Internal Medicine and the Doctors Who Practice It

Internal medicine is a field in the medical profession in which the professionals diagnose and treat patients who may have adult diseases which they have studied and trained in. This field is rather broad which is why there are some sub-specialties for those who are educated and trained here. They are basically considered as primary care physicians but they can not be labeled as pediatricians and general practitioners. A good part of their education and training, which is about seven years, is dedicated to learning about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect adults.

Common Diseases

The common diseases that internists treat are quiet numerous. Their practice covers a broad aspect of the field and these diseases often fall under cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, pulmonology and many more. There are about 13 subspecialties that fall under this field and there are some that have more patients than others. Cardiologists initially study internal medicine for about seven years as the foundation of their subspecialty. There is an additional three to five years in order to focus on the education and training or the cardiologic field. Included in this field are the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease that concerns the heart, the blood vessels and the circulation of the blood around the body. Heart diseases, difficulty in breathing and chest pains are usually brought to the attention of the cardiologist.

Endocrinologists have the same foundation as all other activists; about seven years of education and training in medical school. An additional two to three years is necessary to subspecialize in this field. Those who practice here focus on the function and circulation of the human body's hormones. The endocrine system covers a large area of the human body including but not limited to tissues and all other glands common and specific to both the male and female bodies. Internal medicine practitioners who specialize in endocrinology cover most parts of the human body since these parts function with the use of hormones. Gastroenterology covers the digestive system of the human body.

There are a few major parts of this system, including but not limited to the oral cavity, the stomach and the colon. The practitioners of this subspecialty can not perform any form of surgery on the patient, especially those related to their field except they have studied surgery separately. Infectious disease is another broad field in which internists can practice with the addition of a few years into their education and training. Their education and training focus on infections that are caused by fungi, bacteria and other sources. They mainly prescribe and are knowledgeable in antibiotics which may be specific to the kinds of infections that plague the human race.

Pulmonology includes, but is not limited to the lungs and the other aspects of the respiratory system, which may include the heart. The internal medicine specialists of this field help to prevent, diagnose and treat most of the diseases found here. Pneumonia, asthma and other respiratory diseases and conditions are covered here.

The Hawk Flies Again: Homeopathy Helped Injured Bird Soar the Skies

It was not the first time our cat had brought a surprise back with her. It was not even the first time she had greeted in a live bird. Perhaps it was that she released it in the bedroom instead of the basement or living room (her usual places to set her prey loose).

I think what really surprised me the most was the size of the bird that was now flying in a panic around my bedroom.

Over the years, with two female housecats who we let outdoors a couple of hours each day, we have had our share of rabbits, mice or other rodent, and birds enter our home. Most of the time they are still alive, scared, but for the most part, unharmed. Cats who are adequately fed do not hunt for food, they hunt for fun, and so they usually do not eat the animals / birds they capture. They usually bring them to the humans as a present or to show that they had something something.

Being a Healer, I know the importance of helping these animals and birds overcome their shock before releasing them, as it is the shock that often kills them, not any injury they may have sustained.

So the bird that was currently flying around the bedroom was just the newest bird requiring my attention.

Unfortunately, that was also going to be a BIG problem. I was used to helping little sparrows that frequented our backyard and the neighbor's birdfeeders. This bird was a lot bigger-in fact, he was a predator himself. He was a hawk.

I have to admit that my close interactions with hawks have been lacking. I think the closest I ever came to one was when one was in a tree eyeing a dead bird nearby. Still, the bird was a lot farther away from the one that now stood on my dresser looking like it would attack anyone or anything that moved.

Normally I would have let the bird calm down a bit before approaching him, but it had been injured by my cat as I saw blood on the floor and walls where the hawk had flown. It was enough blood to suggest that waiting was not a good idea if I wanted him to survive.

But there were those talons. And there was that sharp, pointed beak.

And those little eyes were watching every move I made.

I closed the bedroom door to contain his flight then grabbed a small blanket to throw over him. It worked. The bird could not fly. I donned leather gloves and sunglasses (for protection) then lifted the bundle, careful to hold the feet. With my husband's help, I was able to examine the bird without injury to either of us. He had a little cut on his back and one of his wings was missing a few bigger feathers. Both wounds were bleeding.

As I found no other wounds that were of immediate concern, I gave the bird the homeopathic medicine Aconitum napellus ("Aconite") for the shock. Aconite works great to calm shock in animals as well as humans. I've used it before on traumatized animals and birds, and when responding to auto accidents.

When the remedy had calmed the bird, I cleaned the cuts then washed him the homeopathic medicine Gunpowder to stem infections. I banded his wing so it would not move for transport to the Wildlife Sanctuary. For rehab, they would do a great job.

But alas, they were closed, so the hawk was brought home and put in the bathroom for the night-it was quiet and there was not anything the hawk could hurt himself on should he wander around. He looked a LOT better than he had before he was given the homeopathics.

