Having Asthma Is Something to Smile About

Millions of persons have asthma and to put it bluntly there is nothing funny about having a breathing difficulty.. Yet, the science of psychoneuroimmunology has shown that smiling can reduce your symptoms.

Studies of smiling have demonstrated that smiling during the common cold season reduces the incidence of colds significantly. The smile does two things:

Smiling sends a message to your limbic (stress) system that this is no danger, no tiger. Then you avoid the negative chemicals that the stress system sends out which actively reduce your immunity.

A second effect of smiling is that it signals the pleasure brain to put out the good chemicals that raise your immune factors. The positioning of the facial muscles does this, and we see negative effects when the face is paralyzed from trauma.

Keeping a sad dour face can lower your immunity. Some actresses who have played sad depressed roles on stage for long periods of time have been forced to quit because of frequent infections. Numerous studies have proven that depression significantly lowers your immunity and your overall health.

No question that keeping a happy smiling face while having an asthmatic attack will make a lot of people wonder about your mental state. But maybe with humor you won’t get that attack.

How can you feel happy when you are struggling to breathe properly?

The key is to cultivate a happy affect. Look, you don’t need to feel funny and happy all the time. But if you laugh and feel joy 90% of the time, you will build up the good chemicals to keep you healthy.

Mr. F Amos sustained a bad back accident. Being disabled, he now had time to watch TV and his favorite was the Comedy Channel. While getting his therapy treatments he started to tell about the funny scenes he had seen. His therapists obviously enjoyed his stories; they became warmer and friendlier to him. Since they enjoyed hearing these funny stories, Mr. Amos began checking out other sources of humor, and was writing them down, and even rehearsing the funny episodes or jokes. It was obvious that the therapists enjoyed taking care of him. Did he get well faster because the therapists gave him extra attention? Or, did his laughing so much reduce the pain and speed healing? Best of all, when he came with his funny stories, his therapists would tell him tales they knew too!

You can develop a humor habit. Here are some exercises from my book that work well:

  • Practice memorizing short shopping lists using humor.
  • Rent comedies and write down funny scenes to describe to others.
  • Find comedy web sites and blogs and record the best ones to tell your friends.
  • Your public library has humor DVD, books and tapes you can borrow.
  • Once a week pretend you are a TV writer and write a funny TV show.

You see a funny episode on TV. You carry it in your mind to tell your friend next evening. Instead of stress thoughts or anxiety thoughts, your thoughts dwell on laughter.

A new therapy for asthma and allergy is to spend time BEFORE the allergy. The reason for this is that, before you had the allergy, you didn’t sneeze around dust. Now you do. Something in your chemistry changed. Maybe we can change it back? The more you visualize with all your senses, plus humor, the more your body will produce the before the allergy chemistry. You didn’t have it when you bought your first car-therefore visualize with all your senses that activity WITH Humor.

Unfortunately, in my own clinical practice, it is difficult to prove exactly how effective smiling and humor can be in asthma, since as a physician I utilize all the therapeutic tools I have available. Do my asthmatics do well because they practice humor? Or is it because I clear their sinus and postnasal drip with pulsatile irrigation? No question that clearing up a sinus condition is highly beneficial to asthmatics. Hence, it is difficult to tell whether the pulsatile irrigation contributed 40%, the drugs 30%, and the smiling 30%.

However, just as it is evident that clearing the nasal drainage is therapeutic, so is it evident that smiling and humor can help the asthma.

Welcome Dysfunctional Globalists And Dislocated Workers With No Voice In The Process

Flip the Flat World of the Globalists over and see what you get. It’s a mess. Those are not potato bugs under it. President Franklin Roosevelt said economic diseases are highly communicable. Under the Globalist Free Trader Flat World there are many of these diseases. There are many parasites living off the least of us.

In the first place, who said the U.S. had to compete in an economic global arena. The industrial revolution is not over. We still use the same products. We just exported it to other lands. What we got here is a Designer Global Economy fashioned by elite groupings, governments brokering the deals and massive trans national corporations outside of any real definition of Free Enterprise. We also have world organizations like the WTO controlling the flow of wealth and trade outside of any real democratic process and obviously without the consent of the workers involved.

As they have done for over a century, Leftists come to fill the voids when Capitalism becomes raw exploitation. The Free Enterprise system not being really “free” takes the hits. Labor comes next. Adam Smith held labor to be something sacred and the core of any society. Globalists have made labor the main commodity being traded and not products. Workers are put on a global block to compete with one another down to the lowest levels of wage slave labor and child labor. The world is still waiting for a system where the old biblical adage is practiced – Do unto others have you would have them do to you. Unfortunately, men of good will foster many things but they deal with only the effects rather than search out the causes.

