Don’t you hate it when you can’t sleep? You lie in bed tossing and turning all through the night. You just can’t seem to relax and get comfortable. You can’t seem to switch off and drift into sleep. When you finally do fall asleep, it’s the morning.

What’s keeping you awake at night? The reasons why you can’t sleep are endless, however these are common reasons why people can’t sleep;


Yes, dreaded work. Work can be stressful, or it can seem mind numbingly boring. Too much work, an irritating boss, too little work, zero job satisfaction, bad pay, long hours, or too much pressure – all these things can drive you up the wall and keep you up at night worried, angered and wound up.


The big one. Money isn’t everything, but it does pay for a lot; your house, your car, even the basics such as food requires money. It’s no surprise it’s one of the things that we humans worry about the most. Money makes the world go round and seeing as the average person is in debt, we would all like more of it.

Isn’t it funny how you find yourself so ‘in love’ during the first year of marriage and for the following years you just can’t stand the sight of each other. Ok, I’m sure not all marriages fall through the cracks, but with a 50% divorce rate, there must be a lot of unhappily married couples who can’t sleep soundly at night.


More worry. Family problems are an expected part of family life, although sometimes it can be unpredictable. Family troubles can be something as trivial as finding out that your aunt has just divorced or as serious as a close family member falling critically ill and taken to hospital.

A new job, new house or new relationship can make a huge impact on your life. Excitement, worry, anxiety and anticipation – your emotions may be running high, no wonder you can’t sleep. Change is good, but sometimes it takes time to adapt to big changes and it may be the thing that’s keeping you awake at night.

One of the best things you can learn to do at night is to let go of your thoughts at night. So often, people can’t sleep because their own thoughts are keeping them awake. Remember that bedtime should be for sleep only. If you have anything to think about or solve, leave it until the morning when you you’ll have more energy and time.