The next morning, the bird was doing great, but I still was not sure about the wing. I removed the bandage from his wing, lifted him up and allowed him to fly-he did not do so good-so I took him to the Sanctuary for further care.

The hawk was probably the size of my cat and I wondered how she had gotten the jump on him. Marin (my cat) had no injuries, which was surprising considering the hawk was a predator that would prey on cats. Perhaps, being that the hawk was small, he was not a threat to Marin.

The hawk was released from the Wildlife Sanctuary a few days later. The rehab assistant had been surprised that the bird had not arrived to the Sanctuary in shock, and did not develop an infection and was able to be released so quickly. I was not surprised, however, because I knew the healing abilities of homeopathy.

I wondered the stories the hawk would tell to other hawks, even joked a little, thinking the bird would probably come up with a very dangerous and exciting story, telling of the great battle that had wounded him. Had he told the truth-that he had been captured by the cat-he probably would have been teased for quite a while.

Lung Cancer Symptoms – What You Need to Know

Lung cancer is a serious health problem affecting both men and women. It is the largest cause of cancer related deaths in men and is the second cause of cancer related deaths in women. What many people might not know is that lung cancer is the result of several different things and not just from smoking tobacco alone. Whatever the causes of lung cancer, it is important for us to know what the common lung cancer symptoms are so that we you take early remedial or corrective actions to contain or cure this deadly disease. Early effective medical intervention increases the percentage of an early cure from the disease.

Lung cancer is a disease caused by uncontrolled cell growth in the lungs. Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer, accounting for about 87% of all lung cancer cases diagnosed. Cigarette smoke contains over 60 carcinogens which included the harmful and addictive nicotine. Prolonged exposure to the cigarette smoke (whether as an active or a passive smoker) can lower your body's immune systems to fight the malignant cancer growth tissue. In addition to smoking, there are other causes of this disease like radon gas from the earths crust, asbestos and various viruses like the human papillomavirus, JC virus, simian virus 40 (SV40), BK virus and cytomegalovirus.

The specific noticeable lung cancer symptoms include the dyspnea or shortness of breath, hemoptysis or coughing up blood, chronic coughing, wheezing, chest or abdominal pain, weight loss, fatigue, and difficulty in swallowing. Cancer cells may grow in our airway, obstructive airflow and cause dangerous breathing difficulties. This can result in the cancer patient getting pneumonia which in turn causes muscle weaknesses and other symptoms. Surprisingly, lung cancer is often diagnosed after the patients goes in thinking they have pneumonia.

There are also many non-specific symptoms of lung cancer as well. These symptoms include bone pain, fever and weight loss. Lung cancer often spread to other parts of the body as well, including the bone, spinal cord, liver and the brain. This act of the cancer spreading is known as metastasis.

Being one of the most common forms of cancer, it is incredibly important for us to be informed of the many lung cancer symptoms. It is also important for us to know what causes lung cancer so that we can take necessary precaution to reduce our chances of getting it. Obviously smoking is a horrible decision, not only for the cancer related reasons but also for our general health and well-being as well. But also knowing the other causes like radon gas, asbestos and the other various viruses is just as important as well. If you feel you have been exposed to any of these causes and have the lung cancer symptoms listed above, it is important that you consult your doctor early so that necessary diagnostic tests can be carried out to ascertaining your health condition.

Effective Ways To Prevent Melanoma Cancer

Melanoma

A diagnosis of skin cancer can be particularly hard to deal with. Even though melanoma is considered the most serious and deadliest form of skin cancer, there is always hope that, in the end, even aggressive cancers can be defeated. If caught early, melanomas are usually curable, but if left untreated, they can quickly spread to other parts of the body, which could lead to a very hard and almost impossible battle.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S. Recent estimates, published by the American Cancer Society, show that the rates of melanoma have been on the rise for the last three decades. May is officially National Melanoma Awareness Month, created to reduce cancer incidence through awareness. You can personally join the fight against skin cancer and reduce your risk in a number of ways.

Tips to Reduce the Risk of Melanoma

Wear sunscreen. If you limit your exposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays, you definitely stand a chance to reduce the risk of sunburn and skin damage. Broad-spectrum sunscreen is an effective means to help prevent melanoma.

– Don’t forget to use sunglasses to protect your eyes and wear a hat to shade your face from the sun. Reduce both natural sunlight and artificial sources.

– Visit a healthcare professional and ask about getting regular exams at your dermatologist. Take plenty of Vitamin D, eat nutritious foods and avoid unhealthy lifestyles.

ABCDEs

Always keep an eye out for unusual moles or growths on your skin. Dermatologists have classified melanomas according to these signs:

A – Asymmetry

Look for any moles that are asymmetrical, ragged or uneven.

B – Border

Typically, melanomas have notched or poorly defined borders.

C – Color

Multiple colors, such as brown, red, or white appear inside the lesion.

