Many people feel a jittery feeling from caffeine and learn very quickly to avoid caffeine after a certain time if they don’t want to lay awake for hours tossing and turning from insomnia.

Some people are relatively insensitive to caffeine. However, others are not. If you fall into the latter group, you need to know that 100-200 milligrams of caffeine can relieve drowsiness. And just one espresso has 200 milligrams of caffeine, a single cup of coffee has 100 milligrams of caffeine; a 12 oz can of cola has 45 milligrams; one Midol has 32 milligrams; and one Excedrin contains 85 milligrams.

This means that just one cup of coffee and two cans of cola could keep you awake.

What you can enjoy

If you are having problems sleeping, you don’t have to give up all these beverages. You just need to make sure that you drink caffeine-free drinks such as decaf coffee or tea or decaffeinated colas.

As an alternative, you can drink some of the caffeinated drinks – if you watch the amount of caffeine they contain.
