Needless to say, my friend was not a happy bunny during any of these times, except she tells me, when she lost all cravings and ate normally.

  5. People do not realize that they have a choice in the way that they feel. Living from a place of 'victory' instead of 'victim'. The best way that you can approach is to keep in mind that it is not likely to be a pleasant experience and be ready with some good strategies.

Here are some tips for successful cold calling:

Prepare a good list of targeted prospects. A more organized approach yields higher potential success of your effort. You can do this by using a targeted prospect list rather than a random approach. Think of the activity as a networking process. You can start building your network by calling existing clients and asking them for names of their friends who may need your product / service.

This approach yields three advantages. First, it expands your prospect list. Then, it gives you an introduction when you call the prospect. Lastly, it maintains your relationship with current clients. And, who knows, there may be new business opportunities your existing clients want to discuss, so the call by itself would be fruitful.

Other sources of prospects may include Yellow Page listings, Internet search engines, industry publication mailing lists and advertisements, and mailing lists of conventions or trade shows.

Set your own objectives. For this to be a successful activity, you have to set your own goals. Keep in mind that you are playing the law of surprises – sooner or later, you'll strike gold. Set a schedule (day / time) your calls. Your aim must be to be able to speak directly with the person who makes or influences the decision to buy.

Define your successful result. To avoid getting downhearted, remember success in cold calling is not measured by an immediate deal. Rather, the goal really is to start a new relationship with a prospect, who will want your product / service at some time. 'Some time' may be now or a month from now.

The best outcome from such a call is setting up a meeting with the prospect. Even if the prospect does not have an immediate project in mind, try to schedule a face-to-face meeting to present your product / service and distribute your marketing materials. If this is not possible, the next-best output is where the prospect turns down your offer but refers you to others who can use your product / service.

Your time is precious, so dial another number without replacing the handset as soon as you complete your call. Putting down the phone may cause you to lose your rhythm and to get distracted by a less intimidating activity.

Employ the aid of a script. It's not unusual to feel nervous during your calls. For this reason, a good prewritten script would be a big help. The script keeps you away from stumbling when talking to your client. You can also maximize, and avoid wasting, the little time a person on the other line is giving to you. An Effective Treatment to Help Patients Cope With the Neurological Disorder Dystonia

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder characterized by sustained muscle contractions, abnormal muscle tension, and involuntary, painful muscle contractions. Statistics indicate that over 300,000 people in North America are affected by this disorder that is the third most common movement disorder after Parkinson's disease and nerve tremors. These involuntary and sometimes painful movements may affect either a single muscle or an entire group of muscles like those in the arms, neck, or legs or even the entire body. People afflicted with dystonia usually have no associated psychiatric disorders and they have normal intelligence.

A few preclinical studies and case reports investigating the use of medical cannabis to control the symptoms of dystonia, primarily these twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures are now available in recently published scientific literature. The July issue of The Journal of Pain and Symptom Management carries a 2002 case study that reports an improvement in the symptoms of dystonia after a 42 year old patient suffering from chronic pain smoked medical marijuana. It was reported by investigators and medical researchers that the pain score (subjectively) dropped from a high 9 to nothing (considering a 0-10 analog visual scale of pain) after the patient inhaled MMJ. Additionally, the subject did not need additional analgesic medication for the next forty eight hours.

Investigators concluded that there were no existing treatment plan or intervention to date that has produced such an overall dramatic improvement in the condition of patient's like these. The same results were obtained in a case study that was conducted on another 25 year old patient who was suffering from Wilson's disease that triggered generalized dystonia. In the August 2004 issue of the journal Movement Disorders, an Argentinian research team documented their findings of the patient exhibiting significant clinical improvement after the intervention of medical cannabis. In the same year, a team of German researchers at the Hannover Medical School administrated 5 mg of the active cannabinoid in medical marijuana called THC to a 38-year-old professional pianist.

The musician's dystonia was successfully treated following the administration of a single dose of THC in this placebo controlled trial. Researchers reported that prior to cannabinoid treatment; the patient was unresponsive to standard medications and therefore, was no longer even performing publicly. However, there was a clear improvement of motor control in the affected hand of the subject and the patient was also able to play technically demanding and complex literature just two hours after the intake of THC. The subject was not able the play the same pieces of music before the treatment process. These results clearly indicate that medical cannabis significantly alleviates the symptoms of this type of dystonia called focal dystonia.

