Disk Cleanup
Disk cleanup is performed to cleanup temporary files facilitating the operating system to run smoothly.
Windows XP
Method 1.
- Click "Start" button
- Navigate to> All Programs> accessories> System Tools> Disk Cleanup.
- Select your Operating System Drive (Typically C:)
- Tick all the boxes except for "Compress Files".
- Press OK.
Method 2.
- Click "Start" button
- Go to "My Computer".
- Right Click on Operating System Drive (Usually C:)
- Choose "Properties".
- Click on "Disk Cleanup"
- Tick all the boxes except for "Compress Files".
- Press OK.
Windows Vista, Windows 7
Method 1.
- Click "Start" button
- Go to "My Computer".
- Right Click on Operating System Drive (Usually C:)
- Choose "Properties".
- Click on "Disk Cleanup"
- Tick all the boxes except for "Compress Files".
- Press OK.
Method 2.
- Click the round button with the Windows Logo. It is located on the left bottom corner of the screen.
- Navigate to> All Programs> accessories> System Tools> Disk Cleanup.
- Select your Operating System Drive (Typically C:)
- Tick all the boxes except for "Compress Files".
- Press OK.
Disk Defragmentation
Disk defragmentation rearranges the data on the hard disk in an orderly manner enabling the data fetching action to speedup.
Method 1:
- Click 'Start'> All Programs> Accessories> System tool> Disk Defragmenter
- Select the Local drive (commonly [C:])
Method2:
- Double Click 'My Computer'> Right Click '(C:)'> Select 'Properties'> click on 'Tools'>
- 'Defragment Now'
- Select the Local drive (commonly [C:])
Error Checking
Error checker affects the structure of the file system and attempts to fix errors and recover bad sectors; corrupt data sectors on the harddisk.
Method:
- Double Click 'My Computer'> Right Click on Local drive (commonly c:)> Select 'Properties'> Click on 'Tools'> press 'Check Now'
- Tick both boxes
- Press 'Yes' when prompted with a popup message> Restart Computer