You can cover a festering boil with a band aid but eventually the boil has to be lanced. For example, many people of good will want the USA to absorb the illegal Mexican immigrants. They never ask why did the massive migration begin. After all, the USA send over 4,000 factories to Mexico to help out the Mexican economy. President Bush tells us that the Mexican workers come to the USA to take jobs Americans will not take. He neglects to tells us that there are many jobs in Mexico that the Mexican workers will not take in many of these 4,000 former U.S. factories. They will not work for impoverished wages just like Americans in this country will not. Now many of these factories are moving out to places like China for the sake of even cheaper labor. All this is happening while both the USA and Mexico report low unemployment. Workers on both side of the border are suffering. Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exposed an underclass living in a Silent Depression and New Orleans is not the only city in the country like this.

In the USA, more older Americans are filing bankruptcy. In 2002, the percentage of Americans older than 45 who entered bankruptcy reached 39 percent, up from 27 percent in 1994. The steepest increase in Chapter 7 filings occurred among people older than 55. The Consumer Bankruptcy Project found that the rate at which older Americans- those 65 years of age and older- filed for bankruptcy increased 213 percent between 1991 and 2001. This reminds us of a note in a church bulletin that read – Success is reaching Social Security age before having to declared bankruptcy. Reportedly, most credit card debt is due to the rising costs of housing and health care. However, most reports leave out the fact that about 47% of small business people have maxed out their credit cards trying to keep their business afloat. Another statistic needs to be addressed too. One third of all those over 55 who lost their jobs never found another one. They were forced to drain their resources for ten years prior to Social Security kicking in. It also must be noted that those who did work while going on Social Security at age 62, had to rebate part of their payment even if they only made about $12,000 a year. At the same time, they had to contiune paying the payroll tax for others. ( People on pensions and interest income, do not have to pay the payroll tax), but those who are forced to keep working get a penalty for working and pay for others at the same time.

And let us not forget, when debtors get caught paying usury interest rates from about 18 percent to over 30 percent interest, there is usually no way to make a come back from the deep hole of debts and everyone knows this including the creditors and the government. Government says it is nothing personal. It is only business.

The bankruptcy rate increased 213 percent between 1991 and 200l for those 65 years of age and older. This should be something personal for all of society.

The new bankruptcy laws actually stop many from declaring bankruptcy. The cost of filing bankruptcy has risen due to all the rules. Before declaring bankruptcy, the party or parties have to take a pre filing course and then a post filing course. This also cost money. The Legal Aid Society will not take any cases that are Judgement Proof – meaning there is nothing left to go after. Most likely in the near future we will get a report on how many people had no reason to declare bankruptcy except due to all the pressure of debt collection agents.

This is only one of the untold stories behind the Dysfunctional Globalists and  Dislocated  Workers. For further information, see Flip the Flat World over and see what you get at http://tapsearch.com/flatworld/

It provides a long list of more untold stories behind the betrayal of workers. No matter what, the Dysfunctional Globalists keep calling for more and more Free Trade even though there is a long history of failures. Many people of good will promote the Globalist Flat World of Free Traders like Thomas Friedman of the New York Times and the Clintons from the Land of “is”.

Top 3 Most Common Elbow Injuries

Our elbow is basically a joint in which the humerus bone, ulna bone and the radius bone is connected together to form a joint that functions like a hinge. The radius bone and the ulna bone also enable the elbow to rotate around the forearm. The main function of the elbow is to move forward and back as well as rotate around. Tendons are connected to the elbow and they can be easily injured either due to a sudden impact or due to ageing. The elbow is one of the most easily injured parts of the body as it is like a ball and socket joint in which the ball can easily slip out of the socket. Let’s look at some of the common elbow injuries.

Elbow  dislocation  is one of the few serious elbow injuries that can be sustained.  Dislocation  is often caused by trauma or injury such as a sudden impact from full contact sports such as rugby or high falls from activities such as rock climbing. The patient will suffer an immediate loss of motion in the elbow and severe pain. Depending on the severity, the elbow may even look like it is deformed due to the bones sticking out. The bones will need to be rejoined back in the shortest possible time. Most people will try to push back the bone but this is a huge mistake as it should only be performed by highly trained medical personnel under sedation to prevent further damages to the surrounding tendons.

Fracture is another serious elbow injury and the symptoms are similar to a  dislocation . It is also caused by sudden impact or fall from great heights and landing on a hand, causing the elbow to fracture. Patients will suffer a loss in range of motion but not as much as a  dislocation . In more severe cases, patients may even experience numbness and this can indicate possible nerve damages. Since fractures are cracks in the bone, patients can experience a loss in blood circulation and this can be easily diagnosed by a lower temperature in the injured area or a weakened pulse.

Olecranon Bursitis

Patients who are suffering from Olecranon Bursitis will experience swelling at the elbow and will feel pain with every movement. Olecranon Bursitis is due to the inflammation of the bursa and this is often caused by overuse of the elbow or infection. This is usually due to prolonged periods of leaning on the elbow with the whole body weight leaning on it.

Elbow injuries are inevitable at some point in time of your life. However, the elbow is a part of our body which is heavily used daily and if we fail to take good care of it, it will cause much inconvenience to our daily lives.

What Is Nasal Fracture Surgery?

