How to Set Up A Network Printer For a Home Or Small Office

Adding a network printer to your home or small office can seem like a daunting task, especially if it is an older printer, or one that is angled towards office or home office use. This usually includes many laser printers, and larger printing stations. The task itself is usually pretty far from intimidating, and we will cover the basics of installing a wired or wireless network printer on one, or multiple computers in 3 simple steps.

Note – If your printer comes with an install disk, please use the install disk and disregard these instructions unless the disk install fails. There may be needed software on the disk that can cause a manual install to not work properly.

Step 1: Connect your printer to the network:

If your printer connects to the network with a standard cable, plug one end into the printer, and the other into your router… Wasn’t that easy?

If your printer connection wireless is, use the control panel, or configuration options of your printer to connect to the wireless network. This is usually done by going to settings, scrolling to network settings, and then choosing to turn WLAN on. After that, use the utility to search for the network you want, and enter the security key using the printers built in method.

If the printer does not have an option to configure a wireless connection internally, you will need to download software from the manufacturers website, and use a temporary USB connection to configure the wireless information.

Step 2: Configure the relevant IP addresses.

Most small networks operate fully on DHCP, and the downside of this is that if your router is rebooted, there is a chance that the new IP address will be assigned differently, and this can cause issues with the next step. The easiest way to do this is to set up a DHCP reservation for the printer, so that it is always assigned the same address.

First, print a network configuration page from the printer. You will need it’s information. Then log into your router’s control panel. This is almost always done by opening a web browser, and going to one of two possible addresses ( or If a password window pops up, you are in the right place. Consult your routers documentation for the default passwords if you do not know them.

You may need to consult your specific router’s documentation for creating a DHCP reservation, but the general process on many routers goes something like this: Click on the status tab, and then look for an option that says something like “connected devices.” In this menu, look for a button labled “DHCP clinets information” Click that, and then reference the configuration page you printed out earlier. Look for the ip address of your printer in the clients list, and choose add a DCHP reservation under the appropriate IP. Fill in the fields, and you are all set!

Step 3: Install the printer on computer(s)

The steps for this are very similar across many versions of windows. Once the network is configured, open control panel, and choose Devices and Printers (just Printers for XP). In this window, click add a new printer.

A window will pop up asking if you want to add a local printer, or a network printer… Here is the trick. You choose add a local printer, and then uncheck the box that says “automatically look for my plug and play printer.” (if the box is not there, ignore this.) The next step is to choose to create a new standard TCP/IP port, so select create a new port, and use the TCP/IP port option. When it asks for port information, input the ip address of the printer, and then click next.

A window may pop up asking about network cards and servers. Unless you are using a print server (not covered in this article) then simply click next.

A list of manufacturers and devices will then come up, and all you need to do is locate your printer to install the drivers. If your printer is not on the list, you will need to download the drivers from the manufacturer, and then use the “Have Disk” button to locate the appropriate driver. Once the driver is selected, click next and choose the options you would like in the subsequent menus. When the sharing and miscellaneous items have been completed, click finish, and if everything is set up right, aa test page should print.

If that works, you are done!

If not… Check to make sure you have the right driver file, and then check to make sure your IP information is properly set.

Anxiety & Stress Can You Live With It?

Hi! How are you feeling today?

Do you have panic or anxiety attacks? Do you suffer from broken nights' sleep, waking up in those dark hours with frightening thoughts and unspoken fears? Perhaps you are stressed out and, by early afternoon, tired out and ready to flop

Let me tell you some of my story. A few year ago things started to go wrong in my business. First, one of my minor clients went bust owed me big money and, within a month, another client went the same way, to be followed only weeks later by my big client going into receivership following me many more thousands of dollars.

The stress was unbearable. My company was unable to meet its debts payments and, to make matters worse, two of my staff were suing me for unfair cancellation. My lawyers advised me to put the company in liquidation and avoid paying the debts but that's not who I am. My father taught me never to run away from my responsibilities so, these were my debts, and I knew I had to pay them off.

The months following were hell, living on the edge, making arrangements to pay debt, stress mounting by the day. I remember wondering if it was wiser to do as my lawyer suggested but I knew that was not the answer. I was determined to pay what I owed but I also knew if I could not control my stress level it was going to destroy me and then how was I going to meet my obligations?