D – Diameter

Watch for any growths or moles greater than 6 millimeters in diameter.

E – Evolving

Does the mole or the lesion look different from the rest in terms of size, shape or color? If yes, visit your dermatologist immediately!

Get Involved!

You can start by helping local organizations >spread the word. Raising awareness in your community and speaking out about prevention and symptoms can be potentially life-saving activities. Resources such as brochures, wristbands, videos and webcasts could prove to be the key to fighting skin cancer.

Educate the public with brochures containing Info-graphics, a list of the risk factors and website links for newly diagnosed patients. Awareness wristbands can also really make a difference. Aside from being super cool fashion accessories, customized silicone bracelets have a number of other applications. They can be designed to create awareness among the community on various causes. As they are made of durable and non-allergenic silicone, people can wear them every day, reminding others how important it is to be united when fighting for something.

Be there for melanoma patients, and show your support with messages such as “Mel-A-No-More“, “Fighting With My Mom to Beat Melanoma“, “Stay Safe in the Sun“. See for yourself how a single product can make so much difference.

Cancer Registrars Should Clear the Decks

Cancer Registrars are busy folks, without a doubt. There is never enough budget to be fully staffed, to purchase more than the "bare bones" equipment, or to travel to national conferences to get the latest updates in data collection standards. As a result, very little innovation or creativity takes place in which to analyze the operations and make changes to increase productivity and effectiveness, or to deliver greater levels of customer service.

Quite often the registrar gets buried under a mountain of work and loses sight of what is really important and become so physically and emotionally worn out that they can not perform their best work. There is a solution, however, to "clear the decks" and free up mental and physical resources in order to focus on important tasks and remove any barriers to success.

Two tasks, or solutions, to help clear the decks are:

  1. Eliminate negativity. The words you use and think about each day can wear you down. So, retire the negative words and replace them with positive or constructive ones. For example, replace "can not" with "will not" and phrases like "we've never done that" with "let me see what we can do." Your language implies whether you are in control of your life or not. When you remove the negative words you enable the power within to add value to the cancer registry community.
  2. Finish it, turf it or delete it. Unfinished projects and tasks can wear you down. Instead of dragging around and worrying about not getting your work done, find a way to clear the deck. Schedule a half day out of your week and go through your to do list or project file. For each, decide to finish it, turf it to someone else or delete it entirely. If the task is something that you must do, then do it and stop stalling. However, if the task can be done by someone else, turf it off to a member of your cancer registry. Consider this, if a task or project has been on your list for more than a month, it may no longer be worthwhile and could be deleted.

The Cancer Registrar's to do list or project file will never be empty. So, hanging on to unnecessary work or wearing yourself down to the point that you can not serve your healthcare partners or administration is not contributing to your success and leadership as a cancer registrar. By removing negative language from your work and by focusing on a shorter, but much more concise to do list, you will be energized and motivated to do your work well and in a timely manner. Cancer Registrars are accountable for rapidly increasing responsibilities and tasks, and without a plan for clearing the decks you may jeopardize your success as a leader in the cancer registry industry and within your organization.

Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Common Ailments

Although Ayurveda has been around for thousands of years in the Indian subcontinent, the world is only now waking up to its benefits. Classified by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as one the finest ‘soft powers’ that India has to offer to the world, Ayurveda, or the ‘science of life’, presents us with ancient wisdom that is increasingly relevant in the modern world.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine followed in India that originated in the Vedic times. Today, it is considered a form of alternative therapy that emphasizes on achieving a balance between the three ‘doshas’ or elemental substances – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

When does Ayurveda Work Best?

Qualified ayurvedic doctors generally use eight methods to diagnose illnesses, including the Nadi (pulse), Mutra (urine), Mala (stool), Jihva (tongue), Shabda (speech), Sparsha (touch), Druk (vision), and Aakruti (appearance). Once the diagnosis is made, the treatment may be plant-based, with an emphasis on attaining vitality through a healthy metabolic system and good digestion.

“People should realise that if they want to take alternative medicine, they must go only to those who are authorised to prescribe them,” Dr. Vishal Rao of the Institute of Public Health told Deccan Chronicle. “Sadly, all these shops give no bill or prescription.” It is important to understand that Ayurveda isn’t magic – it only works when the illness is diagnosed and the right kind of medicines are prescribed.

While it is true that Ayurvedic preparations should only be taken on prescription, the discipline also offers a number of ‘home remedies’ for laypeople. These remedies are often simple, involving plants and herbs that are usually found in Indian kitchen. Through the wisdom of the ages, ayurveda teaches us how everyday ingredients are veritable storehouses of healing power. It advocates the incorporation of highly effective herbs into our daily diet.

Top Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Common Ailments

Allergic Rhinitis: Tulsi, or Holy Basil, is highly recommended to treat allergic rhinitis. It is known for its strong aroma and high anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger, amla (indian gooseberry), and turmeric are also recommended for relieving congestion and boosting immunity.

