What is Toenail Fungus?
The term toenail fungus, whose medical term is onychomycosis of the nail plate and tinea of the nail, is a living organism that exists in moist, dark and warm surroundings like shoes and socks. This fungal nail infection is commonly seen in toenails but it also affects the fingernails. This is observed on toenails because they are being involved in the right habitat of that fungus.
Causes of Nail Fungus
Toenail fungus is commonly caused by;
Damp areas such as locker rooms, gym, public showers, swimming pools among others, are suitable environments where toenail fungus is being carried from.
