Fish should have a clear colour clean smell be moist and have springy flesh. Instead of fresh fish you can substitute frozen. Poaching, steaming, baking and broiling are all healthy ways to cook fish.

Most seafood is high in polyunsaturated fat and omega3 fatty acids are also found in salmon and cold water trout these may help prevent heart disease in some people.

Dairy products choose skimmed milk use evaporated skim milk instead of cream. Low fat cheese can replace cream cheese on a bagel or in vegetable dip and low fat yoghurt can replace sour cream in many recipes you can also try mixing low fat yoghurt with fruit for dessert.

Saturated fats salt sugar are not healthy diet food and should be kept to a minimum. Avoid fried snacks such as potato crisps and tortilla chips.

You wont always eat the perfect meal and there is nothing wrong with occasionally enjoying the foods you really want but for the most part you should try to have as healthy a diet as possible. When combined with regular exercise a healthy diet can help you maintain a healthy weight look and feel better.