Tip: Boil half-a-teaspoon of freshly grated ginger in a cup of milk. Add a pinch of turmeric to this concoction and consume one or two times a day for relief from allergic rhinitis.

Hyper-acidity: Ayurveda suggests using tender coconut water to heal heartburn, and other plant-based ingredients such as cumin, coriander and fennel seeds. Chewing on spices such as cardamom and cloves is also recommended

Tip: Mix 25 grams each of roasted and powdered cumin and coriander seeds with 50 grams of sugar. Consume half-a-teaspoon three times a day for relief from hyper-acidity.

Headache: While chronic headaches need to be diagnosed and treated professionally, immediate relief from discomfort in and around the head is possible.

Tip: Make a fine paste of cinnamon powder and water, and apply it to the forehead and temples. This should help provide temporary relief from headaches. A paste of ground clay or sandalwood powder mixed with rose water can also achieve the desired effect.

Burns: Superficial first degree burns can be treated effectively using ayurvedic home remedies.

Tip: Applying Aloe vera gel on the affected area for at least 30 minutes should help reduce the burning sensation. Adding a teaspoon of turmeric powder to the gel can make it more effective in treating burns. The affected area can also be washed with rose water.

Tired Eyes: Increased screen time and lack of sleep can result in tired, itchy, burning, and watery eyes. The condition may require medical attention if irritation persists, but for minor stress, Ayurvedic remedies can work wonders.

Tip: Apply a cold compress of milk to the eyes for five to ten minutes to relieve them of stress. You could also try applying a few drops of rosewater to the eyelids. Rose water has a cooling effect that reduces tiredness in the eyes.

Back Pain: The most effective Ayurvedic treatments for low back pain involve massages using medicated oils. Consuming cumin and ginger tea once or twice a day also provides relief.

Tip: Heat mustard or sesame oil until warm. To this, add a few pods of crushed garlic and roasted garlic. Massage the oil into the affected area, followed by a warm compress.

What needs to be done:

  • Diagnose

Sex Tips: Temperature Play Methods

Looking for sex tips to spice things up? There are many ways to do so, but one that many couples are unfamiliar with is incorporating hot and cold play in the bedroom. Altering the temperature can awaken the nerve endings and circulatory system in ways that deliver mind-blowing pleasure to both partners. The following examples, along with safety tips for maintaining vaginal and penis health, can help couples get their bearings in this exciting new world of sensation play.

Cup of Water

Keeping a cup of warm (not hot!) water near the bed can boost his oral sex enjoyment. A partner can take a sip, swallow, then take another sip and hold the warm water in his/her mouth, then take the man’s penis inside. Swashing the water around his penis for a few moments then swallowing it will give him a tantalizing experience.

Breath Play

Warm, moist breath is one of the body’s most pleasurable heat sources, and making use of this natural heat during foreplay and sex can bring both partners thrilling waves of enjoyment. Gently exhale on a lover’s sensitive spots, including the stomach, neck and ears. Gently breathing on the clitoris and testicles is also encouraged.

Candle Wax

Most people have heard of dripping hot candle wax on the skin as part of sex play, and many find this frightening. For good reason – most people don’t want to actually burn their skin. The trick to safely participating in wax play is to use candles made of soy, which don’t require as much heat to melt as those made of beeswax or regular wax, so they are less likely to deliver too much heat. Also, of course, if one has very sensitive skin concerning heat, this method should be avoided.

Chilled Spoon

Chill a metal spoon for a bit in a bowl of ice or cold water, then apply the back of the spoon to a lover’s neck, nipples, stomach, etc.

Plain Old Ice

An ice cube in the hand can go a long way. Trace a line extending from one side of a lover’s neck all the way down the side of the leg, them up the inside of the leg, down the inside of the other and back up the other side of his or her body. It’s best to avoid the penis and testicles.

Ice Dildo/Hot Towel

This is one of the more hardcore forms of temperature play, which should be pursued with caution. The idea is for the man to masturbate with a warm, wet towel around his member while a woman masturbates with a chilled dildo. Then, he enters her, and the sensation change for both is out of this world.

There are several options for a chilled dildo. Some glass and metal dildos are made to be chilled, but caution should be taken. Glass that gets very cold and then undergoes a sudden temperature change, such as inside the body, can break – yikes! And cold metal may stick to a lady’s warm, wet inside – also no good. Use proper precautions. Let the glass or metal warm just a little; use lube; use condoms; always, always follow packaging instructions.

Blindfold

Any of the above techniques can be combined with one another, and all of them may be more enjoyable with a blindfold in place. This will leave a lover anticipating, eager and unaware of what sensation is to come. Sight deprivation may be most exciting when lovers are combining a form of heat play like candle wax with a form of cold play, like ice cubes or a cold spoon.