In 2002, a placebo-controlled randomized study that investigated the use of Cesamet (a synthetic oral cannabinoid naboline) in 15 patients afflicted with segmental primary and generalized dystonia showed no significant improvement in their condition. Investigators concluded that this opportunity may be dose related and it has nothing to do with the efficacy of medical cannabis in helping patients cope with their dystonia symptoms. High doses of the natural non-psychoactive CBD (cannabinoid cannabidiol) and synthetic cannabinoids are known to moderate the progress of the disease in animals as indicated by at least one recent preclinical trial and further investigation regarding the use of cannabis and cannabinoids in humans is under .

Exercise and Diabetes During Pregnancy

Current research from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, shows that women that were more physically active and practiced on a regular basis prior to becoming pregnant and while pregnant are less likely to develop diabetes during their pregnancy.

Gestational Diabetes

Women in the study of over 21,765 individuals that were physically active prior to the pregnancy were 23 percent less likely to develop gestational diabetes. This number is significant in the control and prevention of this condition. In addition to controlling the gestational diabetes there are other health benefits for both the mother and the baby that are identified with a safe and effective exercise program prior to and during pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes occurs in approximately 4% of all pregnant women, and will result in over 135, 000 reported cases of this condition per year. It is not exactly known what causes gestational diabetes, but it is believed that the hormones produced by the placenta prevent the mother's body from being able to absorb insulin. This insulin resistance may cause the mother to need up to three times as much insulin to have the same metabolic functioning.

Gestational diabetes usually goes away after the baby is born, but once you have had gestational diabetes you have a 2 in 3 chance of having it again in future pregnancies. Gestational diabetes is also a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes later in life.

Effects on the baby

Gestational diabetes begins late in the pregnancy, after the baby's body has already formed. The effects of the high levels of insulin in the mother are directly related to the way that the baby begins to produce insulin. Many babies will develop macrosomia, which is a condition that causes the baby to store all the extra sugar as fat, and leads to birthing problems, low blood glucose levels and respiratory problems.

How much exercise is needed?

Women that exercise vigorously by walking very briskly, cycling, swimming or other strenuous physical activity were the least likely to develop gestational diabetes. The next level included women that walked briskly for at least 30 minutes per day or climbed the equivalent of 15 flights of stairs per day. This group was 34 percent less likely to develop gestational diabetes than those that walked at an easy pace for the same amount of time. The women tested all had at least one pregnancy between 1990 and 1998. During this time there were 1492 cases of gestational diabetes identified in the study group.

It is interesting to note that women that reported watching TV for more than twenty hours per week were 2.3 times more likely to develop gestational diabetes than those women that reported watching less than 2 hours of TV per week.

What does this mean?

These findings serve to underscore the importance of a good physical exercise program prior to and during pregnancy to help control gestational diabetes. Since gestational diabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes, and further accidents of gestational diabetes it is important for women to be aware of these findings.

Differences Between Damask, Brocade, and Jacquard

Often times, uneducated individuals use the terms damask, brocade, and Jacquard interchangeably with one another. It can often confuse those who are unfamiliar with the world of fabrics. Jacquard is a decorative or woven pattern that is created by using a Jacquard attachment on a loom. The attachment resembles the punch card on a piano. It is purported to offer better versatility and fabric control for the operator of the loom. The Jacquard technique can be applied to a variety of fabrics, and it is commonly used on brocade and damask fabrics. It is commonly used in a variety of apparel and home goods, from tablecloths to bedding.

Brocade is defined as a lavishly decorated, shuttle woven fabric. It is primarily woven from silk; although, it is possible to find brocade constructed from a blend of silk and synthetic fibers. Often, it will be embroidered with gold or silver thread. Brocade can trace its origins back to India, where weaving is a traditional art form. It is typically woven on a loom, and it may or may not be woven using the Jacquard technique. It is also characterized by the manner in which the brocaded or broached parts of the fabric hang in loose groups or are clipped away. Although the scenes and patterns on brocade appear to have been embroidered, the scenes are actually woven into the fabric using advanced weaving techniques that involve manipulating the weft and weave of the fabric. The most common types of scenes depicted on brocade fabric are those of floral prints.

Damask, similarly to brocade, is a fabric that features woven scenes of floral patterns, intricate geometric designs, or simple scenes of domestic life. It may be woven of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or synthetic fibers. However, it is most commonly created from silk. It is primarily different from brocade in the fact that its woven fabric pattern is reversible, while that of brocade is not.