It’s no surprise that the nose is the most common broken bone on the face. It’s just jutting out there waiting to be broken, and typically, blunt force trauma is the culprit, i.e. a fist fight or automobile accident. Unfortunately, though, this common occurrence is very unpleasant and painful, and in some cases, may require cosmetic surgery to repair.

Depending on the severity of the  fracture , the nose should be repaired as soon as possible. In fact, if restoration occurs too late after the break, the nose can begin to “set” itself and long-term cosmetic issues, like crookedness, and functionality problems, like trouble breathing, can persist. Typically, for severe nose  fractures , doctors recommend that the nose be reset as soon as possible.

So what happens if the nose isn’t reset soon enough following a  fracture ? Well, typically, nasal surgery is the only option.

Nasal  fracture  surgery – or a revision rhinoplasty – repairs damage caused following a broken nose. And the surgery is typically reversed for repairing cosmetic and functionality issues that occur long after the initial  fracture . As the nose is so prone to breaks, this is one of the most common types of facial plastic surgery.

When Should You Consider Nasal  Fracture  Surgery?

In general, the  fractured  nose can be repaired surgically or non-surgically, and the type of procedure depends on the severity of the  fracture  and the time that has passed since the injury.

Typically, less severe  fractures  can be repaired non-surgically. Following the initial  fracture , a doctor can “set” the nose by moving the broken nasal bones back into place. Once re positioned, the bones and cartilage can bond, which is similar to the natural process the body takes to repair a broken bone in the arm or leg. Yet, this must be completed fairly quickly following the injury, typically within 3 hours to a week. If the nose isn’t set soon enough, it can begin to repair itself in an abnormal position.

Nasal  fracture  surgery is generally reserved to repair extensive nasal  fractures  and to reverse lingering cosmetic and functional issues caused by a previous nasal  fracture .

Benefits of Nasal  Fracture  Surgery

For people who have suffered a broken nose, the benefits of a revision rhinoplasty are clear. These surgeries can help:

Restore the nose’s original size, shape and angle

Repair and improve breathing

Reduce snoring

And prevent problems caused a  fracture

A broken nose is unpleasant and painful, but without quick repair, the unpleasantness can last a lifetime. People who have suffered a broken nose and experienced difficulty breathing, excessive snoring or a change in appearance should contact a certified facial plastic surgeon to weigh the options.

Choosing a qualified plastic surgeon who has substantial experience in revision rhinoplasty is critical for the best results.

Zinc and Bone Health

Zinc can do more to prevent brittle bones than any other nutrient. Collagen tissue is necessary for the deposition of calcium phosphate to form bone. That is, collagen tissue provides the infrastructure for the bone to be formed. It is into this structure that calcium is deposited to form the bone. The presence of collagen is essential for bone strength and density. Without it all the calcium in your diet has nowhere to go and zinc is an essential part of collagen formation.

Collagen holds it all together

Collagen is the most widespread tissue in the body. It forms the background of all your tissues of all your organs, making them firm and resilient. When the skin starts to wrinkle and loose elasticity you can be sure that your collagen cells are not as active as they used to be.

Each strand of collagen is made up of amino acids and it takes many of these amino acids to make up one strand. The strength of collagen tissue is increased as some of the molecules are strengthened by a biochemical process initiated by vitamin C. This process helps to stabilize the whole collagen structure. If the process does not occur the bones soften. Three single strands of collagen are, initially, twisted around one another, forming a triplet. Three of these triplets are then twisted around each other forming a super cable. Each strand is also bonded to adjacent strands by cross-linking. It is into this collagen structure that calcium phosphate is deposited to form your bones. Bone therefore consists of collagen (an organic protein – live material) and calcium phosphate (an inorganic material).

Collagen ages slowly to be replaced by new collagen tissue. To ensure that this process continues it is important to see that your intake of protein and nutrients are adequate. One of the important nutrients is zinc.

Zinc a critical nutrient

Adequate levels of zinc are necessary to form collagen tissue, unite   bone   fractures , heal wounds and prevent osteoporosis. For the formation of collagen tissue zinc is essential, other nutrients are also necessary, but zinc is the most important.

It is recommended that you have 12 to 15 mg of zinc a day and that this level be increased during pregnancy.

Food sources of zinc include: meat, chicken, beans, nuts and oysters.

Dietary phytates, which are found in wholegrain cereals and unleavened bread may significantly decrease the absorption of zinc. There is also the possibility that increasing your calcium level inappropriately can interfere with zinc absorption.

Zinc can be taken as a supplement and should be taken as a salt, such as, zinc sulphate, combined with vitamin C. Zinc is best absorbed after eating a protein meal – preferably not breakfast which could contain foods high in dietary phytates.

Zinc, pregnancy and the first stage of osteoporosis

Johns Hospital Medical School estimates that 85 percent of pregnant women throughout the developed world have an intake of zinc that is insufficient for the pregnancy. During pregnancy zinc requirements increase by 50% during the last 15 to 10 weeks. If the mother does not consume sufficient zinc, then zinc in her muscles and bones will be given to the fetus, thus starting the first stage of osteoporosis. (NOTE: the British Medical Association advises that zinc sulphate be avoided or used with caution during pregnancy as safety is not established and it crosses the placenta.)