Keeping it Safe

Always check in to be sure that the skin is not being burned or losing sensation due to excessive cold or heat. Don’t freeze or heat toys that were not designed to withstand such temperatures. Ease into temperature play to get to know what one’s skin can tolerate.

Maintaining skin health on the sexual organs can’t be overrated; one’s ability to sense pleasure depends on it. Men can take an extra step in the penis care department by using a quality penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) daily. Shea butter and vitamin E keep the skin moisturized, protecting it from the frictions of a vigorous sex life. Show one’s sex life some excitement with temperature play, and one’s manhood some love with a penis health crème.

How to Treat Constipation And Get The Relief You Need

Constipation is a common ailment of the digestive system and afflicts both young and old. It is usually caused by insufficient fiber in the diet, although other factors may also contribute to this condition. Before it reaches the chronic stage and endangers your health, you should find out how to treat constipation.

A person who suffers from constipation finds it difficult to move his bowels regularly. Because food moves too slowly in his digestive tract, his feces may become hard and dry as the colon absorbs the water. This makes the process of defecation painful and could lead to bowel obstruction and indigestion. If the bowels are not evacuated, toxins can accumulate in the body and cause diseases such as rheumatism, appendicitis, cataract and cancer. Chronic constipation can also cause loss of appetite.

Lack of a healthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle are the major causes of constipation. Most people who are not regular in their bowel movement lack physical exercise and high-fiber food in their diet. Their fluid intake may not be enough, and they may have erratic eating habits or hold back their stools. Travel, medication, aging and pregnancy may also contribute to constipation.

The following tips will show you how to treat constipation:

Increase Fluid Intake

A healthy individual needs to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. If you are physically active, you may need more water. Water facilitates biological functions in the body, regulates body temperature, and removes body wastes. Drinking lots of water can tie constipation. You can also include fruit juices in your diet.

Regular Exercise

Sedentary persons are sentenced to constipation. Physical activity stimulates the circulatory and digestive system. It helps in the elimination of wastes. Yoga and breathing exercises can be used to treat constipation. Walking also brings relief if your bowel movements are not regular.

Fiber-Rich Diet

Junk foods and highly processed foods are primary causes of constipation. For a healthy digestive system, your diet must include foods that are rich in dietary fiber. This includes green leafy vegetables, apples, papaya, pineapple, oranges, oats, beans, whole grain breads, brown rice, etc. Reduce your intake of meat and white bread. Fiber adds bulk to your feces, making it easier to expel.

Monitor Your Medication

Some types of medicine can cause constipation, such as pain relief medicine. Iron supplements also cause stool hardening. Monitoring your medications and reading up on their possible side effects can help you avoid possible irregularities in bowel movement by taking the necessary steps to treat constipation.

Acupuncture: An Alternative Medicine

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine method originating in ancient China that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles that have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these point scan correction balances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians.

According to recent study, Acupuncture exercises PAG (Periaqueductal gray), RN (Raphe nuclei), RF (Reticular Formation). The human body secretes endogenous morphine, encephalin, dynorphin, that reduce pain symptoms. Acupuncture can reduce the level of inflammation of joints, tendon, fascia, ligaments.
The effectiveness of acupuncture can be applied broadly from musculoskeletal to internal diseases.

Migraine, Tension, Headaches, acute and chronic sprain of joints, neck stiffness, shoulder pain, back pain, cervical and lumbar radiculopathy, osteoarthritis, stroke rehabilitation, facial palsy, functional dyspepsia, Irritable Bowel syndrome and many more are treated effectively by acupuncture.

There are many types of acupuncture treatment.

Heated-Acupuncture
Heated-acupuncture is a variation form of acupuncture that adds heat on the top of the needle to further reduce inflammation of tendons and ligaments.
Areas that make use of heated acupuncture are all kinds of ligament injuries, tendonitis and sprained ankles, wrists, lower back, tennis elbow, golf elbow etc.

Electro-Acupuncture
Electro-Acupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. Another name is Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. By inducing low frequency electric current, the nerves and muscles are stimulated to reduce pain and to enhance rehabilitation. The most common use of electro acupuncture is for pain control and rehabilitation especially after a stroke.

Electro-Acupuncture is good for stroke rehabilitation, lumbar radiculopathy, cervical radioculopathy, and chronic pain, arthritis, etc.

Cupping therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin; practitioners believe this mobilizes blood flow in order to promote healing.

Suction is created using heat (fire) or mechanical devices (hand or electrical pumps).

Nowadays it is used to reduce local pain and stimulate muscles and ligaments.

The cycle of pain flows as below:

Painful event leads to trauma. Trauma makes infection which induces pain, and pain makes reflex muscles contract. Reflex muscle contraction creates restricted movements which in turn causes bad circulation increasing pain and spasms in the body.

Local stimulation of cupping is useful to relax these contracted muscles so before reversing the process and reducing pain. Yet again, safety and hygiene are given key importance at every treatment and disposable cups are used.