I knew the answers were out there and, in fact, some I already had. But there were others I needed to find and so I thread myself into research and, after several months, I finally cracked it. I knew I had found the tools I needed to control the anxious thoughts that kept me awake at night and keep stress to a minimum. In fact it helped me through the dark period of my life when all else paled in comparison. At the end of that same year, when I thought nothing could get worse, my two year old grandson was brutally killed and all that had gone before seemed like nothing.

The trauma I and my family experienced and the consequent lessons I hunted down and learned has changed me and my family. I know now there is an answer for each of us and my aim is to share the things I discovered with as many others as possible so that they too can learn the magic of living a stress-free life.

Types of Anxiety Medications

At some time or other in our lives we have all been angry or terrified about something. However, no matter what we experienced we've generally always been able to put them into perspective and get on with our lives, but there are people who are not able to let their problems go and who suffer from anxiety. These anxieties then build up until they take over the lives of the individual and ever become anxiety disorders. These disorders can be treated in a number of different ways, but the most familiar way is to use anxiety medicines.

As there are a large number of these anxieties medications available it's always best to talk with your doctor or psychiatrist first so they can recommend the best course of treatment for you. This is prudent as some of these anxiety medications can interact with other substances and produce life threatening situations.

Anxiety medications like Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or SSRIs work on raising the chemical serotonin in the brain. The dosage for SSRIs starts at a low amount and is then gradually increased until a therapeutic level is achieved. As this class of medication has only mild side effects like nausea and jitteriness it is very popular. You should inform your doctor if you experience side effects so that your dose may be adjusted or you may be given another SSRI to take.

Tricyclics are also started at a low dose and then increased gradually to gain the maximum benefit. This class of anxiety medications has been the traditional medication for treating anxiety. The side effects of tricyclics are mild, and they range from dizziness and drowsiness to dry mouth and weight gain. Should these symptoms persist or become bothersome you should let your doctor know so that your medication may be changed.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors or MAOI's are the oldest class of antidepressant drugs. You will need to be careful with this anxiety medication as there is a restrictive diet that must be followed. Certain foods and drinks that contain the chemical substance tyramine must be avoided. These include cheeses and red wines. Should there be an interaction a dangerous elevation in blood pressure or other life threatening situations may occur.

Benzodiazepines have the ability to relive the symptoms of anxiety quickly. There are a few side effects from this drug. Drowsiness and addictiveness may occur. As addiction may occur, tolerance for the drug means an increase in the dosage must be taken to gain the earlier benefits. Therefore other than panic disorder this drug is a short term anxiety medication.

Along with Beta Blockers and other such drugs that I have not mentioned, you have a multitude of anxiety medicines that you can choose from to help you control your anxiety disorder, and you should discuss all your options with your doctor to find a suitable anxiety medication for you.

Modern Running Shoes and How They Increase Risk For a Sprained Ankle

What’s wrong with the modern shoe? Designed over the last 40 years to be more comfortable and absorb the impact from your heel, they employ all kinds of gimmicks to make your running or sporting experience more comfortable. But. that has come at a very steep price. One of the primary problems has been the dramatic increase in ankle sprains. Yes, statistically, your risk of a sprained ankle sky rockets with these kinds of modern shoes.

Why? Well, first imagine someone running through a natural landscape a hundred or a thousand years ago. The landscape was uneven and filled with debris (rocks, pebbles, dirt, roots, branches, etc. Now, imagine this person running or walking with little to no support from their shoes. Usually, it was a piece of leather protecting the bottom of their feet and that was about it.

As you can imagine, their ankles would have to be extraordinarily strong in order to resist the constant twisting force placed on them every time they hit the uneven ground. Another important fact to understand is that these people walked or ran all their lives, some over 100 miles at one stretch. And they did it all without Nike airs! How?

Well, first they didn’t walk or run like we do today. The big shoe companies have tried to take away the pain of a heel strike (when you run and land on your heel). They have put all kinds of gels and air into the heel so that when you land on your heel, it doesn’t hurt. That seems good on the surface. But, what if you are not supposed to land on your heel when you run? What if that is a recipe for all kinds of problems? And it is!

In fact, if you try to run barefoot the same way you run with shoes, you will quickly be in agony. You cannot land hard on your heel and run barefoot. You will have to stop after a few steps. Instead, you will quickly learn that you have to land on the ball of your foot. The part that has much more natural padding. If you land on the outside part of the ball of your foot and gently roll inward as you run, you will feel a tremendous flow in your stride. And you will not have anywhere near the same kind of hard impact you had before.