Calcium and osteoporosis

The reason for the emphasis on the calcium content of bones to prevent osteoporosis, and for the neglect of zinc as the critical nutrient, is that when X-rayed, zinc and collagen are invisible. When osteoporotic bone is X-rayed and compared to normal bone, it appears transparent because you are unable to see the normal amounts of calcium. Medical Practitioners often recommend increased calcium consumption but then neglect to recommend a zinc supplement to help replace the collagen. Unfortunately, without the collagen and zinc the calcium has nowhere to go, which will see the development of the osteoporosis to continue.

 Fractures  and zinc

There are two stages to the healing of bone:

Initially, after the  fracture , an extensive blood clot forms around the ends of the  fractured   bone . Collagen forming cells invade the blood clot producing a specialized form of collagen which wraps itself around the  fracture . Slowly, the bone forming cells move into the collagen tissue, now called a callus. These cells lay down the calcium, giving the bone its strength again.

If the patient is given zinc supplements immediately after the  fracture  occurs, a large amount of collagen tissue is formed quickly, as the enzymes responsible for laying down the  bone  callus are activated by zinc. Zinc is not only responsible for rapidly increasing the amount of collagen tissue around the  fracture , it is also responsible for activating the  bone  cells which deposit the calcium into the collagen tissue.

Exercise and zinc

It is paradoxical that physical exercise which is recommended for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis can also increase it if the person exercising has insufficient nutrients – in particular zinc. People who exercise excessively lose a significant amount of zinc in sweat. The loss of zinc in sweat per hour can exceed by 50% the excretion of zinc in urine in 24 hours.

In America this condition is labelled ‘brittle bones, but good body’. In women the condition is also accompanied by amenorrhea (cessation of menstruation) as a zinc deficiency can decrease ovarian activity.

In the lead up to menopause the formation of collagen tends to slow down as the activity of the hormones decreases. Beyond menopause a zinc deficiency can be more pronounced with the accelerating loss of collagen and calcium. If the loss of collagen is due to the lack of zinc then calcium excretion can increase.

One of the effects of the reduced estrogen production is an increased excretion of hydroxyproline, an amino acid critical in stabilizing collagen structure. Calcium will do nothing to prevent this occurring. It is therefore important to guard against the rundown of your collagen tissue at menopause. This is achieved by maintaining an adequate intake of nutrients, including zinc.

Zinc is an important (and often underestimated) nutrient for the prevention of osteoporosis. Zinc is often deficient in the diet and in times of added need such as during pregnancy or menopause or when doing a lot of exercising the zinc levels in the body can run low.

Cerebral Palsy Treatment

Families that have children with cerebral palsy know that there is no cure for it.  The only thing that families can do is get the best treatment for their child.  What type of treatments considered for a child depends on what type of cerebral palsy they have.  The medical staff will determine what type they have by the characteristics the patient has.Determining which type of treatments is given to a patient is done through observing the patient and giving them some tests.  In this process a team of professionals such as therapists, psychologists and pediatricians will determine, based on the results of the patient, which treatments suit them.

Types of treatments:

Physical therapy – This method of therapy helps stretch the muscles of a patient with cerebral palsy.  This can include exercising the muscles, massaging the muscles and possibly using heat.  The purpose of this is to help with motor control.

Speech therapy – It is sometimes difficult for patients with cerebral palsy to communicate.  With speech therapy, the treatments allow them to communicate with other means.

Occupational therapy – This treatment is to assist patients with this in their everyday living.  This includes household duties and work duties.

Medication – There are medications for cerebral palsy patients that will help relax their muscles.  Patients deal with muscle spasms and medications such as Botox will help those problems.

Surgery – There are times when therapies just don’t help.  In these situations surgery may be an option for the patient.  Surgeries can help decrease spasticity and improve muscle tone.

Hearing aids, eyeglasses – It is common of cerebral palsy patients to have hearing or vision problems.  These treatments will help improve the impairments of the child.

Assistive technologies – Cerebral palsy patients usually will require some type of assistive technologies such as wheelchairs to help them with everyday jobs that they may not otherwise be able to do so.

Other Cerebral Palsy treatments – Sometimes the common treatments are just not enough for a patient with it.  If this is the case, other treatments may be applied such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

Clinical trials – The purpose of these trials are to try to develop new treatments for cerebral palsy patients.

The Cost of Cerebral Palsy Treatment

Cerebral palsy affects many children and there is no cure for it, there are only treatments to help a patient cope with their disability.  Children go through different therapies that suit their needs but the financial costs are overwhelming usually exceeding $500,000.  Insurance doesn’t always cover all of the costs, and the families can get stressed with all the costs.  Even those who do not have insurance, the financial load are overwhelming.