Acute and chronic sprain of ankle and lower back, neck areas, lumbar and cervical radiculopathy. Neck stiffness, shoulder pain, back pain are valued by Cupping therapy.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy using moxa, or mugwort herb.

It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China (including Tibet), Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia.

Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick.

It can be used indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or burn it on the patient's skin. Heat created by burning of moxa promot blood circulation and bowel movement.

It is used for constipation, chronic diarrhea, indigestion, functional dyspepsia, chronic gastritis, and menstrual pain, functional infertility, etc.

Infertility, functional dyspepsia, menstrual pain, pre menstruation syndrome, constipation, diarrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome are treated by Moxibustion.

My Hair Is Shedding And The Strands That Are Falling Out Are Tapered On The Ends – Why?

I get a good deal of questions from folks suffering from hair loss about shed hairs that have tapered ends. Questions about hair with tapered ends are as common as questions about shed hair with white bulbs at the root. People often look at both sides of their shed hair for clues. And many people assume that the tapered ends and the white bulb can be significant in terms of indicating a cause of hair loss or the state of your recovery.

I heard from someone who said: “I know that this is going to sound weird, but I examine many of my shed hairs. And I can’t help but notice that most of them are tapered on the end. Why is that the side away from the bulb comes to a tapered point? What does this mean? Does it mean anything in terms of why my hair is shedding or does it mean that I’m not recovering?”

There are a lot of theories on possible reasons for the tapered ends on shed hairs. One possible reason is that the hairs with the tapered ends are hairs that have not yet been trimmed or cut. When you go to your hair stylist and get a hair cut, the scissors will make the hair blunt on the ends where it has been cut. So hair that has been cut (and is likely older hair) will not be tapered but will instead be blunt.

In this case, the person writing was saying that most of what she was seeing falling out were hairs that were tapered and this brings about another set of possibilities. She would need to ask herself if it had been a very long time since she had gotten a hair cut or if it was possible that she was experiencing hair loss conditions like chronic telogen effluvium or androgenic alopecia where she was cycling through new regrowth.

You see, when you have chronic teleogen effluvium, your hair can go through a few cycles where it is shedding, trying to regrow, and then shedding again before the trigger that started the hair loss is the first place is removed so that normal hair cycles can begin again. So that is one possibility.

Another possibility is androgenic alopecia. There’s a theory that the sebum that gets built up with this condition impedes the hair as it grows and so those pronounced tapered ends are evidence of that process. Many describe these type of ends as almost having a little round bump on the end. You can literally feel these if you run your hand down the shaft of your shed hair. This looks (and feels) very different from tapered hair that has never been cut or even from the ends of hair that is being affected by telogen effluvium.

It may help to look at the length of these spent hairs. If they are short, it’s likely that they are regrowth that is either cycling through due to shedding or your scalp isn’t able to sustain its regrowth (as is often the case with androgenic alopecia.)

Finally, here’s one final consideration. Some hairs that have been affected by an autoimmune hair loss condition called alopecia areata produce what are called exclamation point hairs. These hairs also have tapered ends, but I have to tell you that this disorder is relatively rare and often, the hair loss is patchy rather than diffuse. So there can be many reasons for tapered ends including: hair that remains uncut; that is at the shedding part of its life cycle: or hair that is shedding prematurely due to different hair loss conditions.

Penis Sensitivity & Diet: They Go Together

Penis sensitivity is something most men simply take for granted. They know that when their penis is touched and stroked (whether by a partner or by themselves), their body experiences the tremendous sensations that make sex so exciting and enjoyable. Clearly, penis sensitivity is crucial for a man’s sex life and he will want to be sure he maintains excellent penis health in order to help maintain a proper level of penis sensation. And it may be that some surprising factors – such as diet – can have an impact in this area.

Penis sensitivity

Why is the penis so prone to extreme sensations anyway? For the same reason that any part of the body demonstrates a tendency to react to stimulation: nerves. The neural network runs throughout the body. Nerve endings are near the surface of the skin and they pick up stimulation – a touch on the arm, a kick in the pants, a stroking of the penis – and send a signal back to the brain that something is going on. The brain sends a signal back so that a man turns around to the touch on the arm, yells “Ouch” to the kick in the pants, and sighs and moans at the stroking of the penis.

The penis tends to have many more nerve endings per square inch than other parts of the body. Because penis skin is so thin (especially when the penis is erect and the skin is stretched out), those nerve endings are more receptive to stimulation – thus the higher degree of penis sensitivity compared to other parts of the body.

Because of that sensitivity and the pleasure it affords, men really like to have their penis fondled. Sometimes, though, when a man is in pursuit of orgasm through penile stimulation, he may find himself in situations where the all-important friction is a little too much. Perhaps he is engaging in intercourse without appropriate lubrication or he’s furiously masturbating with a grip that is extremely tight. Short term, these activities produce the desired result – a tremendous orgasm – but over time, they may “mute” the degree of sensitivity in the organ. When that happens, there’s a somewhat “deadened” sensation that can interfere with a guy’s sexual enjoyment.