You see, the modern running shoe gets you to run incorrectly by adding padding to the heel. That heel strike causes all kinds of problems like knee pain, Achilles pain, low back pain, ankle injuries and much more. Think about it. You are putting so much force in each step as you land. If you are landing unnaturally, your body’s natural shock absorbers do not work correctly. It won’t take long until pain is the result. And the more you run, the worse it will get.

How does this relate to sprained ankles? Simple, the more stiff a shoe it, the weaker your ankles get. The more stiff your shoes are, the less your ankles can react to uneven ground and over time, they atrophy to the point where a small trip or a stone can easily cause an ankle sprain. It happens tens of thousands of times a day!

So, what should you use? I personally love Nike Free and Vibram Five Finger shoes. They are extremely light and have extremely limited heel padding. They allow for much more unrestricted movement of the feet and ankles. Plus, they are incredibly comfortable.

If you have a sprained ankle or weak ankles and are looking for a great rehab program that requires no equipment, then try It is very simple to do and significantly increases ankle strength, flexibility as well as removing scar tissue from old injuries.

Best Ways to Utilize Dump Inserts

Gardeners, farmers, landscapers and people with trucks and trailers will be glad to have dump inserts for their vehicles. These simple, but highly useful objects are perfect for hauling and decking any kind of material; be it soil or wood, cargo or garbage! You can use it for all kinds of hauling purposes, by installing it just once onto your truck and get all hauling work done conveniently.

How It Works

A dump insert is a detachable object that you have to install onto the trailer or truck bed. It can be raised and lowered by a heavy duty 1.5KW (3HP) hydraulic pump. It has a double pivoting removable steel tailgate and can rise up to an angle of 45 degrees so that the cargo can be unloaded. These come in a variety and each of them have varied load capacities. The prices may also differ depending on the load capacity of the insert.

Generally these are installed on to trucks and trailers and there are two ways to operate them; mechanic as well as remote. With modern inserts being remote controlled, it has become an even easier solution for people who want to transport, haul and deck items easily without having to waste any money on hiring a service. Here are some of the best ways you can use these:

1. Transport and Dump Soil

For gardeners and landscapers, one of the most problematic issues is that of carrying soil and transporting them at the right place. It would be quite difficult to do that without creating a mess or without wasting time, energy and effort. With automatic dump inserts, you can transport soil and release it smoothly in your truck. No sweat, no effort, no energy wasted! Not to mention, no wasting money in hiring services.

2. Carrying and Transporting Wood

People who have a business of transporting wooden logs would find this insert to be a very beneficial asset to their trucks and trailers. Not only will it help them be more efficient in their services, but will also save on time and effort. However, you would have to be careful not to overload the insert and should use it only according to the maximum weight that it can take on. Overloading will cause it to lose its hauling ability.

3. Transporting Grass Clippings

With the dump insert, within just a few minutes, you can load it with grass clippings and wood chips and therefore conveniently deck them without having to worry about transporting garbage of the garden.

This insert is good investment, especially when you have a lot of cargo transporting to do. It does only save on time, but on monetary expense as well as man power. Before you buy, be sure to check the quality of these inserts and that you are paying a worth enough price.

Diabetes and Depression Treatments Are Providing to Be Very Effective

What is the correlation between diabetes and depression and what are the contributing factors? Or is it that diabetes causes depression, what is the link between them? These are only a few of the questions on most people's mind who might be depressed or suffering from diabetes.

What I can tell you as a person who watched his father suffer from the debilitating effect of diabetes and depression for many years and ever losing his battle, but I can not say what it is.

In my humble opinion and as a first-hand witness to the dreadful effects of diabetes, I tend to believe that depression is as a result of the person's disability to cope with the disease psychologically in a rational way.

However, this is not to say that a person can not have depression first, as they will eventually become frustrated and fed up at the fact that they are basically helpless.

My father was a proud man, independent and self-assured, but became depressed when he had to go the Doctor for treatment; also because he had to go on a diet, he had a sort of sweet tooth.

Diabetes and Depression connection

As far as the experts in the field go, they are not even sure what is the relationship between diabetes and depression, but they are certain that there is a connection.

They suggest that with 30% of diabetes patients suffering from depression, that there must be a link somewhere, investigations are still on going to find the connection.

The fact is that most illnesses will have a physiological effect on the person who is suffering, especially if they have to be constantly monitoring their food intake and having to constantly check their blood sugar levels.

This will only put them in a depressed state of mind, not to mention causing an emotional drain on their physical body, if they are suffering from both diabetes and depression.