There are cases where medical malpractice may have contributed to a child’s condition.  Families in this situation often can receive compensation to help cover treatment costs and other expenses. If your child’s cerebral palsy could have been prevented be sure to contact a cerebral palsy lawyer to discuss your options.

Shingles Information

Shingles is a disease that can be a lot more serious and painful that some people realize. Shingles comes from the same virus that causes chickenpox so if you have had chickenpox you could also have shingles. Chances are that you are one of the 9 out of 10 people in the united states that have had chickenpox which means you already have the virus for shingle in your body. The virus can remains inactive in the body for many years and sometimes your whole life. If the virus does become active it is usually later in life that this happens.

Herpes zoster is the more formal name for shingles. It is characterized by a painful rash that usually starts on one side of the body. After you have had chickenpox the virus remains inactive in your nervous system but can reactivate itself at any time. This rash that develops is usually later in life and can be extremely painful.

Estimates for shingles in the United Sates are around 1 million new cases each year. Almost half of these cases are found in adults age 60 or older. There is really no way to tell when shingles are going to develop. They can come at any time and without any warning. 1 out of 2 people living to age 85 will have shingles at some time in their life. Nearly all adults (90%) are at risk of developing shingles.

Helpful information about signs associated with shingles:

Pre rash, you will likely feel a burning, itching, or tingling sensation in the area where the sores/rash will form. A few days after these initial symptoms the rash will start which usually remains on one side of your body. The shingles rash usually lasts around 30 days. There is quite a bit of pain associated with the rash but it typically lessens as the rash heals. Some people experience post herpetic   neuralgia , or PHN. This may lead to long term pain which can last for months or even years.

One complication that occurs with a hand full of people each year is shingles and pregnancy. This is an issue because there are increased stress levels associated with the pain and discomfort caused by shingles. In addition to this most doctors will not prescribe pain killers to help reduce the pain for fear of causing additional problems with the baby. There are a few home remedies that people have tried as well as one that seems to be getting a little more attention recently called VyGone.

VyGone is a device that helps to inhibit the virus without causing damage to the unborn baby. The device is noninvasive and should work quite well with shingles and pregnancy, http://www.shinglesandpregnancy.com.

Good luck to everyone out there with shingles and please consult with your health professional before acting on any information in this article.

Natural Home Remedies for Sore Throat – Relieve Pain Naturally

Sore throat is one of the possible outcomes of common cold and flu. The pharynx or the back part of the throat becomes inflamed due to any viral or bacterial infection. The streptococcus bacteria are generally responsible for the Strep throat condition. Children are the worst sufferers of sore throat as they are more vulnerable to viral infections with the teenagers in the following. Adults also experience this problem but in lesser number.

Common symptoms of sore throat can be listed as –

1. Severe pain in the throat followed by frequent coughing.
2. Inability to swallow food.
3. Swollen lymph glands.
4. Blocked nasal passages.
5. Fever followed with chills.

The underlying causes behind sore throat are –

1. Viral and bacterial infection as in common cold.
2. Tonsillitis, influenza, sinusitis, measles, diphtheria, mumps etc. diseases.
3. Smoking
4. Leukemia in rare cases.

Home Remedies

Sore throat, in most of the cases does not pose any serious ailments and the home remedies are the best methods to treat this condition. Although, conventional antibiotics are usually administered in acute throat pain conditions, still the natural modes of treatment always come as the first choice.

1. Gargling is considered as the best remedy for sore throat. Gargling of the throat with lukewarm water adding 2 tablespoons of common salt reduces the pain quickly. But this should be carried 4-5 times a day.

2. Sipping a mixture of cinnamon powder, pepper powder along with a teaspoonful of honey in a glass of lukewarm water is very effective in reducing the throat pain.

3. Ginger is widely used in treating the soreness of the throat. Ginger, taken as ginger tea or ginger juice taken with little honey is equally effective in this treatment.

4. Gargling with a decoction of fenugreek seeds also produces beneficial results.

5. Decoction of henna leaves is also effective in reducing the soreness of the throat.

6. External application of the crushed betel leaves on the throat provides relief from the pain. In severe cases crushed berry plant also produces the desired effect.

7. Extract from the bark of mango tree is highly effective in treating sore throat. A teaspoonful of the extract is added to a glass of lukewarm water and used for gargling.

8. Use of Basil leaves is quite popular in treating various throat problems. A decoction can be prepared by boiling 10-15 basil leaves in a glass of water. To avail best results this decoction should be taken several times a day in small sips. Few drops of honey can be added to sweeten the drink.

Throat Stones – What Exactly Are They?

Perhaps you have heard of the term throat stones and are confused by what they are. This particular term is quite misleading since these are not stones in any way. Throat stones are more commonly referred to as tonsil stones and its medical term tonsilloliths.

Tonsilloliths are referred to as stones because of their irregular white or yellow appearance. Although the name would imply that they are hard or rough in texture this is quite the opposite. Tonsilloliths are very soft and easily disintegrate when they are squeezed.

