroderma pigmentosum who will be having intense dark brown freckles along with burning on different parts of the body. In these patients, ulcers and malignancy can also be witnessed.

When it comes to treatment, patients are usually treated according to the severity of their disease. However, it is pertinent to mention that this disease can claim life if it will be overly severe. So, a patient must proceed after consulting with a doctor. There are some patients who are given certain antibiotics to reduce the irritation. Steroids and sunscreens are also used to treat some patients.

However, it is quite obvious that no treatment will work without the patient will avoid a direct exposure to sunlight. So, it is of utmost importance to stay away from sunlight as it can aggravate the situation to its extreme level.

So, the crux of the matter is that there are people who are suffering with xeroderma pigmentosum which is characterized by the hypersensitivity ultraviolet light. However, there are some treatment options available for these people, but, they will only work if a person will avoid getting in sunlight. Difficult situation to be in, is not it? It is certainly is and that's why the life is tough for people having xeroderma pigmentosum disease.