This negative emotional state of diabetes and depression can even exact a higher price from someone suffering from diabetes, in that this emotional state can make it harder to focus on the job at hand, which is trying to control their blood sugar levels.

This paradox can even leave the person at an even great risk of developing other diabetes complications, like heart disease for example.

Diabetes and Depression have experts baffle

According to reports from Clinical Psychiatry News, one in five people suffering from type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus were suffering from some form of depression before showing symptoms of diabetes.

This realization has caused experts to ask the question of whether it was not depression that triggered the diabetes in the first place?

The Johns Hopkins University did a study of 2000 people over a 13 year period to answer this particular issue about diabetes and depression and they found were alarming to say the least.

They study showed that people who are depressed are more than two times more likely than others who are not depressed to develop diabetes mellitus.

However, contrary to this, a study carried out in Canada by researchers who had examine the health records of around 90,000 people lasting over 12 years, found that because of new diagnoses criteria for depression of diabetics and non-diabetics, the result were the same .

The conclusion of the study was quite promising, in that it suggests that because a person had type 2 diabetes mellitus, it did not mean that they were at risk of developing depression.

The Digastric Muscle and Singing

When learning how to sing better, it is critically important to remove all unnecessary tension and strain from the jaw and throat area in order to have a clear and free sounding tone. However, bad singing habits often leave us using muscles that hinder vocal freedom. One muscle in particular that causes great tension is the digastric muscle.

The digastric muscle is the small muscle located under chin that is activated when swallowing. So that you may see and understand for yourself, place your finger under your chin and swallow. As you swallow, do you feel something pushing down on your finger? If you didn’t, then you are quite lucky and do not suffer from digastric muscle tension. However, if you did feel tension and pressure on your finger (most of us do), then you suffer from some sort of digastric muscle tension. This excess tension under the chin causes singers to tighten up the jaw and raise the larynx when attempting to sing high notes, which helps give way to a very squeezed and painful sounding tone.

Since we must swallow everyday, there will be no way in which we can completely disregard the this muscle. However, we can use different practices and techniques that can remove this muscle from the singing process. Since tone is produced at the vocal cords, it becomes vitally necessary to strengthen these folds so that the burden of tone falls upon them and not the digastric muscle or outer throat muscles. While exercising the vocal cords by using scales is beneficial, it is not sufficient enough to teach the vocal cords how to function to their full capacity. Singers must work and strengthen the thin edge of the vocal cords in order to begin the process of disengaging the digastric muscle from the singing process.

The thin edge of the vocal cords can be activated by using specific vocal exercises. An excellent exercise for training the thin edge is the use of a squeaky sound on an octave scale using a staccato approach. Place you thumbs under your chin and apply pressure (not so much pressure to where it hurts, but enough pressure to keep the digastric muscle from causing extra tension) to your digastric muscle and make a squeaky, vocal fry sound. This light, squeaky sound activates the thin edge of the vocal cords and forces them to produce tone. Exercising and strengthening the thin edge is crucial when blending chest and head registers for higher notes.

Another good exercise to work out the thin edge is sticking your tongue out of your mouth (all the way) and saying “aaaah” (it will have a nasal ring to it). Practice this on an octave scale using slides between the aaah’s (so it would be written out like this: aaaah-a-a-aaah-a-a-aaaah). Sticking your tongue out of your mouth stops the digastric muscle and other throat muscles from causing tension, thus making the edges of your vocal cords do the work to produce your tone.

The digastric muscle can be a pain to disengage. You may need to practice singing with your fingers under your chin for some time to get used to the feeling of not using your digastric muscle. The good thing is that when you are used to singing without the strain of the this muscle, you will notice when it tries to creep in and “help” you out. Train yourself to sing without that pesky muscle, and your vocal cords will reward you for it.

Diabetes Insipidus – Symptoms and Causes

Diabetes insipidus symptoms and causes range from simple to spot problems to more diverse problematic things. You an never be too careful with your health and if you start seeing problems you are going to ant to make sure that things are ok. This disorder is not something that many people end up not even knowing exists, and are shocked to find out that they have this problem. Many people think there is only one kind of Diabetes or at most two different types.

Diabetes insipidus symptoms and causes need to be addressed immediately. The disorder produces an abnormal increase of urine, and nocturia or enuresis, both involuntary and embarrassing. The color of the urine is also something that becomes a concern as people with this disorder might see a colorless or watery appearance and overall concentration in a lower caliber than normal. Many people think that this is the same sickness as normal cases, but it is not true. It is simply not the true thing, and the more people that can get about this, the better things are going to be for anyone.