Tonsilloliths are found at the back of the throat and on the tonsils. Throat stones are not dangerous but can be very unpleasant. They are very often the cause of bad breath and are easy to manage. Anyone who has had this condition has experienced the very uncomfortable and foul taste they leave in the mouth.

Throat stones form when trapped debris of dead cells and mucus becomes calcified. This tends to occur most often in people who suffer from chronic inflammation in their tonsils or recurring tonsillitis. Tonsilloliths are very likely caused by a combination of dead white blood cells, overactive salivary glands, oral bacteria, mucous secretions, including postnasal drip and residue from food.

The result of all the secretions, mucous and bacteria leads to the development of what look like white or yellow balls in the tonsils. As you can see having this condition should NOT be a cause for alarm. It is common for people to become afraid that this is a sign of a severe illness such as cancer or a severe infection.

This is a very common problem that affects people of all ages so remember that you are NOT ALONE. There are several ways to prevent and manage this problem. If you aren’t sure whether you have this problem simply check with your doctor or dentist.

Anal Yeast Infection is a Menace

Anal yeast infection is quite a possibility. The way this infection affects the mouth and vagina, it can also attack the rectum of a person. The reason is obvious that our digestive system starts from our mouth and ends in the rectum.

Candida Albicans is the same bacterium that causes yeast infection in other parts of the body. This bacterium is generally present in our body and is harmless. However due to a sudden a growth due to various reasons it causes an infection. The main reason behind this growth is metabolic disorder.

The symptoms of this menace are same as usual. Burning, irritation and soreness of the affected are the common symptoms and this anal yeast infection is no exception to this. Although it is recommended that you go and visit a doctor as soon as you get to understand it. That might not be financially available to you today.

Yet some people are shy and get embarrassed to visit a doctor and discuss about this. For them it is advisable to fall back on grandma’s home remedies. For example you can use boric acid on the affected areas by making a paste with elm powder and water. Just remember not to apply it on a cut or an open wound. Keep it away from pregnant women. Its side effects include burning and itchiness in addition.

Anal yeast and yeast type infections are a menace and can be treated by the help of tea tree oil. It can be applied on the affected area and it can be used to protect against anal yeast spores that are part of the infection. Tea tree is an antibacterial which is very helpful in curing this menace.

You can also use yoghurt for anal yeast infection. You must now recall that your grandma used to say that yoghurt is the best natural medicine. It has a cooling effect on the burning sensation of the infection like aloe vera. Aloe vera on the other hand can be kept in the refrigerator in a cotton pads or tissues and can be dabbed on the infected region. These home remedies come in handy as they are easily available and less expensive.

Anal yeast infection is extremely disturbing and painful. You can try a few of these home remedies at your convenience. But remember one thing for sure even after using these remedies if the infection still persists then go ahead and visit a doctor immediately without further delay.

Preventing Diabetes – 8 Sure Tips

Preventing diabetes is in your control.

If you have diabetes, you go to the doctor. Your doctor will tell you- Diabetes can’t be cured completely, it can only be controlled. He will suggest change in food habits and life style along with medication to control the problem.

If you are a non-diabetic person and ask for suggestions so that you won’t get diabetes in future, no doctor will give any.

Please don’t do this!

Some one wondered- if insulin intake can control diabetes, what happens if a non-diabetic person takes small doses of insulin? Will it prevent occurrence of diabetes? Please don’t do that. Your blood sugar levels will drop and the consequences can be serious.

Let us discuss about preventing diabetes.

Can diabetes be prevented?

Yes. If you have the determination, patience and if you can sacrifice a few small enjoyments, you can prevent it. These small enjoyments are nothing compared to the suffering a diabetic person undergoes. Your diet and lifestyle will be curtailed, anyway, once you got diabetes. So, why do you wait for the problem to come? Take care before it touches you.

Before going into the details, let us see a few facts.

India is the diabetes capital of the world. Andhra Pradesh is the diabetes capital of India. The reason?

Not very difficult to find. Andhra Pradesh is called the ‘Rice bowl of India.’ Rice is their main dish. Many eat plenty of rice- just rice- with practically no vegetable intake.

The present generation prefers polished white rice. The more you polish, the more white it becomes. People love rice- beautiful white rice. The whiter, the better. What does this white rice contain? Just carbohydrates.

All the protein, fat, fibre and other nutrients are removed during polish. What happens when we eat it? In the absence of fibre and all other nutrients, carbohydrates get digested very fast and get converted into glucose. It is absorbed by the blood fast and the sugar level in the blood goes high.

Pancreas has to work more and fast to produce enough insulin to control the blood sugar level. This repeated stress over many years damages the pancreas. Insulin produced by damaged pancreas is either ineffective or insufficient and you join the diabetic world.

Once you get diabetes, your body tries to remove sugar from the blood through urine and sweat. The available water in the body is used for this purpose. That’s why diabetic people get thirsty.

What about your lifestyle?

We consume a good amount of junk food that is filled with empty calories and no food value. The present day life style has negligible physical activity to burn calories to maintain body glucose.