Diet

So why should what a guy eats have any effect on how sensitive his penis is? Basically because what we eat has an effect on all parts of our bodies and lives – including the penis. Research has indicated that diets with vitamins B12 and E, as well as folate, help increase sensitivity all over. So if a man has reduced penis sensitivity, he may want to up his intake of these nutrients.

What foods are good for vitamins B12 and E and folate? Lots of dairy products contain B12, as do many kinds of seafood – and liver is especially high in B12. Meanwhile, spinach is a winner for both folate and vitamin E. Folate is also found in many other green vegetables, as well as citrus fruits. And vitamin E is abundant in many nuts (almonds, peanuts, pine nuts) and oils (olive oil, wheat germ oil, etc.), as well as trout and salmon.

Meanwhile, avoiding fatty foods is good for penis sensitivity. Cholesterol dampens nerve endings, so watch those high-fat foods, especially when eating red meat.

Diet can help maintain penis sensitivity, but more help may be required. That’s where regularly using a first rate penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) comes in handy. Select a crème that contains L carnitine, an amino acid with neuroprotective properties and can help restore loss of sensation. It also helps if the crème contains L-arginine, an ingredient which helps produce the nitric oxide that keeps penis blood vessels open and flowing.

The Training of the Tongue – Pleasing the Woman by Beginning Orally

The training of the tongue involves exercising it in different ways. This will help strengthen and develop the muscles needed for a quality performance. After doing these exercises regularly, you should be able to notice a difference when you are going down on your intended love interest. The training of the tongue can really help to improve sex all around.

There are many ways to increase the chances of giving the woman an orgasm. The training of the tongue can help. The one thing that I like to stress is never giving up. Many women just cannot climax through natural means of vaginal penetration. This is completely natural. There is nothing wrong with this and this is normal. I will say that you can drastically increase your chances of achieving orgasms by beginning with oral stimulation.

One thing needs to be clear first, and that is; Does she Like it? As crazy as it may seem some women do not like receiving oral sex. Just like some men do not like giving it. I personally always thought both were a little crazy but that is just not the case. Mother Nature only has one single rule and that is: There is an exception to her every rule. Just when you think, ‘Well, that means everyone,’ then it really means one will come to break the generality.

Alright, On To The Training of The Tongue Exercises that were accidentally left out of the first edition of this little article.

Exercise number one is the stretcher. Stick out your tongue as far as it will go and try to touch the bottom of your chin. Then bring it back in. Then, stick it back out and doing the same stretch only try to touch your nose this time. Then bring it back in. Do this around three times a day in sets of twenty or twenty five.

The second is the tongue push ups. Pressing the tip of your tongue to the top of your teeth and folding it back in. Just tense the muscle and release. Tense and release. The next one will be focusing on the reverse, by pressing the tip of your tongue on the bottom of your teeth folding it outward. Pushing it outward and again tighten and relax. Tense and release.

This last one involves getting yourself a lollipop. Or at least something very small that you can clench between your teeth. Once this object is firmly in place just go to town with your tongue. Try to develop that flicker movement that is usually associated with snakes. With practice you can achieve this. But once you do, do not just go straight into that just because you can. My best advice is to start with wide slow strokes. Then slowly work your way into the flicker.

Like any other skill in this world practice makes perfect. Giving your tongue a work-out will increase your endurance for longer, and more improved licking. The truth is it really works. You have nothing to lose so just give it a try.

The Training of the Tongue is really not as ridiculous as it may seem or sound at first. The tongue is, after all, a muscle and with practice it can grow resulting in maximum control. The more practice you give your tongue the better and more flexible it will become. This will make you a much better at giving your loved one oral pleasure. You may even get yourself a title of some sort, like the best mouth of the south. Who knows anything is possible right?