You should definitely get information about Diabetes insipidus symptoms and causes before you self diagnose yourself the wrong way. Only a doctor can really tell you what you are experiencing and what to do next. Some people think that Diabetes is a death sentence, but it does not have to be that way. It is also not like the normal symptoms that you see for "sugar" diabetes. In fact the easiest way to understand this disorder is by understanding that it's not sugar that you're having a problem regulating, it's water. This disorder is sometimes called "water" diabetes as it really manages the urination in your body, and has problems with the excretion.

There are several other major things to figure out in regards to understanding Diabetes insipidus symptoms and causes, and that's whether or not is a lack of vasopressin, a hormone that acts upon the kidney to reduce urine output by increasing the concentration of the urine. If you have this type of Diabetes Insipidus, you need to get a simple test done and you can really see if you have a Pituitary Gland problem. Some people do in fact lack this and many pregnant women end up garnering this problem, but if you visit your doctor regularly, you can end up getting a better life for yourself and your baby.

If you are pregnant and are noticing Diabetes insipidus symptoms and causes, you can get treatment and you can have this sort of thing disappear in four to six weeks time. However, it appears that signs and symptoms reappear in consequent pregnancies, so make sure you are in good tides with your doctor and make sure you're taken care of well. The main focus of this is definitely for you and your doctor to keep up on what is going on with your body, and that you make sure to ask a lot of questions. Doctor's are not mind readers and you need to express any concerns you may have in regards to the overall good of your health and the health of your baby.

Childhood Obesity and Overweight Children

Looking out over the yard during recess, Mrs. Nyeberg saw Adam standing apart from a group of the other children who were playing. She knew that once again Adam had been left out of their games. He was endlessly taunted about his weight by the other children and had very few friends at school. At 8 years old Adam was already 40 pounds heavier than the other children.

The Epidemic

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over 9 million children ages 6 to 19 years old are overweight or obese. In a frightening trend, this number has tripled since 1980. In this same time period, childhood obesity has doubled for preschoolers (2-5 years old) and adolescents (12-19 years).

This problem is not limited to the United States but is a growing epidemic in many countries. In a country that is apparently obsessed with weight issues we should be declaring this issue a national emergency.

Ignoring the Issue

Believing that children may surely have "baby fat" or grow out of their weight problems is a fallacy. Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults. This number increases to 80 percent if one or more parent is overweight or obese.

UCSF researcher Robert Lustig, MD, professor of clinical pediatrics at UCSF Children's Hospital notes that the Western diet is the key reason for childhood obesity.

Lustig offers that our high calorie, low fiber diets promote hormonal imbalances that encourage children to overeat. Other factors commonly attributed to the rise in obesity include frequent fast food dining, too little physical activity at school and home, larger portion sizes, and lack of sleep. Another key factor cited in numerous studies, and perhaps the most important – parents.

Parents play an important role in the growth, development, and socialization of children (Darling and Steinberg 1993). Additionally, overweight parents may pass on a combination of genetic predisposition to becoming overweight and unhealthy eating habits to their children. An Australian study showed that fathers who were permissive or disengaged were more likely to have children with a higher body mass index ( ). Obesity in children is far more than a vanity issue. Along with the rise in childhood obesity is a dramatic increase in diseases and conditions that were previously more prevalent in adults.

Health Problems

A new study revealed that obesity in adolescents is related with reduced heart functions and excess cardiac mass. Combined with the tendency to become hypertensive this is a life threatening issue.

Being overweight puts a greater strain on the still developing bodies of children. Childhood obesity puts children at greater risk for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, joint problems, sleep disorders and more. One in three obese children has excess fat in their liver. This excess fat could lead to hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver failure. Not to mention the emotional toll on children who are subjected to teasing and / or isolation by their peers.

Seek Medical Help

Your physician can determine if your child's weight is healthy. The doctor will use a growth chart to compare your child's BMI to other children of the same age and sex.Cutoff points on these growth charts, established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), help identify overweight children:

o BMI-for-age between 85th and 95th percentiles – at risk of overweight
o BMI-for-age over 95th percentile – overweight

Your doctor will also evaluate your family history, your child's calorie intake and eating habits, other health conditions, and activity level.