There seems to be around 30000 diseases known to man so far. Experts say that eating too much salt and oil is the culprit for most of the diseases. Doctors suggest to reduce salt and oil intake to patients suffering from diabetes as well as major disease related to heart, kidneys, liver etc.

Why? Because, they know people won’t like to implement total elimination of salt from their diet. Doctor’s themselves are not able to implement salt free diet.

And the first and most important point to keep in mind to be away from any disease is- keep your body clean internally.

The above discussion gives you 8 wonderful sure tips that can help you in preventing diabetes:

  1. Do not eat stuff made of polished white rice and polished flours. They are poison – use unpolished rice, flour made of whole grains.
  2. Remove salt, oil, sugar and spices from your diet – you may enjoy them occasionally once in a week. Use honey in place of sugar.
  3. Eat stuff that keeps your pancreas in good health – vegetable juice, sprouted seeds, raw vegetables. Let 50 to 60% of your diet be raw vegetables.
  4. Avoid junk food – cakes, biscuits, chocolates, ice creams, pizzas, packaged foods and drinks, soft drinks, alcohol…
  5. Drink plenty of water – 4 to 4.5 lt. for adults, 3 to 3.5 lt. for elders of age 60 years and above.
  6. Avoid non-vegetarian food – the human body is not built for it. The absence of fibre content makes you constipated.
  7. Keep your body internally clean – keep your colon clean. regular evacuation twice a day and weekly colon cleansing with plain water.
  8. Keep yourself physically active – daily yoga, meditation and exercise.

Follow these 8 Tips and you can be sure of preventing diabetes and be away from other health problems as well.

I wish you, your family and friends all the success in preventing diabetes.

Obesity and Its Problems

Obesity  is the ailment of the modern life. It is one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. It is widely spread in the modern Western world, as well as in many parts of Africa. And perceived as a symbol of wealth and fertility.

It increases the risk of many physical and mental conditions, commonly shown as a metabolic dysfunction; a combination of medical disorders which includes: diabetes mellitus type 2, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and high triglyceride levels. An increase in fat mass increases the risk of inflicting osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In fact an increase in body fat alters the body’s response to insulin, potentially leading to insulin resistance and also creates a pro-inflammatory state.

Several syndromes, such as Prader-Willi syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, Cohen syndrome, and MOMO syndrome are attributed to some extent to  obesity .

For women, the average increase is 335-1,887 calories per day, while for men the average increase is 168-2,618 calories per day. Most of these extra calories come from an increase in carbohydrate consumption rather than fat consumption… The primary source of these extra carbohydrates is sweetened beverages, which now account for almost 25 percent of daily calories in young adults in Consumption of sweetened drinks is indeed contributing to the rise in the rates of  obesity .

The overwhelming advance in agricultural technology in Europe has led to lower food prices.

Also, the governments’ subsidies of agricultural crops e.g. corn, soy, wheat, and rice in the United States. Farm bill, as well as in Europe, have made the main sources of processed food cheap compared to fruits and vegetables. These crops are carbohydrates-rich, which when digested inevitably increases the energy bodily in-put, and hence lead to fat storage.

A cozy lifestyle plays a significant role in  obesity  development, especially less physically less physical or muscular work. Currently at least 60% of the world’s population gets insufficient exercise, This is primarily due to increasing use of mechanized transportation and less manual work at home, In children there appears to be declines in levels of physical activity due to less walking and physical education. In spite of the fact that many schools have assigned strategies for a one-day physical training exercise; this appears to be not sufficient for sustaining a regular physical healthy body. In both children and adults there is an association between television viewing time and the risk of  obesity  it is found that out of 63 of 73 studies (86%) showed an increased rate of childhood  obesity  with increased media exposure? Muscles consume energy derived from both fat and glycogen. Due to the large size of leg muscles, walking, running, and cycling are the most effective means of exercise to reduce body fat. In fact a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 5 days a week is necessary.

The social life and type incurred induce the final format of the main body stature in society. However in developed countries, the wealthy are able to afford more nutritious food, they are under greater social pressure to remain slim, and have more opportunities along with greater expectations for physical fitness, though this is not the common norm. On the other hand, in under developed countries the ability to afford food, high energy expenditure with physical labor contributes to the observed patterns, i.e. slimmer body stature generally. Though again certain cultural values prefer fat or obese statures.

Diets and diet foods are a necessarily to reduce the  obesity  factor. The diets that promote weight loss are generally of low-fat, low-carbohydrate, low-calorie, and very low calorie However; it was found that there is no difference between three types of diet with a 2-4 kilogram (4.4-8.8 lb) weight loss in all studies. The low calorie type diets are not recommended for general use as they are associated with adverse side effects such as loss of lean muscle mass, increased risks of gout, and electrolyte imbalances.