You Wouldn’t Know by Looking at Me – A Poem

You wouldn’t know by looking at me

what with my quiet countenance

and my calm sincerity

that I follow no God

that I follow no creed

but my own

that I rely on my own

experiences and choices

to guide me

protect me

direct me

to do what is right

and I don’t need

anyone else to tell me

what I can or cannot do

I am my own person

I cannot believe

that there could be

such suffering in this world

if there were

some sort of god

some deity

watching over me

watching us all

I cannot believe

He would let

so many innocents die

without reason

I cannot believe

that He has a plan for all of us

that we all have fates

preordained by Him

predestined by Him

without a choice

for me

or for you

I cannot believe

that such a being could exist

that such a cruel and fickle being

could control my fate

I cannot believe that…

But you wouldn’t know that

not by just looking at me

you couldn’t know that

I bare my soul every day

to this apathetic world

to this cruel world

to this indifferent world

through my pen

and my ink

and my paper

the tools of my trade

my passion

my love

that I lay my heart

on a gilded platter

from which the world feasts

day in

and day out

until I get it back

mangled and ravaged

by the scavengers

by war

by hate

by fear

by suffering

and when my bleeding heart

returns to me

I am left hurt and broken

and sorrowful

but then that thin ray of light

shines

illuminating the darkness

casting back the shadows

bringing back hope

and a promise

that there is something better-

something better…

And you wouldn’t know by looking at me

that terror gripped me

possessed me

controlled me

as I watched my baby sister

that beautiful child

wracked with tremors

as her tiny body

seized,

that such fear

lay so close to my heart

but I had hope

and hope prevailed

and the little girl

has grown so much

into such a lovely child

with that flaxen hair

and those cornflower eyes

and I am so thankful

and so proud of her

because she pulled through

a tiny survivor

but I will never forget

that awesome terror…

You wouldn’t know

couldn’t know by looking at me

that I believe strongly

in the power

of the individual

to exact change

in the nation

in the world

that knowledge is

the key to that magnificent power

so keep on learning

because no one knows everything

and we are never

too full of knowledge

because there always is

always will be

more to learn

more to teach

more to create

more to share

it goes on and on

never ending

forever

in a continuous

and amazing

cycle of knowledge…

I will never stop

trying to be the best

I can be

never stop

writing

because it is my very soul

my very essence

my very being

my very power

it is that through which

I can affect the world

change the world

But you wouldn’t know me

not by looking at me

you wouldn’t really KNOW me

but if you listen really well

and understand my words

perhaps you’ll come to know me

for who I am

as I hope

that you will strive to do

because I think

that everyone’s worth knowing,

don’t you?

Why My Clutch Is Smoking On My Go Kart

I have written several commentaries on this subject in the past, but I think it warrants rehashing, because there are two possible reasons why your clutch is smoking. I usually discuss one most likely reason, but in this article let’s talk about the two possible causes of why your clutch is smoking on your go kart.

First the fundamental understanding of go karts is needed. The drive line typically consists of a clutch driver and the driven axel sprocket. The driven axel sprocket is mounted directly to the rear driver axel which turns the drive wheels. This is a one step system, or a one ratio system.

The centrifugal clutch which is used on most go karts, uses weights that are mounted internally in the clutch that fling out and press against the clutch bell housing. The bell housing then in turn moves the sprocket driving sprocket teeth.

The typical clutch has 10 to 12 sprocket teeth. As a rule of thumb any clutch that has more than 10 to 12 sprocket teeth is going to give trouble to the drive line. Trouble as in smoking clutch.

The engagement of the weights to clutch bell housing occurs at a certain rpm. Typically this rpm is around 1800 to 2000 rpm. The engine needs to blast through this level of rpm and get the clutch pack to stick and finally engage to the walls of the clutch bell. The smoking aspect occurs when the clutch is engaging but is not fully grabbing. If the prolonged engagement occurs for too long, the clutch will start to smoke and eventually damage it to where the weights will only slip and perhaps even crack and break apart.

As I stated at the start of the article, the prolonged engagement occurs because of two possible reasons:

1.) The engine is not powerful enough to get past the engagement stage

2.) The clutch weight rpm is not high enough.

The engine not being powerful enough typically is the result of a mismatch in ratios to the rear drive wheels. So the real reason is that the ratio is not steep enough, and therefore the engine smokes the clutch.

(Another possible issue can occur and that is if the clutch is made to engage at lower rpm than the engine can grab at, the engine may not have enough power, and the engine will suddenly (more like violently) shudder and stop. It is not uncommon for the engine to be so overpowered that it rotates backwards momentarily.)

The second way the clutch will smoke is if the clutch rpm never reaches engagement speed, or it is in the neighborhood of engagement speed, but is not high enough above the engagement speed to get a lock. This will smoke the clutch and is prevalent in mismatched jackshaft systems.

The remedy for the first clutch smoking problem, is to alter the drive line so that the overall ratio is steeper. The simple method is to increase the rear sprocket diameter. Programs have been written that will estimate if you clutch will smoke or not, they typically are found on web pages or are available for purchase through various web pages. Typically what occurs is that the hp-ratio just will not be possible using the simple one ratio system. So a jack shaft needs to be added to make the ratio even steeper. In other words, making it a two ratio system.

This is where guys who install jackshafts need to be aware. The clutch typically cannot be put on the driver of the jackshaft, with a ratio in front of it. This will make the clutch rotate too slowly, even though the overall ratio is correct. So the clutch engagement rpm needs to be taken into account otherwise the clutch will smoke on the secondary jackshaft mounting position.

The bottom line is if clutch is not engaging because of either too little hp, or too slow of a clutch speed then the system need to be changed by altering the ratios either behind the clutch or in front of the clutch.