Dr. Kal

I was an overweight child and an obese teen. I understand the physical, emotional, and mental pain it can cause. On my blog, I will provide weight loss strategies for children and their parents. Stay tuned.

How Skype Can Help You With Your Entrance Exam

Are you scared of the cut-throat competition? Do you worry about never making it to the top rankers in an entrance exam and lagging behind? That, in fact is worrisome. Many people want to become IAS officers, or CAs or any government job seekers in that case. But let’s face it, it is handful of people from the sea of aspirants who get passing marks and after that, a filtered few get the job. If you are motivated enough to say that you can make it, well, then you probably can! But you would require the right knowledge, the inspiration and the guidance to work in the right direction. Of course, hard work plays a key role but you don’t want to waste your efforts in the wrong direction. So how do you prepare?

First off, you must see more than what the ordinary candidate sees. You need to read between the lines. So make a list of all the bestsellers for your exam’s preparation and go through each at a book shop. Now, select only one of top books, any one that you think is clearer to understand and grasp and read it thoroughly for the next days until your exam. Do not try to finish as many books as possible; this would ruin your learning process. But that, every person taking the exam would do. But what would make your preparation different and more thorough than the others? This is where the use of internet and its various resources comes in. While people would ask you to spend lesser time on the internet, we are telling you to do the exact opposite. Using Skype, YouTube and other such knowledgeable sources would help you through and make you stand out in the crowd of sluggish muggers. YouTube, you understand, but why Skype? What good would it do? Actually, a lot. There are so many people out there who you can actually connect to on Skype. For example, if you are going to sit for the IAS exam and need the help of pros, you can always contact someone who has already cleared the exam on Skype by their Skype name. While there are other ways to contact them too, but Skype plays that knot between decency and friendship. All you need to know is the Skype name of the person you want to contact and ping them respectfully on Skype, if they agree to help, you can even video chat with them and learn some important tips for the exam and the interview that would follow. This would help you score well and have someone to share your views with. Such secret recipes are all it takes to succeed. You don’t need to be a terrific learner, just keep your eyes and ears open and opportunities would knock on your door. Best of luck!

Diabetes – Part 9 – Why Do I Crave Something Sweet After Finishing A Meal?

Why do I crave something sweet after finishing a meal ??

This is a question I get asked a lot by my clients – and one that I also ask myself! Yes, I do battle with sugar cravings! So I went in search of some definite answers:

Sugar cravings often strike after a meal, despite feelings of fullness. Habits, brain chemistry and your diet's makeup cause you to crave sweets. You can learn to fight the cravings, but only after you understand why they occur.

Sugar is more addictive than Cocaine !!

It seems that our desire to load up with sugar regularly may not be the reward or energy boost we think it is. Increasingly, experts believe we can be truly addicted to sugar. French scientists in Bordeaux reported that in animal trials, rats chose sugar over cocaine (even when they were added to cocaine), and speculated that no mammals' sweet receptors are naturally adapted to the high concentrations of sweet tastes on offer in modern times. They worried, in a paper published in 2007, that the intense stimulation of these receptors by our typical 21st-century sugar-rich diets must generate a supra-normal reward signal in the brain, with the potential to override self-control mechanisms and thus to lead to addiction. So if you feel like you are craving a chocolaty treat, that craving is more than just a figure of speech. You may be one of the world's most common dependents: a sugar addict.

Another cause of post-meal sweet cravings has to do with the mood-elevating brain chemical, serotonin. When serotonin is low, feelings of depression and sadness set in. You crave something sweet because sugars and simple carbohydrates prompt the body to release serotonin, improving your mood.

Fluctuating blood sugar levels can also cause you to crave sweets after a meal. If you fail to balance macronutrients at your meals and eat primarily carbohydrates, your blood sugar levels soar-only to drop suddenly shortly after the meal. Your body seeks the "high" again, causing you to crave sugar.

Here are some more strategies that can help kick the sugar habit:

Educate yourself about the potential dangers of sugar. You will be more motivated to let go of sugar once you really understand and accept the negative effects it has on your health. "Sugar is completely non-nutritive, terribly acid-forming to our system, pro-inflammatory, fuels yeast, fungus, cancer, contributes to depression, and raises triglycerides and cholesterol. the collagen in your skin and accelerates the aging process "… Enough reasons to cut it out ??