Lupus Rash as a Common Sign of Autoimmune Disease

Lupus generates a wide range of symptoms and people with the disease experience them at different intensities. Lupus involves abnormal activity of the immune system. The dysfunctional immune system produces antibodies that turn against healthy body cells and tissues (antinuclear antibodies). Some antibodies produced by the dysfunctional immune system can even alter the body’s genetic material (anti-DNA antibodies). The abnormal activity of the immune system can lead to the occurrence of various internal disorders (heart disease, pulmonary disease, kidney disease), disorders of the musculoskeletal system (arthritis, osteoporosis), disorders of the nervous system (brain disease) and skin diseases (lupus rash, erythematous lesions).

In spite of the fact that patients with the autoimmune disease generally have different symptoms, rash is a common sign of lupus. Lupus rash is characteristic to both systemic and discoid forms of the disease and it is usually the first symptom to appear. Lupus is a chronic disease and its generated symptoms reoccur on a regular time basis. Although other symptoms may come and go, lupus rash is very persistent and difficult to overcome.

Lupus rash commonly occurs on the body regions that are exposed to sunlight: scalp, face, neck and shoulders. However, the rash can also occur in other areas of the body (chest, back, palms and feet), in many cases accompanied by skin lesions. When it occurs on the face, lupus rash has a reddish, burn-like aspect. Sometimes the rash can even affect the moist tissues around the mouth and the nose. In the systemic form of the disease, lupus rash doesn’t generally involve skin scarring and it can ameliorate with medical treatment. Lupus rash tends to aggravate if the affected skin is exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

In the discoid form of lupus, the rash occurs in different regions of the body and it affects larger patches of skin. Discoid lupus rash involves hyperpigmentation of the skin, exfoliation and the formation of crust. The skin lesions characteristic to discoid lupus erythematosus can affect deeper layers of skin and they usually heal with scarring. When it occurs on the scalp, discoid lupus rash can involve temporary or permanent hair loss (alopecia). If the rash is accompanied by intense scaling, papules and crust, the skin may heal with pronounced scarring.

Subacute cutaneous lupus rash generally occurs in the body areas that are exposed to the sun. The rash increases in size and it forms circular, scaly patches. This type of lupus rash doesn’t involve scarring, but it usually heals with hypo-pigmentation of the skin. Subacute cutaneous lupus rash can occur in both systemic and discoid forms of the disease and it generally fades in the periods of remission. Although it can’t be completely overcome, this symptom can also be controlled through the means of medical treatments. When you have lupus rash, it is very important to avoid exposing the affected skin to sunlight. Also, you should avoid exposing the skin to irritants and chemicals, as they can seriously aggravate the rash.

What Are The Scalp Psoriasis Signs and Symptoms?

While psoriasis affects up to 3% of the population, of this percentage of psoriasis sufferers, up to 50% of them suffer from scalp psoriasis making it one of the most common and persistent types of psoriasis. It can also be one of the most difficult to treat while at the same time robbing a sufferer of their self esteem because the signs and symptoms are sometimes clearly visible to other people.

Signs and Symptoms of Scalp Psoriasis

Although the exact cause of psoriasis remains a mystery, many researchers believe that it mainly comes about through an abnormality in the immune system that causes skin to regenerate at an accelerated rate leading to skin cells piling on top of each other is evidenced by raised, red, sometimes itchy, thick areas of the skin covered with silvery/white scales. It can also affect other areas such as the nails and joints (psoriatic arthritis). Why this abnormality in the immune system occurs is unknown. Genes or the environment may be to blame but no one knows for certain.

Scalp psoriasis is evidenced by silvery/white scales on the scalp that may be thick and form thick crusts when the scales are packed tightly together which can be very itchy. Attempting to treat these scales like dandruff by picking and scratching can only make the condition worse.

The severity of this type of psoriasis can vary between mild cases that are usually not very noticeable to very severe cases when the scales can drop onto the shoulders and collar and look like a bad case of dandruff which can be quite embarrassing for the sufferer in addition to being very itchy.

A small area of the scalp can be affected or it can cover the entire scalp in severe cases of scalp psoriasis. Flare-ups usually appear behind the ears and along the hairline and may then spread over greater areas of the scalp. This condition can also affect the ear canal when enough scales spread to this area and can impact hearing.

Severe cases of scalp psoriasis may affect the hair roots leading to hair loss but most cases do not affect the hair roots. If a sufferer experiences hair loss associated with scalp psoriasis, the hair can grow back once the condition is effectively managed.

Treatment For Scalp Psoriasis

Since there isn’t a known cure for psoriasis, treating scalp psoriasis to help minimize flare-ups can be quite a challenge as what can work for one sufferer may not necessarily work for another and will usually involve a lot of trial and error. Patience and perseverance is required in order to find the treatment therapy that will work for you.

Some of the conventional treatment therapies for scalp psoriasis include the use of medicated shampoos that contain salicylic acid, tar, selenium sulfide, steroids, etc. Various scalp solutions containing steroids can also be prescribed in the form of gels, foams, lotions, etc. Other medications that may be prescribed include Anthralin, Topical Vitamin D analogues, etc, to help to reduce cell turnover leading to the silvery/white scales. There are also many effective natural remedies but most of these will involve a lot of trial and error.