Identify and understand your sugar triggers. These can be stress, inoxication, boredom, hunger, feeling tired, or a post-lunch dip in energy. Commit to a plan for other outlets to deal with these triggers in order to break this habitual behavior. For example, if you know that every day at 3:00 pm you look for sweet treat, tell yourself you will go for a walk or drink a herbal tea instead. If you're concerned you'll be hungry, plan for a satisfying, non-sweet snack, such as hummus with raw vegetables or plain yogurt with almonds and coconut.
Eat well. It may seem obvious, but when the body is well-nourished, it does not seek empty calories. It is also important to eat enough at breakfast and lunch so that you're not constantly craving food.

Start your day with something savory. You are more likely to trigger sugar cravings during the day if you eat something sweet for breakfast. Instead, choose the opposite, such as a vegetable omelet or bowl of soup.

Choose nutritive forms of sweet things. We may still need to satisfy the body's desire for sweet things, but we can do that with more nutrient-dense "sweet" foods such as sweet potatoes, roasted root vegetables, even cooked onions. Other foods you can use to mimic sweetness without adding sugar are spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg and vanilla. If you struggle with sugar cravings, be careful about consuming excess fresh fruit.

Commit to three days sugar-free. I normally recommend incorporating diet changes regularly, but sugar cravings are best tackled cold turkey. Many people find that after three days of no sugar, the cravings stop completely. I have tried this and it works! Beware of hidden sources of sugar in foods such as power bars, sauces and salad dressings, cereal, tomato sauce, and non-dairy milks. If you're not sure, read your labels!
Do not switch to artificial sweeteners. Do not make the mistake of swapping one poison for another. The only things more acid-forming than sugar are artificial sweeteners such as Splenda and Aspartame. Not only that, studies show that artificial sweeteners promote weight gain and, you guessed it, more sugar cravings.

Sugar is sugar. Although it may be tempting to load up on alternative, "natural" sweeteners such as maple syrup or coconut palm sugar which may be less refined, boast a few more nutrients than processed sugar, and may be slightly less acid-forming, they will still fuel any addiction you might have to sugar. Stevia, a naturally sweet, carb-free herb, seems to be one of the few natural sweeteners that does not trigger cravings.

Remove all sweets from the house. Do a full clean-out – no mercy here. If you are uncomfortable throwing food away give it away to a neighbor or co-worker, but do not rely on your willpower. Never go shopping on an empty stomach; This is when you throw all those tempting sweets and biscuits into the trolley.

Try an acupuncture addiction treatment. If you feel like you need extra support, acupuncture can be effective in two ways. It helps to naturally restore the homoeostatic state in the body, thus reducing cravings for sugar that simply mask defect issues. It also can work on the psycho-emotional aspect of addiction-in this case, sugar-by creating a sense of well-being without the need to fill any voids with sugar or other temporary mood enhancers, like alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

In conclusion; most people experience sugar cravings at some time or another. Sugar can elevate your mood and just plain tastes good. The more you include sugar in your daily routine, the harder it is to go without it. For some, sugar cravings may feel out of control.

The good news is the above points will help to curve your sweet cravings. In addition to eating a well balanced diet, nutritional supplements may help reduce your cravings for something sweet. More about these supplements in my next article.

How Long Is the Common Cold Contagious? And Other Questions About Common Cold

Among other questions that people have about the common cold. Many wonder how long is the common cold contagious and what to take to stop a common cold. The answer to "how long is a common cold contagious" is fairly simple. As long as the virus is present in nasal discharges, the cold is contagious.

Scientists believe that there is more live virus present in nasal secretions between the second and fourth days of infection, so you could say that a person is more contagious during this time period. Symptoms usually begin around the second day, but this can vary. Some people never have symptoms, even though an infection is present. Some people do not develop symptoms until the fifth day after infection. No one can explain this variation and it is one of the things that make it difficult to find what to take to stop a common cold. Some people have symptoms for only a couple of days; others for a couple of weeks. Experts advise that if symptoms are present for longer than two weeks, there may be another cause, such as allergy or a bacterial infection.

If you are interested in what to take to stop a common cold, you will find that there are hundreds of products on the market. Most of these relieve either nasal congestion or drainage. Many cause drowsiness. If you are interested in natural products that have been shown in scientific studies to reduce the duration of common cold symptoms and even prevent common cold frequency, then read on.

If you take a good daily multi-vitamin, then you are probably getting enough vitamin C, E and zinc, but when you have a cold, you may need more. Studies have shown that all of these effective immune immune system performance, possible preventing viral infections. Other studies have shown that each of these can reduce duration of cold symptoms in some people. It is difficult to evaluate results from common cold trials, because, as previously mentioned, some people recover in a short time, without treatment.

Ginseng, green tea, echinacea, andrographis paniculata and olive leaf are among the plant products that can be included in a list of what to take to stop a common cold. Ginseng and green tea increase energy and metabolism, enhancing the body's ability to absorb necessary vitamins. Studies have shown that the presence of vitamin C in the blood stream is dramatically reduced during a viral infection. It stands to reason that other vitamins are depleted more quickly, as well. Although the source of the old saying "feed a cold" is unknown, it may be that people realized that in order to recover more quickly from a cold, they needed more food. Today, we can simply increase our vitamin intake. For more information about natural products like the ones mentioned here, visit the Immune System Booster Guide .

Those who are interested in how long is the common cold contagious may be curious about how long the virus lives outside of the human body. Over 200 different viruses can cause common cold symptoms. Scientists know most about the rhinovirus, which can live for up to three hours on the skin and surfaces.

Panic Disorder Cycle

Picture a balloon that is being filled with helium. At first, it starts out with just a little air but as the air pours into it the balloon begins to swell. As it swells, the balloon is tied off at some point or it bursts. When that happens, for a few minutes you might talk a bit funny, but you will definitely have to start with another balloon.

Well, that's what panic disorder cycle is like. You start out at one point, usually with thinking about something that may not have anything to do with what you want to think about. This leads to fear, and once you have fear, it leads to anxiety.

Before you know it, your panic disorder cycle has started and there is no turning back until you let the air out of the balloon. This is a short version of what really happens but you get the picture.

The question is, "what do you want to do with it?" Do you want to continue to have panic disorder cycle or do you want to figure out how to stop it? For many people therapy is the answer but this may mean medication. There are other ways to stop the panic disorder cycle.

Some people find release from panic disorder cycle with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In fact, some experts say this is the only therapy that will work. However, you do not have to go to therapy necessarily to know what to do. We'll give you a few things here to help your panic disorder cycle.

Changing your behavior is one of the first things that would be looked at in therapy. You can do some of this on your own. This means basically staying in the now moment. When you feel a panic disorder cycle coming on, pay attention. What triggered the beginning? These triggers are very important to your recovery.

Once you know the triggers, find other behaviors you can use instead of going into the panic attack. As an example, take some deep breaths. Instead of allowing your body to take quick short breaths, train yourself to take long slow breaths.

This will help your body settle down so the panic disorder cycle will not start. When you get a thought like "I'm going to die" change it to something like "I can handle this." Keep taking the breaths until you are calmed down.

5 Mistakes in Supporting an Addict With Bipolar Disorder

If you are supporting a loved one in active addiction who also has bipolar disorder, then you have your hands full. However, you may be making some of the mistakes that others in your position are also making.

1. They accept unacceptable behavior
You can show support for your loved one without showing support for their addiction and also be understanding without accepting unacceptable bipolar behavior.

You need to set boundaries between what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior – what will be tolerated and not tolerated. Then you need to stick to those boundaries. Your loved one should understand that you are there for support but that you are not a doormat, either. You want to help him and be there for him, but he must treat you with respect.

2. They take things personally
Always remember not to take things personally. When your loved one says painful things, remember that it is the addiction and / or the bipolar disorder talking, and not your loved one. Let it bounce off you, as much as you are able. Try remembering what your loved one was like before he became an addict or was in a bipolar episode. Hold on the thought that he will be that person again.

3. They enable their loved one's addiction
Be careful not to enable your loved one's addiction and / or poor bipolar behavior. This can take the form of bailing your loved one out of jail, offering housing or paying his rent, buying his gas, etc. Unfortunately, this way your loved one keeps from hiring the bottom he needs to hit before he will get help for his addiction.

4. They become co-dependent
A codependent relationship usually occurs when the supporter constantly sacrifices their own needs for the needs of their loved one. This may begin as enabling – doing for the other person what they should do for themselves – or trying to "fix" them.

Do not allow yourself to become codependent. You are a supporter, not an enabler. You can not allow your loved one to get away with things like manipulation, saying he can not do things when he can, and not taking responsibility for his own addiction and bipolar disorder.

5. They let their guard down
If your loved one has been in recovery for awhile and is doing well, you may let your guard down, thinking that he will not relapse. Be careful, as you may become complacent, and he may become over-confident. You must always stay consistent and on guard, no matter how long it's been, because active addiction and / or bipolar episodes can always come back.
